Prosecco chicken salad. Massive portion.
Rok J.

Bottom Line: Good food, attentive staff, quiet environ for conversation, nice decor. Price was decent for a nice night out. Good spot for a date night dinner. Top Line: I ordered the $18 steak fajita platter and a gin & tonic. Companions ordered the prosecco chicken salad. Salads were huge & got good marks for flavor. Easily enough to call it a meal. Fajita serving looked a little skimpy on the sizzle platter with the attendant bell peppers & sauteed onions. But they proved to be about enough for a meal by the time I used the accompanying steaming hot tortillas, pico de gallo, guacamole, & sour cream to taco'fy them. The piece of sweet corn that came along for company was extremely tender and its cheese breading was busting out with flavor. I asked that the bartender make me "the best gin & tonic he could possibly make - give me his best pour". The G&T I got was merely okay. I expect the gin was Tanqueray or Bombay. Nothing exceptional. Pretty much in line with well gin from most joints around town. If you're a G&T fan of complex tastes, I refer you to Artichoke Cafe (Los Luceros Hacienda gin) or Farina Alto pizzeria (Monkey 47 gin) for a couple of the better pours I've had in the Duke City. The dining space at Cypress Grill was *VERY* quiet. Conversation at table was conducted in normal low volume voices with no straining to hear. The nine story tall open atrium that serves as the dining area, coupled with carpeted floor, a bit of greenery, and upholstered seating, soaked up pretty much all ambient noise. Even conversations from next adjacent tables didn't register as intrusive or noisy. Our waiter (Benny, if I read my check correctly) was very attentive, courteous, and super responsive to requests for additional items. He was an exemplary server, checking back periodically to insure all was going well and we had no need of anything. I will keep Cypress Grill at the Embassy Suites on my radar for repeat visits when I want a quietly elegant venue for dinner with local compadres or out of town guests.

Shrimp and Grits

Came here during Hampton Restaurant Week. The restaurant only had a handful of people in the dining room during that time. I was surprised at how slow the service was initially. It took a long time for a server to even take our drink orders. After hour first course, our server was more present but not quite as attentive as I would've liked. Fortunately, the food was delicious and the servings were generous. I ordered the Deconstructed Chicken Cordon Bleu, which was a very interesting take on the classic dish. You can never go wrong with pork belly. My friend selected the Shrimp and Grits which were much bigger than we anticipated. I've seen the head chef on a few local news programs, so I would consider coming back.

This is inside of the embassy suites, which I was Staying at. Went down for dinner, decided on the steak. There were only two other people eating here, took 10 minutes for someone to come over to give me a water and take my order. Steak came out under cooked, was never asked how I liked it or even to get more water. I had to chase someone down for the bill. Steak was good, even undercooked. Service was horrible. This is embassy suites, I expect better.

Chicken Fried Sandwich

This hotel offers an excellent menu with Southern Cooking at its core. I ordered a fried. Chicken sandwich that my Grandma would be proud to say was her own. It was crispy, succulent perfection, and I savored every bite. This sandwich was accompanied a side of delicious sweet potato fries that brought this country fried masterpiece to a yummy conclusion. Although this grille is located in a hotel, it offers more than your average hotel fare. Another reason the Hampton Euro Suites rocks to the max.

Great experience. The food was great, customer service was on point. No complaints here. Order the pan seared scallops. Everything was fresh. Will be returning soon.

I can't tell you how their steaks were but I was thoroughly impressed with their double bacon burger. I often ask for ridiculous things like no bun, sauce on the side, etc. All of my wishes were met and the food was great. The only complaint was that the parties were small but at least there were two! Sweet potato wedges were delightful!

Overly salty scallops ($27) yikes!

