Updating this review from several years ago. We made some changes to that property and sold part of it, so the lawn service eventually switched to another provider. But I'm updating my review based on an extraordinarily positive interaction and outcome. A couple of weeks ago Andy contacted me. Again it has been several years since we did business together. He let me know that in an accounting review he discovered that I had a pile of extra money sitting with him- probably from some bill pay overages that I had set up through my bank. It looks like an error we both missed in some long forgotten year, and I probably would have never known, but Andy did the right thing, contacted me , and mailed a check. Of course this came at a time when it was needed- I mean, have you seen the price of eggs? That's the kind of business you want to deal with, and you hope that more often than not it is. But it's rare that something like this happens and you get to see it on full display. Recently I had them level my yard, which caused some complications in the lawn. Fortunately, Andy and the team were gracious about completely fixing it at no extra cost to me. Picture this... 2 hours before a showing to sell our house 2 different landscapers cancel on us last minute, in a Hail Mary attempt we call House to House and within 20 minutes there is guy at our front door, swiftly and delicately he pulls the weeds and cuts down the vines with a professional elegance. Next thing we know he is cleaning up the area and our friend Mr and back yards look better than they have in years. If I had known how good they were, I would have called them first. House to house has been providing our lawn care for 10+ years as well as handling small landscaping projects. So, when we decided to have a side yard makeover it made sense to give them a call. The work provided by Ray was excellent. He was able to take my very basic sketch of what I was thinking and create exactly what I wanted. After buying a new home in Austin with weeds in the front that were a foot high, we realized we wanted to pay for lawn maintenance rather than spend every weekend doing it ourselves. House to House came out the very day I contacted them and showed up weekly after that (except for heavy rain weeks). For lawn maintenance they are reliable, affordable and competent. Our back yard was basically dirt and we had an area next to our front door that was just "weedy looking" shrubs. We decide to do some hard-scaping in those areas and I started to browse the websites of a few different companies specializing in that. Somehow I landed back on the website of House to House and saw that they offered these types of services, in addition to regular yard maintenance. I made a consultation appointment and the next week Wes came out to talk to me about our different projects. He was very friendly and helpful and full of different suggestions. And very knowledgeable about Texas plants! A few days later, both Wes and Cole (Admin) emailed us quotes for our different projects. They were reasonable and within our budget. Because we like to support small and local businesses, we decided to go with them for our projects. My only negative about making that decision was the time it took them to actually get to our special projects! It was over a month. But to be fair to them, they had told me it might take several weeks because it was their busiest time of the year. When I texted Wes to let him know it had been a month since original quote, he assured me they would get right on it. Sure enough, the very next morning Wes was there with another member of his crew. Together they worked very hard all day laying our new flagstone courtyard next to our front door. We were, and still are, very happy with it! The only reason I give 4 and not 5 stars is that I have had a few people comment that the flagstones in our courtyard should have been sunken in lower and More level with one another. The more rugged or homestyle look has not bothered us, however. Two weeks later a crew of four men showed up to deliver and lay down river rock in our backyard. They worked very hard all morning and hardly took a break. We are very pleased with our nice-looking maintenance-free backyard. Even though it took a little longer than we had originally intended, we are very happy with the work that House to House did. I wouldn't hesitate in using them again for a special project. And we will continue to use them for our weekly yard maintenance. read more

Our backyard had a lot of potential, but the deck was falling apart and there were some patches where nothing would grow. We decided to do a complete backyard makeover, so we put in a pool. The pool company abandoned us before the project was finished and left our backyard absolutely wrecked. After we got the debris cleaned up, we looked for a landscaping company that could complete the transformation from hot mess to hell yes. House to House had been taking care of our yard for a few years, so we were delighted to find out that the company we trusted also did landscaping! (As you might imagine, we had a few trust issues at this point!) Wes came out and really took the time to listen and come up with an amazing plan. He was so knowledgeable and helpful, and the plants he chose were better than I could have ever imagined. He and Ray came out and worked so hard to make everything perfect - they are truly a couple of miracle workers. Above and beyond does not begin to describe our experience with Ray & Wes. Our yard is utterly gorgeous, and even before it was completely finished, our friends and family were remarking on how beautiful it already was! Trust me - I know what a bad company looks like. I worked with one VERY recently. These guys are the exact opposite of that. If you want an amazing transformation and a yard you're addicted to being in, these are the guys you want to call. I am filing a compliant due to the lack of communication from the person who handles the 512-736-2550 via text message. I have tried to call and text multiple times with no response. When you came out to mow my lawn, your workers broke the glass and damaged my front glass screen door. You all took the door off and stated it would be serviced internally to avoid an insurance claim. I am following up two weeks later on this as no one has updated me. This is unacceptable business and need a response asap. I would not recommend this business due to the lack of communication and sense of ownership. read more

