We ended up with pieces we cherish and the delivery fee was usually waived or low. We did have one hiccup with a smaller item not having all the required parts but one call to Ballard customer service and it was handled by a very genteel, sweet customer service rep. Really great store where we enjoy shopping! Ballard often has sales, so I recommend keeping an eye out and going in at strategic times of year. One of our visits was right before a seasonal change and our designer offered us a floor model at a discount! Also, the catalogs and website are great resources! Some items may be overpriced, but we have found the quality of our purchases to be fair for the prices we have paid so far. I suggest checking out their website first before coming in and letting the designers know your limits. We never felt looked down upon for being clear with the designers about our budget or tastes. Lastly, the staff at this location have consistently been welcoming and kind. I generally prefer to enjoying browsing on my own and approaching staff once I have a decision or a question. However, I appreciate that the staff/ designers always ask if they may help or simply greet me warmly. A small display of sincere effort means a lot to so many folks in the digital age. Keep it up!

What unsettled me immediately was seeing him peering into my Target bag, as if trying to assess what I had purchased. Perhaps he didn't realize I was watching him while he was watching me. As I walked through the store, the sense of being surveilled intensified. Every time I turned around, the owner was directly behind me. I also observed him on the phone, and shortly after, a man in a yellow shirt and khaki pants began following me as well. When I moved, he moved. When I paused, he pretended to rearrange items on the shelf. The behavior was blatantly obvious and deeply uncomfortable. To ensure I wasn't imagining things, I intentionally changed directions yet both men continued mirroring my movements. When I finally confronted one of them and asked, "Sir, are you following me?" he nervously replied, "No, no, no," even though the truth was painfully clear. This message is directed to the owner: Racial profiling your customers is unacceptable, demeaning, and profoundly unprofessional. I have patronized this store many times, and to be treated this way is not only insulting it is disappointing beyond words. PS: People of color spend money too.

My review is from the standpoint of a potential consigner. I tried for a couple of months to move…read moreforward with consignment of a collection of items, Cambodian antiques. I submitted the form for a collection to the art department. The confirmation of submission email I received indicated it might take up to a week to get a response, so after a couple of weeks I sent a follow up email. I never got a response to my submission or to my follow-up attempt. I then forwarded the email to the main email address for The Guild, and again, nothing. I waited a while and then reached out again to follow up. No response. I also attempted to reach someone by phone. This process was really exasperating, and I eventually gave up and took my items somewhere else. At the very minimum, their confirmation email should've indicated it might take weeks or months to receive a response, if that was the issue. If they did not want the items, all it would've taken would have been a one-line email to let me know. I followed all the instructions on the website. I couldn't bring the items in because the website indicated you could only bring one or two items in on the designated art day, and that if it were more, that you had to submit that form to the art department. It is bizarre to me that I would receive no response to my submissions through these official channels. I also sent a follow up email indicating how unhappy I was with my experience, and I received no response to that either. My advice is to take your items somewhere else for consignment. It is not worth the trouble to do it at The Guild. It was a complete waste of time for me.
