Love this place simply for their assorted meats sandwich. I don't know how, but it's the best sandwich I've ever had/will ever have. The balance of each meat used is perfect on the super fresh bun and honestly fills up my soul and tummy. The lady who (I think) owns the place is kind of all no-fuss in that she just wants your order so she can make it and say bye. All good w me, not every interaction needs a lengthy convo. Considering there's only a couple of chairs in here at the counter/pub height thing on the window, I can see why she's not really keen to keep people in there for long. They can get busy on lunch, as (sadly) their amazing sammies are becoming more well known. They sell soup and pasta as well, but I honestly just get the same thing every time I'm there. I've heard they sell pizza and a small selection of Italian goods as well. I'm working two blocks away for the next bit, so I'm super pumped to get more of this delicious lunch whenever I can! It's not a bad spot. I would say the portion is pretty good value for the sandwiches. I had the Italian grill and it was quite big. As well as the minestrone soup was pretty good. Mom and pop place and would be great for deli meats if you live nearby. It's a touch below Italian Center shop though. read more

So D'Amores might just be my new go to spot for when I have a hankering for some deliciously grilled sandwiches. Lucky me, there are actually some good places to eat near my work (who knew? Apparently industrial areas are DIMES). Having recently tried their latest branch, D'Amore Mecanto's, I knew I had to try out the original, which has been in business for almost 40 years. What??? Why have I never heard of this place before then? D'Amore Deli is very similar in style to it's newer, slicker sister counterpart (why is it not brother?) but on a much smaller, compact scale. Inside, there's only one table for four and a couple counter chairs (about 8 stools) that look out onto the street. Desserts at the front of the counter and frozen lasagna/pasta/tiramisu/gelato in the freezer at the back along with fresh bread and other Italian goodies. Take a look while you wait patiently for your sandwich to be grilled - both times that I've been there, there has been a constant (but steady) lineup. Anyways, for food, I was with co-workers for two separate trips. That's right, you get a two-for-one special post on this bad boy: Trip #1 - Chunks of potato soup ($3.00 large) - lives up to its names with lots of potato chunks in it. Very flavourful but not heavy as you would expect from a normal, usually creamy potato soup. - Chili ($5.00 large) - my co-worker had this one and he thought it was great. That's a bunch of fresh parmesan cheese on top (which they ask if you want before putting on). - Prosciutto and bocconcini ($8.00 large) - lightly grilled but we both wished that the sandwich itself was hotter. It was only a lukewarm, if that. Comes with hot peppers (not actually hot), tomato, veggie spread and olive oil dressing. Bocconcini and prosciutto compliment each other very nicely. - Penne pasta with meat sauce ($7.00 for a full order) - I asked for the marinara sauce but they messed up and gave us the meat sauce. While the pasta was very simple, it was done well and tasted great. Fresh and homemade is the best. Trip #2 - 2x Chicken cutlet sandwich ($8.00 large) - this is their Wednesday sandwich special. Chicken cutlet with hot peppers, onions and house dressing. My poor co-worker said her mouth was on fir from the hot peppers (no idea how, see above). I told her she'll slowly become immune to spicy food the more she eats with me. Win-win). Tasty sandwich and again, nicely perfectly grilled. - Risotto soup ($3.00 large) - slightly spicy, homemade risotto soup. It also came with a good amount of vegetables in it - just think of minestrone soup with the addition of rice. Nice and piping hot. - Grilled club ($8.00 large) - roast beef, turkey breast, ham with mozzarella, lettuce, tomato, mayo, mustard, and house dressing. My other co-worker's sandwich was stuffed to the brim with meat! Definitely will need to try this one next time. - Roast beef ($6.00 regular) - roast beef with mozzarella, onions, hot peppers, mayo, mustard and house dressing. Co-worker was stuffed, even with just a regular. - 2x Portuguese natas ($1.50 each) - yes, I know, we got natas at an Italian place. My co-worker, who apparently loves natas, was not impressed. In my opinion, they weren't bad. They did taste much better when I heated them up in the toaster oven at work versus eating them cold. I tried to warn my co-worker that it's probably not the best idea to order a Portugese speciality at an Italian place but no one listens to me... - 2x Cannoli ($2.50 each) - very flaky, didn't try the cannoli's myself but they looked good. - 3 Layer tiramisu ($12) - we brought this back to share with the rest of the staff and to celebrate my bday (woo me). It wasn't bad but some spots had that freezer/ice burn taste to it which was off putting. I still think I make a better tiramisu (slightly biased towards my self. Definitely debatable). Great place to go for lunch. Get there early to beat the lunch rush or be prepared to wait patiently while your mouth drools uncontrollably. read more

