I would have chosen no stars but that wasn't an option.
I will tell you my experience and let you make your own decision.
I found D&B Windows through a series of calls to other screen door installers who kept referring me to other people. D&B was my sixth call.
I dialed the number. A woman picked up. I asked for the owner and her the first thing she said was, "How did you get this number?"
Already a bit put off, I explained that the last call I made gave me this number to call.
The owner wasn't in. I was reluctant to call again but it seemed that there was nowhere else to go.
I called a few times without a call back.
Finally, I spoke to the owner. He spent most of the conversation trashing all the other people in my area who do what he does. One of these companies I had already used (Jimmy's) and was very pleased with the job they did.
We made an appointment for him to come and measure.
Appointment day comes. Two hours after the appointment time, I called the company. I'm told there was an emergency and we'll have to reschedule.
Now I'm really put off.
I decide that the screen door for the terrace isn't that important after all.
I get a call from him ... he wants to make another appointment. Reluctantly, I make the appointment.
He measures, tells me how fantastic the door will be. "It will be perfect. We do the best job of anyone in the area."
I agree to have him install the door.
He tells me it'll take about two weeks before he has the door.
The date for installation was July 11. I remember that because I was hoping to have it on July 4.
I don't hear from before July 11 and call him on July 18. I leave a message.
I call back on July 25 and leave a message ... a message that let's him know that I'm not happy.
He calls back and tells me the people who make the door are backed up.
About five days later, the lady in his office calls and tells me they have the door and want to come and install it on Friday. I happen to have weekend plans that Friday and tell her I need another date. I hear the owner whining in the background ... "Make her change her plans."
After all the NON call-backs and the NO SHOW on appointments, I wasn't about to do that.
We make an appointment for August 8.
He shows up on time and installs the door.
About a week after the door is installed, I realize the glass terrace door no longer stays closed.
I call him twice and leave messages. No call back.
The third time I call, he picks up the phone. I could hear the 'anguish' in his voice when he realizes it's ME on the other end of the phone.
I tell him the problem and he starts screaming at me ... "THAT'S JUST A COINCIDENCE OR IT'S JIMMY'S. I TOLD YOU THEY WERE A TERRIBLE OUTFIT. DON'T PUT THIS ON ME. IT ISN'T ME, IT'S JIMMY'S." On and on.
We end the conversation with him telling me he could stop by that day. For sure he'll make things right ... he'll call me back in 1/2 hour.
I'm still waiting.
Truth is, I don't want him anywhere near my home. If he could freak out like that on the phone, no telling what he would do in person. read more
