We decided to obtain a second quote and Daniel from Hamstra spent 3 hours checking the systems and concluded it was in good working condition. My experience was far different from most of the reviews. I explained that the system on my rental…read moreproperty was running, but not cooling to the desired setpoint. I also told the dispatcher that I had a two story house with a roof unit, so the tech would need an extension ladder. They sent their most inexperienced tech to troubleshoot my AC. When I arrived at my rental propery, I saw an extension ladder against the side of my house which was far too short to safely reach my roof. I climbed up the ladder, a bit unsure about its stability, and called out to the tech to tell them I was moving their ladder to a more accessible area for the roof. The tech had replaced the condensor fan contactor, telling me it was bad. I commented that the fan was previously running and that the contactor should be good. The tech said that the contacts were burned. Regardless, the contactor worked, and the burn marks are the result of 20 years of service, not a defective part. Former electrician speaking here. The next day, the unit still wasn't cooling so the tech returned. He removed the evaporator cover panel and we both saw the evaporator coil was a solid block of ice and needed to thaw out. I reiterated that the contactor wasn't the issue. The tech said he wanted to leave the part in since the other contactor was so old and would probably fail soon. I told the tech I didn't want to pay $275 for a $15 part, but that I would settle this with the office. We had to wait another day for the coil to thaw. Meanwhile, my tenants are uncomfortable with the higher inside temperature of the house. Fortunately, another tech was assigned to address my AC issue. I requested that the refrigerant level be addressed. The tech confirmed that my system was indeed low. I explained the issue with the unnecessary contactor and the tech told me he would remove that from my bill. In the end, the bill was a wash because the cost of the refrigerant was exactly the same price as the contactor. How convenient. In the end, three days were wasted and nearly $400 spent to get the system running again. I just can't help but think that had an experienced tech diagnosed the issue first, it could have been taken care of for less money and a lot less time and inconvenience. I can't afford to take those chances again so will not be using or endorsing Samson and Sons.

We had a routine, pre-season inspection of our home heating by a "big box" provider. The…read morerepresentative came to the house to inspect and declared our system was leaking carbon monoxide, resulting in him shutting down and locking out the system and arranging a a follow-on visit to propose replacement HVAC systems for our home. Suspicious of this result, we found two highly-rated independent HVAC shops - including ComfortX - to perform their own inspections, neither of which corroborated the CO reading. Likewise for the gas company, who came out and also confirmed no leak. So, the CO panic was wrong, whether intentional or not. Jacob from ComfortX was fantastic! He showed how the CO sensors may provide a false positive reading if not operated correctly. He then showed how to test correctly and that the test confirmed no CO. Separately, he DID identify a problem in the controller board that resulted in intermittent heating, a symptom we had experienced the last few years. He was able to isolate the problem to and perform a repair, and got everything fully functioning by the end of the same day. So, rather than us being shut down and waiting for a quote to replace two HVAC systems, instead, thanks to Jacob and ComfortX, we have two fully inspected and functioning systems and a comfortable home, all for a very reasonable inspection and repair charge. It's a huge relief whenever you find someone competent and trustworthy. I am thrilled to have Jacob and ComfortX in my contractor Rolodex! As an added bonus, our house had two systems that were nonfunctioning since we moved in three years ago: air purification and whole house humidification. Numerous visits from various contractors resulted in versions of "We don't know how to do that" type answers. In contrast, ComfortX explained how these systems worked, described what it would take to get them functional and installed optimally, and they will be soon doing the repair that we have been struggling to get done for years now.

Dealing with this company has been an absolute nightmare…read more Replaced my whole AC. Was at my house from 8am to almost 10pm. My husband had ti take off work and I had to leave work early because my husband had an appointment. A technician came out with an apprentice. The AC never actually turned on and they had to come out the next day because things outside weren't properly installed. The following Monday (exactly 1 week later), we woke up and the AC wasn't working again. Monday was also Labor Day so naturally, it took my husband 9 calls to get in contact with someone even though this company claims to be 24/7. The issue was, the thermostat wasn't properly installed which turned the whole system off. They didn't have another thermostat to give us, so they took reinstalled our old ones which temporarily fixed the issues. Next day, AC wasn't working again. This time it was a draining issue in the attic -my husband went up in the attic and drained it manically. Technician came out, actually broke it more (which we found out the next day) and left. This technician was at my house till 7-8 at night. Next day, AC wasn't working again. Still a drowning issue. My husband continued to manually drain it himself and took a video of the broke piping that wasn't previously broken. No technicians can come out till the following day. Thursday now, I leave work early for the technicians that are supposed to come 12-2... guess what, no one does. 2:15, I call for an update, 3:30 I call for an update. Technician finally shows up at about 530 -so again, I had to take off of work for no reason. Technician comes out, my husband shows him the video and guess what? THEY DONT HAVE THE PARTS TO FIX IT. So I waited all day for absolutely nothing. Technicians are supposed to come back out today so we'll see if this finally gets resolved. I'm not hopeful. Update: Company never called me to notify me when someone was going to come out like they said they would which annoying. When the technician came out, he had the correct fittings for the piping but he forgot a thermostat so he had to go get one at their store so that added another hour. All the technicians that have come out have been very nice. But that doesn't actually fix my AC. I feel completely ripped off. They replaced my whole system, just for it to take like 4-5 other visits to work . It feels like they're stealing our money. They never even give us the courtesy of calling to let us know when someone will be at the house if they're running late -they just expect us to be able to wait all day. Terrible customer service. Me and my husband are both active duty military so luckily we don't lose any money when we need to leave work early for these things but guess what? A lot of people do lose their income when they aren't actually at work. This company seems to have no sense urgency or caring of others to actually prioritize them and their time At this point, I want/expect a conversation with an owner or manager. I requested that one the phone and the woman said she'd forward me call to someone.. still haven't gotten anything from anyone. It's like they don't actually care. I'd like to know the average amount of apts it typically takes to install someones AC correctly and if it's always so many. I'd also like a discount because all of the issues we've run into have been absolutely ridiculous.
