Bait and switched to sign up, then repeated failures to process cancellations. I asked about all…read morethe amenities I saw online and when I came to see the facility and do a tour. I was told that a pool, sauna, red light therapy, and tanning were there at that location. I was also told there was a large womens area but it was being cleaned so I could not see them. I also asked abut childcare and was told it was there and kids up to 14 could be there. Childcare, pool, and a large womens areas were musts for me to have I told them. I signed up after only being shown the main workout areas Only as that is all I was allowed to see. Before signing up, I was told 1 free training session was included, but After I got my membership activated I was told all sessions were charged for and I could return to work out but could not do it right away. When I came for my first workout I was upset to find it has: * no pool * no red light therapy * no tanning * no large womens workout room (only a small one the size a a house bedroom with many woman cramped in there with very limited equipment to share). It was so dark it was hard to see and sometimes women stumbled on weights or items on the floor. The music was hit or miss with either pop or hard rap. Many times, the rap had explicit lyrics and references to killing or drugs and N-word being dropped which I did not care for. * the childcare was limited in capacity because only 1 person was working in it to watch all the kids in the room alone. He told me it fills up fast all the time due to this. *the main workout rooms are the only places you can ensure equipment is available, but you have no privacy I had to do a year of membership or I was told I would receive a cancellation fee and have to pay the remaining contract on a year long commitment for membership despite the fact everything I told them I needed they said they had they did not. After a year, I attempted a cancellation with their help but the cancellation did not take. They did it for me at their desk. We did it again 2 months later when I noticed I was still being charged for it. Again, it failed to cancel. Many months later, I figured that out. I finally got it to cancel when they had me do it as a kiosk, because they were not willing to help me with the cancellation process again, and I did it at different kiosks so the order to cancel had been made many times into their system. It was the only time the cancellation actually worked. This was the first gym I had attended after Gold's closed and it put me off trying another for a while. It was such an awful experience. I cannot recommend it.

I've been coming to this gym for almost a year now and still super happy with it. This gym caters…read moreto everyone; all shapes, sizes and experience levels. I've found everyone that I've encountered working out at this gym to be nice, helpful and nonjudgmental. The building itself is huge and even when the parking lot is full inside typically isn't too bad. Staff has always been very kind and helpful anytime I needed anything. They always have 1 or 2 people walking around wiping down equipment and tending to the trash cans. In my experience the gym has always been clean as well as the bathroom/sauna. Lockers are large enough to fit anything you would need to in them. The sauna has a television to help the time go by faster. Tons of free weights (which during busy times tend to be the busiest area), machines and cardio equipment. They even have a cardio theater that's full of machines to work out on while watching a movie. They have a calendar outside the theater to show you what movie will be playing each day which I found so cool. The gym is spread out and even when full you don't feel like people are on top of you. The gym offers a bunch of classes that look to be very popular. They also offer trainers which worked out great for me since I had never worked out before. I found the cost of training to be on par with other gyms. They also offer red light therapy as well as hydro massage chairs depending on your membership level. A Club Fitness membership gives you access to all their gyms in the Metro East which I believe is 19 of them. I pay 31.99 a month for the premium plan and that covers almost everything at the gym. The platinum plan is 39.99 and offers access to a few other rooms inside the gym. The biggest downside to this gym is that it gets crowded at peak times mostly due to it being the only nice gym in the immediate area. I love this gym and look forward to continuing my workout journey here.

Great for Programs - Gym Facilities Could Use Some TLC…read more I understand that the YMCA's strength lies in its community-centered programming, not just in being a gym--and in that regard, East Belleville YMCA does a great job. From what I observed during my trial membership, they offer excellent programming, especially for children--before and after school care and summer programs are clearly a strong focus, and it's great to see these important needs being met. My main reason for trying the Y was to evaluate whether the $49/month membership would meet my personal fitness needs, particularly in the gym/exercise area. I found a solid range of equipment available for most muscle groups, including multiple sets of free weights, squat racks, and a variety of dumbbells. The only muscle group missing dedicated support was for lateral raises. While the equipment is a bit dated, that's not necessarily a problem if it's well maintained. Unfortunately, some upkeep is needed. For example, several weight selector pins were rusted, making them difficult to use. A simple rust removal and lubrication would go a long way. I also noticed torn padding on some benches and machines, which could benefit from repair or replacement. Small improvements like these would greatly enhance the functionality and make the gym more competitive with traditional fitness centers. That said, the staff were friendly and welcoming, and the facility has a positive, community-oriented atmosphere. I'd recommend this YMCA to anyone looking for more than just a gym--particularly families and individuals interested in a wide range of programming and activities beyond fitness alone.
