This is another 5 star review, but I wish I could give 10 stars! Tom and D & S Automotive are simply the best. As mechanics and human beings. D & S have skillful mechanics and charge reasonable prices. I brought my Subaru in with a leak near the oil pan, and I thought the worst, Tom would find other damages and the cost would be $300-$400, it was way less, ~$158. The leak was only damage he found. He kept the car an extra day to test that the repair fixed the leak, putting extra time in and not charging. Leak fixed. Upon picking up my car I relieved the cost was reasonable, and I admitted to being nervous about a large bill because I just lost my job. He felt bad about that, and this is where Tom is a great human being: he didn't charge me! He said, "Since you lost your job, we're square." Unbelievable! I didn't expect sure an awesome gesture! Tom is one of the most honest and trustworthy mechanics I've ever dealt with. He genuinely treats your car like his own and always thinks about what he would do if he were in your position. The first time I visited him, I thought I had a brake issue. He checked it and told me nothing was urgent and that I could easily drive another 5,000 miles before replacing the brakes. He didn't even charge me and told me to come back when the work was actually needed. That level of honesty is rare. More recently, I had a fuel pump issue, and Tom squeezed me into his busy schedule, prioritized my repair, and gave me a great price without compromising on quality. His work is top-notch and his prices are very fair. With cars, you need someone you can truly trust, and Tom is that person for me. My Nissan Altima started to have issues, and I found D&S on Yelp. I really appreciate Tom's honesty- He said I needed quite a bit of work done suspension related, but said he could fix the misfire for $360 to put me back on the road, or he could do all of the necessary work for around 3k. I have the money so I opted to do all of the work instead of just buying a new car. Most places will say you NEED all of the work done rather than presenting an option as Tom did. Here's my full thorough experience. My AC on my Nissan Altima has been for a while. I first took my Altima to a pepboys to check out the Altima to which they said they would've had to take out and replace my compressor and condenser which would've run me about $2k+. I decided to get a second opinion through D&S automotive. I took my car in on a Friday to check it out. Within an hour of dropping it off. I got a call from Tom saying that my system was leaking bad and that he would've had to replace the compressor and condenser so I gave him the green light. He told me over the phone that it was $730 to which surprised me but later on with a different phone call was actually a mistake and told me it would've costed me $2k~ to which I wasn't really surprised knowing how much pepboys charged for the same service. Tom apologized profusely and was professional about it. I dropped off the car on Friday and they didn't finish until Tuesday afternoon. They're closed on Saturday and Sunday so that explains the longer wait. On Tuesday afternoon, I got a text from Tom Saying that my car would've been at 3:30pm. He also said that the cost was lower than the original $2k~ he quoted which was $1783.34 to be exact which was a plus! Upon receiving my car, my car AC was blowing cold air which was much needed in this July heat wave! I will do a follow up review on my AC in about 10k miles. I recommend Tom to anyone and will for sure bring my car in for any future repairs. read more

Like everyone else here, I had an extremely positive experience with D&S Automotive, in particular Tom. Long story short, I pulled off a dirt parking lot in Half Moon Bay and on my way home, I could hear some unpleasant noises coming from the left front tire at low speeds. Concerned that the rotor or my breaks were damaged, I decided to find an auto repair shop to look into it the next day. Tom looked into it and couldn't find anything wrong (thank god) and didn't charge for the diagnostic. I insisted on paying him for his time but he respectfully declined. Weeks after my car's warranty expired from CarMax, it started fighting to accelerate and even idle correctly. Tom happily talked it through with me over the phone, but of course found out the real suspect for my car's failure after looking at it. He was SO kind and personable, proved his knowledge, and earned a returning customer in me. I don't care what anyone says, it can be scary for a female to enter into mechanic spaces.
