Went for an inspection and failed, which is ok because I had to change my tires. Well, I was told that I could potentially have my bike back next business day and I wasn't told anything - I had to follow up myself and it ended up 4 business days. Ok, still, I picked it up in a cold weather with new tires and rode it back. Since the weather hasn't been the best I wasn't riding too much, my mistake was to not take photos of my rims before the tire change and after it I should have inspected it. Under my indoor garage light and when I picked my motorcycle up I didn't check it, to be honest - I trusted them. Check on the photos: both rims damaged, paint is out. According to them, the machine has rubber lockers and a plastic lip that doesn't touch the rims, so it is most probably riding damage - now please tell me how can that happen on both rims when I have crash protectors front, engine and back and a mudguard as well... On top of that, one employee was eating inside and walking + sitting around without wearing the mask (Oct 2020)... On a positive note, Ace was great though - his attention to detail and explaining was great when doing the inspection. The Service department though was another thing - unfortunately my first and last experience with them. Update 1: you are right the e-mails were as you said, twice in denial it was not your machine, most probably riding damage - there is no marking on the tire, I suspect it most probably has been some other cause. And yes, it was late when I noticed - my fault. Regarding the tires that were unavailable, I wasn't told that information on the day I left the motorcycle - that may have changed my mind if I had known. The incident about the mask being unworn happened in both of my visits, with and without food. I am in retail as well and it is simply professional to take these details into account. read more

I was in the market for a second bike and Cycle Therapy had the BMW F800R I had been looking around for. From the very first conversation I had with Ace, he was very polite and transparent about every detail involved if I were to purchase the bike from them. He was patient and answered all my questions and I appreciated that he was also direct and honest when he couldn't answer them. I had no prior experience dealing with Cycle Therapy and am happy to report that Ace honored the price that was advertised, with no B.S. and no sales pitch. The shop has many current up to date gear and models of helmets. I was super happy to get a brand new white Icon Airflite helmet that I had been eyeing for a while, to match the bike. I was surprised that the prices were as amazing as the lowest prices I had seen online. As for the vibe of the place, Chris, the service manager is a cool dude and I enjoyed chopping it up with him about bikes and food. Marcos is a wonderful and attentive sales associate who kept in communication about the face shield I had ordered. Unfortunately I had a less than desirable experience when selling my bike with Cycle Therapy on consignment. I was quoted by Ace a "clean cut" that as a seller I would receive following the completion of the sale, as well as $1,000+ of repairs that he called necessary to bring the bike in selling conditions. After promptly paying for all of the repairs upfront, Cycle Therapy proceeded to list the bike for $1,150 more than the "clean cut". After regularly paying several months of storage fees pending the sale, to my surprise after the successful sale Cycle Therapy withheld a previously undisclosed $500 commission, in addition to another $400 fee that was added "by mistake" and other additional unrelated "payment processing fees". Be aware - they are really trying to get you at every corner - and they will go the distance to extract as much $$$ as possible from your wallet. Edit: Coincidentally, in the otherwise very detailed written contract & work estimate that was provided to me upfront, there is absolutely no mention of the $900 commission that Rahav raised below. I'm S U P E R grateful for these guys!!! I was hit by a car and was told to be off my bike for THREE months. If you ride you know how treacherously long of a time that is!! Upon getting my bike back I went to a shop who put some parts on for me. They pointed out I had a coolant leak. Cool. I tried to get in contact with them on two separate days to get it fixed. No follow up although they said they would. I call the team at cycle therapy thinking I'd just buy some coolant and keep refilling it but not only did they offer me advice over the phone, but they gave me prices and everything as well. Not only were they OPEN during this COVID-19 pandemic, but they continued to help me out. They understand and heard my pain about not being on my bike and having to leave it. They worked SO fast and SO efficiently that they JUST called me to let me know my bike was taken care of even tho they predicted it'd be a week Now I have my peace of mind back...my baby and it's all thanks to them. Cycle therapy destroyed my motorcycle. I'm convinced they either have no idea what they're doing or they purposely sabotage vehicles in order to get you coming back or more repairs. They gave the bike back to me leaking fuel. So then the bike breaks down a week later because the fuel pump had been leaking slowly from when they had it and it finally wouldn't hold fuel. Then, I take it back to them, they sit on the bike for over a month and replace the fuel pump 6 weeks later. Now, I finally get my bike back and the fuel pump starts leaking a couple weeks later. They also disconnected my horn in the process. Now, the owner keeps trying to reply to my reviews, saying I'm not real. He doesn't want to admit that he either is an incompetent mechanic or a malicious business owner, breaking vehicles to get you to come back for more. Cycle Therapy is the worst motorcycle shop I've ever used and I'll never go back. read more

Just bought up an old HONDA ELITE scooter from Miami. Had what I thought was a minor issues , but was prepared to be hit with a bunch of other stuff. (Had tons of bad experience with unethical, incompetent mechanics in Miami.). Never happened at Cycle Therapy. These guys fixed the small issue and I was charged for just one hour of service. They even helped me select a a reasonably priced helmet fir me. Great, no -nonsense, upfront customer service. Fair prices. Took bike back for a small adjustment a couple of weeks later and they did it right away and at no charge. Chris is the man. read more

When all is said and done i spent $3000 on "maintenance" on top of a scooter that cost me $2000 that didnt last 1 year! You do the math!