Mmmm...I'm confused whether or not to give this places 2 or 3 stars. The service is great don't get me wrong, but the food...there needs to be improvement on the food. If you are staying in the Embassy Suites and need to grab a quick bite, I say it won't hurt coming here, but if you have the choice...go else where. Service: Perfectly fine! I've eaten here twice and both times the restaurant was almost empty, so the servers are very attentive. Baby Wedge Salad: Great starter and very filling. It also comes with breaded and roasted artichokes on the side which is a nice touch. The artichokes are usually fresh out of the oven/frier too so they are very hot. Not much to say about a salad. ($7) Burger: Mushroom, pickle, and cheese (I forgot what type of burger I ordered but it is not on the larger menu...it is on the paper menu at the front). Pretty solid burger, again, you can't really mess up a burger...but I think it was around $15 and I can easily get a good burger around here for $7. Scallops: $27 for one of the saltiest dishes of my life. No I am not being dramatic, it was inedible. Also, the risotto on the bottom was very mushy and not good at all. I was about to start dipping the scallops into my water to make it less salty, but then thought to myself "Karen, you are an adult now, you cannot be acting like this." SKIP IT. Please, do yourself a favor and do not order! Overall, I am sure there are some other good items on the menu that I have not ordered yet. Based on my two experiences, I wouldn't be back if it weren't for the convenience of being in the hotel.

This restaurant is located in the Embassy Suites next to the Hampton Convention Center. As I was in a training session at the convention center and as we were told that a lunch option available to us was the lunch buffet here for only $11.00 I figured why not? Pros: The lunch buffet had several hot entrees as well as a salad/soup bar and a dessert bar. The coconut pork loin was super tasty, as well as the jasmine rice and broccoli and carrots with cranberries. Chocolate cake was yum also and I never eat cake! The hotel as well as the restaurant were very clean. Cons: 1. The buffet set up is actually out in the lobby so you have to keep going in and out of the restaurant entrance to serve yourself. 2. As I approached the restaurant there was a counter with a lady behind it who was talking to someone as I took a picture of the restaurant logo on the wall for Yelp purposes. She said, "why are you taking a picture? Can I help you?" I said "no". I proceeded to find a table in the restaurant and put my things down and then went to check out the buffet. As I was walking I ran into one of my co-workers and asked her how it worked. She said, " you just take a plate and then when you're finished you pay". I'm like okay so I headed to the buffet and took a picture for Yelp purposes before I got my plate. Well wouldn't you know the lady from the counter was following me and came up to me and said, "why are you walking around taking pictures"? (What? It's a hotel for Pete's sake! I'm not permitted to walk around and take pictures)? I said, "really, what difference does it make? Why are you making a big deal out of it"? She said "Have you been seated yet, because I haven't seated you"? I said "yes I'm seated". Then she said "it's all about service, I'm here to serve you". No it wasn't. It was about her power trip, targeting me and singling me out as a suspicious person. NOT COOL! If she was the hostess she should have stated that from the start and if it was her job to seat people she should have said that too. Or how about a SIGN, gasp!, at the entrance to the restaurant that reads, "PLEASE WAIT TO BE SEATED BY THE HOSTESS"! Again that part of the experience was NOT COOL!

My husband and I were looking for a place to have breakfast on Sunday, which also happened to be Father's Day. We tried several popular spots(wait times were too long) before deciding on the Embassy Suites Cyprus Grill. There was no one in their restaurant but almost all the tables were dirty (dishes, etc) we must have just missed the rush, cool. We ordered drinks, I got a mimosa made with freshly squeezed oj, my husband got a Bloody Mary, they were good. Then our server CiCi brought us some danishes and a small fruit and cheese platter. We thought that was a nice touch. The decor was nice and I liked the music, an eclectic mix of 70s & 80s pop. I ordered the chicken n waffles with bourbon syrup and cheesy grits, it was delish! My husband ordered the pork belly Benedict, but he got crab cake Benedict, dang they were doing so well. He pointed it out to CiCi and she said she'd fix it, soon after she brought him the correct meal, he thought it was great. After our meals we ordered coffee it was fresh, hot, and delicious it hit the spot. We really enjoyed our experience here, we'll definitely be back!

Soup de jour - cream of potato with black pepper and arugula

Cyprus Grill, located inside of the Embassy Suites, serves its purpose as a hotel restaurant. The venue is simplistic, but tastefully elegant. Service here is excellent when I was here, even at 2215 - I'm really not sure when they do close. But I'm happy that the restaurant was open when I finally got to eat to dinner. I do remember the hostess being really friendly, even when I went back to my hotel room to grab my laptop to continue working, while waiting for my food to be made. Soup de jour - cream of potato with black pepper and arugula A blended soup of potato, pepper and other herbs. I didn't find the soup to be too rich with the cream - it seemed to have a perfect balance of viscosity and good texture. It was a great way of starting my late night meal. Basil Pesto Tagliatelle I wanted to eat vegetarian this night - and a plate of vegetables, pasta and a little bit of cheese fits the parameters. The vegetables were a little soft to my tastes - I tend to like my vegetables to have a bit more crunch to them, but overall, the meal was delicious. Crème Brûlée To be honest - it wasn't the best version of Crème Brûlée in my travels, but then again, I am dining at a hotel restaurant. I believe that the Crème Brûlée was made earlier in the day and it was brought out from the fridge. I would suggest trying the straight ice cream if looking for dessert. But overall, service here is excellent, and the food here is good, along with benefits being open late - Cyprus Grill fits the need of having an elegant and functional place to dine at a hotel when in this area of Virginia.

