D.A.D.'s lawn service is great for standard lawn care (mow, edge, fertilizer, etc). He is very affordable and reliable. However, he lacks experience with more extensive landscaping. I had him re-seed my lawn this spring, and he seeded before it was warm enough for bermuda grass, prepped my lawn incorrectly, and gave me incorrect watering advice. I ended up redoing the whole front lawn myself after talking to some other professionals. It also usually takes 2 or 3 missed appointments before he shows up for consultations/non-standard work. read more

I was skeptical about hiring a lawn service, since I was afraid of getting a lazy crew that basically just mowed and nothing more. Not with Duane and his crew! They came out, pulled weeds, put fertilizer down, and just in general really took care of my brand new lawn! They claim to be going through transitions, and fail to notify customers who remained loyal through inconsistencies. The impression that they give is that are switching from residential to commercial service and struggle through the transition. Not much to say here other than not very dependable. read more

OMG, THIS IS THE SINGLE REVIEW I'M MOST EXCITED TO WRITE!!!!! Wow, I am SO pleased with D.A.D.s and their team. I cannot even express my sincere satisfaction for these guys helping me when I needed it. Why did I need my yard cared for and refuse to do weekly service? First, I called and emailed 7 places, no joke, 7 in the Austin area. 4 responded, the other 3 didn't even bother because I specifically said that I could not commit to weekly or bi-monthly service yet but needed monthly or at least a one time job done. All 3 (other than DADs) quote me $45 for twice a month service and wouldn't even discuss once a month making it clear they weren't that interested in my business. None of them offered to take a look at my yard before quoting just said that was as low as they would go. I called D.A.D.s and talked to (I think her name was) Danielle(?). She was so sweet when I explained that I just couldn't commit to regular service but really needed help and she said she would have Duane call me to take a look. I told them both my yard was in embarrassingly bad shape but Duane called me back and said he was in the area and would swing by if I was available. I was and he showed up right on time and did a walkthrough with me. He allowed me to set up monthly service with them, which I will happily commit to and hope to increase to every other week simply because they did such an awesome job! I literally had 3 foot dandelions all over the back yard, branches about 3in in diameter thick from last year's storms, dried leaves everywhere, etc. Duane quoted me and said he could send a team out in a few days and that they'd have come and gone before I even got home. I got home around 5pm the day they came but they hadn't arrived yet. No biggie, still plenty of daylight left, but I called Danielle anyway and asked what was up. She checked with Duane and they both apologized up and down (for doing nothing wrong at all, mind you!) and said they would be there for sure before night fall. I got worried since the yard was so overgrown that there could be snakes or other critters if they waited until it got dark, so I kept calling and pestering them and they were SO NICE dealing with my neurosis! Not once did they sound exasperated with my calling and they just kept apologizing and assuring me it would happen as scheduled. The team showed up, not even sure how many but I heard the mower flash by in the front and then the weeding began and the blowing away of all the debris while the mowing in the back took place simultaneously. It took them , no joke, less than 30 minutes to do both front and back and my yard looks fantastic now! I was so surprised they were able to move that quickly and I had not at all expected the blowing and trimming to be so immaculate. I really could not be happier and look forward to remaining a loyal customer to D.A.Ds for as long as I own this house and live in Austin! I do really hope I can get to the point where I can have them come out more often simply to thank them for being willing to take me on without more of a commitment to their service, especially when no one else in town could even be bothered to answer my questions! read more

The rates are reasonable. The service is average. The communication is poor. It took 3-5 days for the business to return a call on more than one occasion. They told me I was wrong when reporting the condition of my yard without even seeing for themselves. To critique the service on the lawn, they use a mower with a huge deck, so if you have a lawn that isn't flat, it's going to look uneven. Now for the terrible customer service. I have a large percentage of rocks and plants in my front yard (~ 40% rocks vs. grass). I called in advance to confirm that my garden rocks would be blown off as there were many oak leaves and tassels and offered that I would pay more for the service to get the rocks blown too. I was reassured that they would be without any questions or additional details. When the service was performed, only a small percentage of the rock bed had been blown (~10%). I called to inform them that the rocks had not been blown. They said the team was in the area that day and would come back that same day to blow the rocks. I was pleased with the quick response and eagerness to satisfy the customer. Several days passed and the rocks had not been blown and I had no communication from the business. I assumed they did not make it out. I called the office and they indicated that the team had been back that day and the rocks were blown the first time. They also said that I had a dead tree dropping more leaves. I have no dead trees so thought that the team may have been confused on the location. I suggested this to give the team the benefit of the doubt rather than accusing them of lying about blowing my leaves. Danielle acted insulted/impatient with my suggestion and indicated they knew where it was since they had just mowed it. I indicated that I had taken pictures of the rocks the day they performed the initial service and I could share that to help with our communication. I sent the owner pictures via email. With images, he was no longer able to insist that the leaves had been blown. He then responded that they service the yard so that it looks nice from the street and blowing the rocks wasn't included and if I had wanted that done, I needed to have requested it up front. This is exactly what I did upon my initial call. I was extremely polite, professional, and patient throughout my communication with the service. This company is highway robbery. There mowing prices are reasonable, but they over charge and under deliver on additional services. They left yard trimmings and leaves in my yard and way overcharged me for the leaves. They are rude and unprofessional. I responded after Duane initiated the cussing and hung up on my. My words were, " your crew did a half ass job, and I believe they padded the leaves to up charge me." Awful service and clearly not an organization built on gaining and maintaining good customer relationships. I had to reach out to them 4 times to just get pricing. This is my first yelp review, and I couldn't be more thrilled to write it! This is a great company, Duane, the owner Im assuming, was just great to work with. I tried 3 other lawn agencies I found on Yelp, no call or email returned. I sent a request via email to D.A.D.s lawn service through their website around Noon on a Monday, and Duane was at my house at 4pm the same day to take a look and give me an estimate, which I received via email that same night. Estimate was fair, and I booked the job for Wednesday. I texted Duane about adding a metal border to the area his crew would be installing pea gravel, knowing it would add an additional cost, but Duane actually said he didnt think it would be a good idea because it has sharp eduges and is a trip hazard (he met my very mobile 9 month old when he came by to give his estimate). So, he actually talked me out of it, even though he would have made more money! His crew showed up while I was at work, and I came home to a beautifully manicured lawn with ZERO LEAVES!! Plus, the crew takes the bages of leaves instead of leaving them for me to deal with! I will definitely be using this company again!! read more