Went for an inspection and left with a failed inspection and $1200 worth of estimate to get the bike up to code. My bike only cost me $2K to begin with. Issues included the brake light not working for the rear brake, bad suspension on front and rear, and engine leaks. Took the bike elsewhere and passed inspection after two minutes of fixing a loose wire connection for the brake light (for free). Was told by the second shop that the suspension issues were minor, but should be addressed in the near future. Not bad enough to fail, though. Estimate for that shop to fix them was less than 1/2 Cycle Therapy's estimate. Ended up fixing them myself for less than 1/4 the CT estimate. Parts alone cost me around $100. They wanted to charge $400 before labor. I can't even find the parts for more than $250 ANYWHERE online. OEM runs around $180-250, while other manufacturers have them for $85-150. Retail. Maybe I caught them at a bad time. Maybe they just aren't good with vintage bikes. My bike is a 1970 Triumph. Everything leaks. Probably has since day one. Probably always will. Either way, this place isn't for me. The location is convenient, but I won't be back. Maybe you'll have better luck. Don't be pressured into spending $1200 here for a $6 inspection sticker. At least get a second opinion! read more

The staff is friendly and they explain everything in detail. They are so much better than other dealerships that would inspect your bike in 10 minutes. Inspecting your bike here takes 45 minutes and it's only 6 bucks. Enough time to look around and buy something inside the store I suppose or for them to fine something they could change to get you to spend money . Like they said they're following dmv protocols and checking for your safety. Honda, Harley, and all the other local shops don't do that. But I wouldn't know I went to a shop 4 mins away from there. I have had amazing experiences with this motoshop, and its the ONLY place i currently take my bike. I started off with an 2002 suzuki bandit gsf600s - a pretty outdated bike that was in rough condition. I took it to these guys and they had no problem fixing it up for me. Replaced fairings, front fender, and fixed all the electrical issues i had (back brake wasnt working), all for super cheap, which was a god send because i dont make a lot of money. Super clear communication, specifically chris, which is the guy i bug for everything - is super clear, super nice, and always has answers for what i need to know. He is my favorite. That bike rode amazing with no issues at all for the entire riding season after they patched it up. Was in good enough condition for me to quickly sell during the winter too, which brings me to my current bike I bought a 2007 Suzuki sv1000s, that had been sitting for 2 years straight. It had idling problems/rpm problems, along with power issues. Took it in, within the first conversation i had, before it was even checked, was told it sounded like the spark plugs had gone bad, which ended up being the issue exactly - to give you an idea of how good these guys are. Next(and current problem) is that my charging system has gone bad, which turns out to be a known problem with this bike series. So far, communication has been super clear, letting me know exactly what needs to get done and when, along with giving me a price so i know what i have to work with - again with chris being extremely consistent in his help. It is really expensive as of now, because the parts im getting are OEM, which is inherently more expensive - and as i said before, because i dont make a lot of money, they allowed me to actually do a multi-week payment plan that was agreed upon, just showing more how kind these guys are. the only thing i wish is if they had like a loyal customer system with rewards or the like, ive taken my bikes to them about 6 times now and i wouldve loved to get like a pair of gloves or something 10/10 i cannot recommend this shop enough read more

These guys are skilled, truthful and dependable. And they are open six days a week and located in Manhattan. Chris in service is great to work with. he's friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. I brought my bike in for what I thought would be a new starter or alternator. Turns. out the battery was just "really really drained" Most other shops would have found a way to charge me for a part I didn't need, but these guys told me the truth and I was out with very little expense, and most of all a piece of mind. now since these guys are so good, they can get backed up..especially early in the season or around major holidays so be mindful of that. They work on all bikes from Japanese to BMW to Italian. Their showroom is all the way up in God's country in Manhattan and a good 30 mins from most places in Manhattan but what's why God created Lyft ride share or Via--though via only goes to 125th st. It's rare to see businesses with values like these guys have and I applaud them for this. read more

The CT team did their best to get my Vespa tire replaced despite general delays caused by COVID-19. When one vendor couldn't get the tire to the store in a reasonable time, the parts department were able to get a tire from a different vendor in a shorter time period. I wish I had read these reviews before taking my bike here for an inspection two days ago. I thought I'd save myself some time by going to this nearby shop. Instead, they made me wait for over an hour (I was told no more than 30 minutes) and then failed the bike. The guy there immediately offered to repair the failure point- my brakes. I take extremely good and regular care of my bike. It smelled like a scam and, it turns out, it was a scam. An ongoing scam, apparently, from reading these other reviews. It cost me $6 (he said they don't return fees for failures though apparently other shops do) and, even worse, a total of two wasted hours. Very happy to have trusted my instincts on this one. I brought the bike in today to my regular place and it passed, no problems. STAY AWAY. read more