They were also out of the snake river Wagyu ribeye and strip steak. We were told they didn't receive a shipment of meat. The food was really good regardless of that, luckily they had three orders of lamb chops left so some of us ordered the rest of that. I like that when you order a steak it already comes with two sides. Other steakhouses you would have to order sides à la carte. The cocktails were amazing and service was great. Only thing that was a little weird was we had two birthdays and asked the manager if they happened to do a complimentary birthday dessert or something for the two birthday guest. He responded politely with we don't do any birthday desserts but you can order champagne since it's a celebration. Mind you it's a party of 12 and each couple's bill was at least 250+. Nonetheless, we had a great time and money was well spent, definitely worth trying out!

I had walked past this place over a dozen times, always thinking it seemed a bit expensive. I finally decided to try it and confirmed that the prices were indeed high, which can be perfectly acceptable if the food quality matches the cost. Unfortunately, it didn't. I ordered the burger because it was the least expensive entrée on the menu at $24. While it wasn't bad, it certainly didn't justify the price. I'm not completely certain, but I strongly suspect the patty had been previously frozen. The bun also felt like a standard packaged brioche bun rather than something fresh or house-made. My buddy ordered a steak that cost nearly $100, but it looked like it had been cooked in a pan with little care or attention to detail. Presentation and preparation simply didn't match the premium price point. But he was given a tray of fancy salts to use on the steak? We also tried a flight of their three Old Fashioneds, and each one missed the mark. The Black Forest Old Fashioned tasted more like a cherry-forward cocktail than a whiskey drink, and their house Old Fashioned, which included Grand Marnier, came across more like a soda than a balanced, spirit-forward cocktail. Overall, while the food and drinks were decent, they fell well short of justifying the high prices. At this price point, I expected significantly higher quality, attention to detail, and execution. The saving grace was the wonderful and kind staff that work there. They were knowledgeable about the menu and were able to help guide you through your decisions with patience, which I would expect at this kind of restaurant.

IDK, but we dined here with friends for NYE. I believe this spot is usually closed on Tuesdays, but opened the past two Tuesdays because of the holidays, I suppose. Nevertheless, I called about 5 days prior to Tuesday and secured a reservation for 6. We arrived at the time and were seated immediately. Our waitress, Alana (spelling) was attentive and super sweet. Overall, the guests were pleased with their meals. All except me :( I ordered the fish of the day, salmon over pasta. The salmon was severely under cooked. I returned it. They prepared the dish again, this time, scales were still on the bottom of my fish. Crazy :( I opted to not eat anything. So this night was a liquid dinner. I ordered a fresh margarita with my choice of tequila. Three margaritas later - it wasn't food, but the bartender was on point! And I was full of those drinks and a few celery stalks from my husband's wing app. I would definitely return and sit and bar. This explained why the bar was so packed all night. The drinks were bomb :) Parking, I only saw street parking. Not sure if other parking is available, but this was like our fifth time visiting this area of Hampton and parking has never been an issue. I went in by myself, and they told me I could sit wherever I wanted. Since I was one of the first people in there that day, the bartender/waitress greeted me with so much kindness. She went over some of the specials, and I ended up ordering the Rasta Pasta along with a drink--a Pineapple Upside Down (tea or lemonade, I can't quite remember). Whatever it was, it was delicioso. That drink was a 10/10--I'd go back just for that! When the pasta came out, it was served with garlic toast, and I also ordered some macaroni and cheese. The pasta was flavorful, and honestly, I've been thinking about going back for it again. The mac and cheese wasn't my favorite, but to be fair, I prefer baked, homemade macaroni & cheese--so that's just me, but it was good.
