It's not just about the food, ambiance or service on its own. It's the entire experience that leaves lasting memories of ones visit for the years to come. Upon walking into this lovely establishment, you are greeted with smiles and courteous staff. My waitress offered to take my jacket and waited for me to get situated before handing the menu to me. I love the little details as such. She asked what my name was and introduced her to me. Gave me a brief rundown of the drink menu and special before she gave space for me to review their options. When asked about wine, she was honest and advised that she does not know their wine well yet and got another staff who is familiar to review that with me. This ensures that my experience in this arena is nothing less of stellar. When I began to review the food menu, she broke down the dishes that she enjoyed and explain so. Again, our waitress took measures to ensure a pleasant evening. Long story short, wine was on point, food was delicious, and service was quite charming. Visit and see if my words are valid.

I had the fried oysters and the duck breast, which were mouth watering, followed by coffee parfait, which was the perfect finish to everything. Service was excellent as well. Staff were patient, kind, and personable. Ambience was sophisticated and perfect for any date or occasion. I would go back in a heart beat.

Beetroots. Anyone remember the Monty Python spam skit? I kind of did redux with it with Beetroot…read more You can have anything you want, so long as it has beetroot in it. 'well the eggs, sausage, beetroot' doesn't have too much beetroot in it! But that's okay, it was wonderful. I had a starter with red mullet and beetroot, and moved onto beetroot risotto. The other 5 in the party had beetroot in at least one and mostly two courses with many enjoying beetroot in the salad. Obviously they had fresh beetroots and that's kind of what it's about isn't it. All our our meals were prepared very well with nice fresh ingredients. A number of us had duck which I am told was fine. We shared some cheese to close which was quite fine. The wine selection was fine. We had a couple bottles at nice prices including a 2003 St. Julian under 50. We will return and I expect whatever is fresh (seasonal) and nice will dominate the menu.

It's just around the corner from Wandsworth Common and yummy! The food... me with my 1950's farmer tastes skipped starters and went for the rabbit followed by a cheese board. The rabbit was just how I have always imagined it should be but have never quite got before. Flavoursome, soft and substantial, served on a parsnip mash with caramalised onion... I did manage to steal a little asparagus from Mr Rupert's sea bass as I felt I needed a bit of colour on my plate to prepare me for the cheese... Oh the cheeeeessse. We were presented with a platter as big as our table with I am sure 15 plus different cheeses for us to choose from. What a choice... pure heaven. And off we rolled home. *A word for the wise, if it's a hot summer night...make the most of it and book an outside table. Mr Rupert and I didn't, so were inside on one of the warmest evenings this year.

The place was beautifully decorated for Christmas and the staff were very welcoming…read more A huge appeal to me is when the food you see on Instagram actually looks the same in person and it absolutely did. The sole, the sea bass and the risotto were all delicious. The sauce on the sole was a particular favourite. The pork belly was also delicious and an extremely generous portion (see my photo!). I have to say the bread was some of the best restaurant bread I've had in a while and a couple of us couldn't stop eating it! We were there the same time as a large Christmas party and our waitress was so sweet to apologise for the noise and big group around us...which didn't bother us at all but it was very thoughtful of them to mention it. We also had a buggy and there was no issue calling to get a corner table to have a bit more space. To top it off, they rushed to open the double doors for us to help with the pram. Fantastic customer service all around!

I had to order a side of veg to make mine feel like a proper curry, rather than just rice and salmon with curry sauce on top. The veg that was in there (some red pepper) hadn't been sliced up enough for the curry to be eaten with the spoon provided, which was thoughtless. The wine was average, but the white chocolate pannacotta was actually flavourful. The service was quite poor, though. As it was quiet, some of the waitresses were simply chatting away to each other, so they completely bodged bring us our food. Our sides and two of our mains were set in front of another family, who after some confusion indicated that the mains weren't what they'd ordered. Sadly, the sides were. They then waited ten minutes for their mains, with sides getting cold on the table, while we waited ten minutes for replacement sides as our mains got cold. Not once did the waitress give any apology or indication of what had happened, despite the fact that we watched her do it!!

Gazette is one of my local restaurants and I was surprised that no-one on Yelp has reviewed it yet!…read moreIt's a gem of a place, hidden away off the (rather nasty and quite smelly) York Road on the Battersea / Wandsworth border. Nestled between riverside apartments the restaurant offers traditional French cuisine in a relaxed and informal setting. It markets itself as a cafe, bar, brassiere and private room. To be fair, it's a restaurant on the top floor and a nice bar on the lower level (perfect for reading the paper and relaxing). The private room isn't exactly massive, and has a glass partition, so it's not exactly 'private' per se, just slightly removed from the other diners. My partner had his 40th b.day here and it was a great success. The menu was tailor made, with all his favourite things: truffles, foie gras, confit of duck etc. I ate here a couple of weeks ago with my mum, her friend and my other half. Service was good, if a little slow at times. The place is very very French so don't expect to be hurried with your meal - this is about relaxing and taking your time. Similarly, the service, timing and pacing of your meal will reflect this. The wine list is MASSIVE, and I do mean massive. However, if the owner is about (Walter) he will be more than happy to guide you to a suitable choice. Prices aren't cheap, but the selection is superb. The menu changes daily and has been designed to appear like a newspaper front page. I had snails to start, and then salmon with sweet potato for main. The snails were delicious, swimming in melted butter (I daren't even begin to think about how many calories were in it) , they also had a deliciously earthy taste. Yum. The salmon was cooked well, and the sweet potato was fine, if well, a little watery. My fellow diners had similarly hit and misses with their choices, a mustard and tomato tart was disappointing, a veal main course was served luke warm and had to be sent back (not a problem, and it was dealt with quickly and didn't impact on our enjoyment one bit), foie gras starter for my other half was delicious with red onion jam. Just another note about the way the food is served. Everything is quite 'rustic' so don't be surprised if your food comes served in a large pot / pan / dish. It's a cute gimmick, but not essential. Although must be a nightmare for the poor waiting staff. Speaking of the waiting staff 100% of them are French and have varying levels of English. So do try and be patient or ask another server. I find it adds to the whole French experience! Anyhoo, Gazette is well worth a look if you're in the area. it's also a great place to go with friends for a group birthday / event as long as you're not wanting to hit the local nightclubs after (they're aren't any). The place can get a little rowdy with the right crowd there and also for big sporting events (especially involving the French) you'll find a large ex-pat community.