Rey and Jessie came today to clear all the dead debris and branches from the February snow storm. I'm so sorry that Jessie was stung by bees that I didn't know were there. First time using House to House for landscaping. Their in-house landscape guy, "Wes" went over the project with me several times, suggesting plants, giving good tips on what might work given the sloping area in my yard. His team headed by "Rey" was amazing! They not only worked fast and did great work, they surprised me with a "kitty grave" when I told them not to mess with a certain area because my dear cat was buried there. This is what they made for me ..... like I said, it was a big surprise! read more

We've been trying out a few lawn services, and House to House have been by far, the worst. Our back and front yards were trimmed in the last 2 weeks professionally, and still House to House charged us extra for 6 bags of debris they picked up. There is also a secret "hand-weeding" cost, at a per-hour rate. Thankfully, after I complained that they didn't tell us this ahead of time, they dropped the extra $15 that would have been on our bill. Still, the whole thing came out to $80 for a lawn that barely needed trimming (it's been dry for months in Austin, and there was no rain and very little if any growth from the past 2 weeks since it had been cut professionally). Even with the "6 bags of debris", they left behind at least 3 piles of leaves. Not only that, but they used the leaf blower and blew leaves ALL over our outdoor furniture...and then just left it there. Definitely would not recommend these guys. read more

I spent 17 days trying to get them to set up service. A voicemail I left them two days ago received no response; they didn't call me back. No explanation. You know what they say about first impressions. If this is how they behave before you give them the money, imagine how they'll behave afterwards. House to House doesn't need your business. Most unprofessional service. Stay away from them, they out right lie about the service provided. Found random charges in our invoice, many of those services were not done on our lot. Beware of the leaf bag cleanup, first of all they leave the bag at 40% and gently stuffed and secondly claim more bags then actual. They haul away bag so unless, so really unless you are there watching you won't even realize what kind of scam they operate. BEWARE!!!! read more

That was 2020 during COVID. Now it's 2021, and it's a completely different story. If they didn't blame the rain, they blamed COVID, or they blamed staffing shortages, or they blamed us...it was never their responsibility to show up on game day. They would set a time to come out and not show up or communicate to us why they didn't show up. At one point I was told, by Joseph, that it was my responsibility to call, text, or email their office to see if they wanted to cut our grass that particular week. So the first time they cut in 2021 was after the rain storms. They left the clippings on the lawn. Our St. Augustine had grown quite a bit, so it looked like hay bales sitting in a field. They never offered to pick up the clippings and charge for it; they just left them there. Thereinafter, I asked them to pickup the clippings. Well they did, kinda sorta. They picked them up in the front lawn, but left them on the back lawn. I'd have to go out with a rake and pick up what they didn't feel like doing. At one point their crew complained about picking up the clippings, even though the company was charging us $7 a bag for clippings. We then received an email letting us know the displeasure of their crew (about picking up the clippings), and they asked me to consider weekly service. So after two weeks went by, I agreed to weekly service because our lawn grew so fast in between cuttings. The last time I saw them cut my lawn was 3 weeks ago, after I had agreed to go weekly. After they didn't show or call or write today, we terminated their service with cause. House to House loves you as long as you kiss their royal behinds and give them gold stars every time they show up to do a half-ass cut. When they didn't get that from us this year, that's when all hell broke loose and they lost interest. In fact, the email I received back from Joseph, after I terminated them, said "No problem. I've got you taken off rotation going forward." I have to tell you as someone who has owned two successful businesses, that was the absolute worst response to give a paying customer. read more