I've lived only a few blocks from this place for the past 7 years, and only finally decided to try it today after reading a post on FB about sandwich places in Edmonton. It's pretty small, and you definitely don't want to be in a big rush during busy times. The food more than makes up for any of this though. I got the Cuban Grill. Sliced turkey and cappicoli, with provolone. Mayo, mustard, house dressing and delicious garlic pickles. I also picked out a bowl of the soup special, chunky potato. To top of my lunch, I grabbed a slice of double chocolate banana cake, OMG was that good. Everything was delicious, and the only reason I'm giving a 4 instead of 5 stars, is because I think their grills need to be a touch hotter. They are warm enough to warm everything through, but it really only dries out the crust of the bread instead of toasting it. If I'm going to rip up the roof of my mouth with crusty bread, it better have that yummy toasty flavour to it to make up for it, and this sandwich did not have that. I think I'll just get my sandwich cold next time, as there will, for sure, a next time. read more

I would recommend stopping at this random little family run Italian store that not only serves up freshly made sandwiches, pasta, and also doubles as an Italian grocery store (selling limited items though). This place is popular with trades people for lunch from what I gather after visiting during a weekday. They offer up two different sizes of sandwiches: regular or large. I ordered the Italian while my fiancé ordered the roast beef option. We both enjoyed our respective sandwiches, which you can also get grilled in a more panini-like style or just cold. Be forewarned, the owner of the place, an old Italian lady is not very friendly... Strictly business for her, and she doesn't have time for those who don't know what they're getting.... Or at least that's the impression I got when we were there. Thankfully, the hired help making our sandwiches was friendlier and smiled at least! I have been passing by this deli on a regular basis for almost 4 years, but never had the opportunity to give it a shot. To be honest, it looked a little shady, but I should know by now to not judge a book by its cover. Great sandwiches, friendly people, and a good variety of specialty grocery items. We stopped in on a Saturday for two decently portioned sandwiches and sodas for about $17. There was a lot of traffic in and out, but mostly people were taking their food to go. We sat at their little bar to eat. There is also one table inside. So not a lot of seating, but no one really stays for too long. I will definitely be back to try something new. read more

Grabbed a quick lunch here to take back to the office after hearing good things. It's a counter that is part of a small store that focuses mainly on sandwiches, though there is also pizza and pasta as well. Definitely more of a to-go place. We tried a few different sandwiches and were fairly happy with them. They are definitely meat heavy and high on salt content. (Lots of cured meats.) Also tried the special of the day, the chicken cutlet sandwich and wished it wasn't so soggy. Was hoping for more crisp. Service is friendly but we felt rushed being it was our first time and everyone seemed to know what they wanted right away and we needed a minute to look at the menu. I have been wanting to try this place out for a while as we moved into the neighbourhood last spring but every time I drove by after work it was closed. Today I was lucky to have a day off so my husband and I went in with high hopes. It is a quaint shop and they sell some Italian favorites for a marked up price, but we came for the menu. I ordered an Italian grill sandwich and minestrone soup. Both were good but for the price I am just not convinced. My husband ordered the chicken noodle to try but unfortunately it had no veggies or chicken and tasted like it came from a can. He also ordered a pasta but it was very minimal in flavour as well. The staff here are not friendly in they did not greet us and seemed annoyed that we were taking our time to decide. There was no hello, Thank you or Goodbye which I think is just basic courtesy in a customer service environment as that is also what I do for a living. Will not go out of my way to head here again but if you are in the neighbourhood when it's open, the minestrone soup and sandwiches would be your best bet, just be prepared to pay extra! read more

Can't go wrong with an Italian deli. Was in Edmonton for the weekend and stopped here for a quick early lunch. Had a Cubano sandwich (delicious!) and partner had the pasta. Pasta was a little watered down, but still good. Good portion and awesome selection in the small grocery aisle. read more

I have grew up in the north end all my life and my family, friends and i have been going to this deli and grocery store for about 30 years. This is a family owned business ran by mother and son, who are very nice people. These panini grilled sandwiches they make are unbelievably good, i have bought my own panini press and just buy all the ingredients from D'amores because i eat them so often. I have converted many non believers to these sandwiches and will continue to do so. These sandwiches are not the only wonders D'amores has. They have fresh Italian soups, breads, pasta, pizza, and coffee that is sure to knock your socks off! with their imported groceries, fresh meats and foods Dámores is hands down the best deli and sandwich restaurant you will ever go to. Sandwiches soups and pasta worth travelling all the way up there for. Sometimes can take an hour but the food is pretty good. They'll do anything for your sandwich and can pump them out when fully staffed. It's a small family owned place so as such has some below standard accommodations such as the bathroom and only drinks from bottled pop & juice. Also they have a decent grocery side to it with imported goods. Couldn't really comment on that though haven't bought any read more

Since the change in ownership- this amazing little deli has become a best seller for poor service. Within the last 2 months- the most delicious sandwiches have become tasteless. The workers no longer wear gloves when preparing the food & no longer have any manners. The workers have to ask the customers what's in the sandwich described in the menu. This restaurant which was once friendly and delicious- has lost it's Italian touch. Not worth the $$$ or time. If they could get back the sweet older lady that ran the place- then id highly recommend going there- for now, save your hunger pains for somewhere else. read more

While the folks here are friendly enough, it is my belief that their sandwiches are a tad overrated.