One of the worst companies you will work with. They don't show up on time, they say they do but the lawn is too short until you send them a picture, then they show up. They rarely reply. They say they will show up on a specific day but do not. They never call to tell you, in advance, that they will not be showing up on any given day. Really disappointing, seems they make too much money to actually do their jobs for customers. read more

Hired them to clean up a yard that did not have any tlc for years because of the tenants that lived in the home previously. They spent more than half a day and took out dead shrubs, cut trees back, raked out leaves, mowed the lawn and mulched the beds. The crew is amazing and worked so hard in the middle of the day that I was totally impressed. Wes also came out and consulted during the process and was able to deliver new plants at the same time. This guy likes to wait months to bill you then acts like you're the A-hole for paying late. All winter, my lawn was covered in leaves while he ignored both my wife & I pleading via email to do something about it. Turns out we were being ignored because we didn't pay his bill which was sent out on time (thanks USPS) but undelivered. Funny though, we received NO indication of its absence. Could have said something, Andy. My new lawn guy emails us the day after it's due which is a great reminder. So does everyone else now that I think of it. He also sends out emails saying he can do all these extra services like tree trimming and gardening but wont answer an email for two months and then says he's too busy. His crew hasn't been to my house in 6 months and dude just sent me a bill for $7. If you want to be ignored and be jerked around w billing I'd highly recommend H2H. If you just want someone to act like they care, go somewhere else. The only reason I'm not giving less stars is because his crews are honest, hard working, and do a very good job of what you ask of them. It's not their fault their management is mostly absent. In fact if his bigger crew chief started his own lawn service, I WOULD LOVE TO HIRE HIM!!! He's great w people, detail oriented, and works hard to get it done right. The work the crew guys do is good, however the management is very misleading with their pricing and don't seem to care at all about it. We were quoted $39.00 a visit for our yard and just a couple bucks extra for bags. Next thing you know we owe $250.00 for 3 visits... That's $120.00 for the service, and $130.00 for "bags". If your "small bag fee" is going to more than double the price of your quote, I'd say that is very misleading and you are misrepresenting the price of your service in your quotes. Our yard is also extremely small so I really can't wrap my head around how it can take $60 worth of bags a visit. I also do no understand how you can call something a "small fee" when it's 150% of the quoted cost... read more

If you live in the Legend Oaks/Circle C area, Andy and his crew at House to House will take good care of your lawn for very reasonable prices. They do all of the basic stuff, like mowing, edging and blowing, and have added a few other services such as putting out mulch, fertilizing with organic products, and will give you advice on how to take care of your grass. For example: I wanted them to cut our St. Augustine grass a little closer to the ground, and Andy said no, that if he did that our grass would need twice as much water. Well, it's the middle of the 100-degree desert heat now, and guess who's grass is green and lovely with only 1 watering per week? Ours, that's whose. Thanks to Andy. We needed to do a major overhaul of our landscaping such as planting lots bushes/flowers, lining our driveway with paver stones, and putting sod in various places (i.e. pool). A realtor friend of ours recommended House to House. Wes came out and was very knowledgeable and helpful in developing the overall plan and working with us as we tweaked it during the process. I was also very pleased with Rey - I would call him the technician of the crew - he had all the special tools needed and obviously had a lot of experience laying sod, planting bushes, flowers, etc. Finally, I thought the price was very reasonable for all the work that they did! read more

I've used House to House as our regular yard service for years and they have always been great. Reasonably priced and dependable. We also use them for Spring cleanup every year and they do a great job. We just had them come out and clean up our devastated plants, ground cover, and shrubs and they did an awesome job! Jose and Mark were very professional, did everything that we asked and worked so hard getting everything in shape. I'm sad that we had such a mess after the horrible freeze but they did such a good job cleaning it all out. I cannot say enough good things about them! Highly recommend this company. read more

These guys are great! I noticed them doing my neighbors yard for years and asked him the name of the company since we really didn't have the time to do it to my wife's (high) expectations. Turns out they were doing not only my neighbors yard but his neighbors yard too and the house next to that one. So I basically just got in line and when they come they do all four of us and they are great! They do excellent work, are extremely professional and we could not be more pleased with the service.