Total scam. I went in to get my inspection done on a new bike and somehow left with a 500$ bill and a bike that according to them "wouldn't pass inspection". They're out to take your money. Guy charged me 5$ for one fuse. He's asking 250 for a tire swap. I wouldn't buy the tires from him (he was asking 600$ and they were less than 200 for the pair on line) so he up charged the install fee. There is this guy always working the sales floor. Not the brightest in the world and always pushing an over priced sale. This place sucks. Avoid at all cost. Update: they replied to my complaint. Further evidence how dishonest this company is. This is the shop to go too to pay premium prices for prem Update: went back with another bike for a quick inspection, this time the owner or at least the guy in charge handled it. Again, guy came up with some crazy reasons why the bike didn't pass inspection. Was charging me crazy rates for simple repairs. Wanted 200$ just to remove the back tire from the bike. Not the rim or anything difficult, literally 200$ to remove a few bolts. They use inspection as a method to bring in business for themselves. Especially the owner, guy is definitely full of it. Tech called him back to point out exactly what he claimed needed repair because the tech couldn't find anything wrong. The main tech guy is great, smart and very helpful. It's obvious it's just the way management runs business, trying to pay off their months rent with one tire change. Don't waste your time with this shop unless you literally want to spend double. I found cycle therapy purely by accident. I work at Mt. Sinai and had passed my MSF course in September and of course was itching to get a motorcycle. I came to these guys around Halloween given the close proximity to my job. It was after work so probably closer to 6pm. I met Ace and he was incredibly helpful even at such late hour. He spent around 90 minutes with me and had me try a few bikes. I initially settled on a Ducati, but my wife had a say about that! and made me look for something cheaper and with less maintenance concerns. They offer a generous layaway program, which was great since we were going into the winter. Over the next few months I continued making payments with the intent to have the bike out March 30. Well, Covid-19 struck and that plan went south given the DMV was shutdown due to the governor's pause order. Initially I was pretty bummed out since Ace told me the DMV had stopped issuing plates. As you know, this being NYC and all no plates sounded like a NYPD/Towing disaster waiting to happen. Ace and his team waived the storage fee for April and we took a wait and see approach. In mid April Ace informed me that the state had begun to issue plates, although slowly since the DMV was working with a reduced staff. We were able to schedule the delivery keeping in mind social distancing. Throughout the process Ace and his team were informative, courteous and very matter of fact. I appreciate an honest, no nonsense approach as a native new yorker and new motorcyclist so this was welcomed. There seems to be two threads to the number of low star reviews on yelp, inspections and pricing. My experience for both is the following: Inspections. I do not know how this will play out next year, although I purchased the bike from them so I assume it should be fairly smooth as opposed to bringing a bike that was not purchased from them. As a new motorcyclist I can't speak to inspections but as a car guy who has owned a car in NYC for over a decade, inspections can be done with care or assembly line style with little care. I assume these guys know bikes (and they do) so they take safety into consideration when issuing an inspection as opposed to blindly giving them out. I get this can be annoying for some who want a jiffy lube style experience since it can add costs pretty quickly. Pricing. Car/engine/motorcycle stuff can always be expensive and labor costs are always an issue. Motorcycling in particular is more of a hobby than a necessity so I assume that most repairs come with an added tax of fun toy stuff versus I need this to live. Gone are the days of the 80's when your local mechanic did work for 20 bucks and a six pack. I remember my uncle in 1989 getting his cutlass supreme fixed for like 50 bucks. In general mechanical stuff just costs more now. I've had car repairs that with a little youtube knowledge and some after market parts I could've done on a Saturday afternoon at a fraction of the cost. I let the dealer do it because it was the path of leas resistance and they would give warranty to the repair. Do I think Cycle therapy is expensive? to answer that question I would ask myself; do I think New York city is expensive. Do I think a massive 3 story building with a parking lot in prime real estate Harlem is expensive to rent? the answer is their prices are probably what they need to be to turn a profit. This is clearly a small business (deemed essential during this crisis, and no I'm sure they're not getting hazard pay from the state) and like any small business in Manhattan(and really, all of NYC) they have to compete pretty hard to turn a profit while covering salaries and what I am sure amounts to very very expensive rent (some of these buildings in Harlem want 25k a month. Think about that. That's a ton of tune ups and tires a day to just cover that). It ain't like the bikes are flying out of the showroom either, specially with COVID-19. So do I think the prices are expensive, yeah they are high, at least to me as a new Motorcyclist they seemed high. Higher than a private sale from someone on craigslist, but you're getting a product backed by a small business (the real job creators) and I take satisfaction knowing my money is helping the local economy. Again, 6-8 months from now when the bike needs something will I feel this way? yes because small businesses in New York City are quickly disappearing. Specially in Manhattan. And because this is a fun hobby and not something that is a need for my survival. Other areas of the city have dealers. Queens has a ton of Motorcycle dealers but they are affiliated to the big names (Harley D, Honda, etc) but Cycle therapy is an actual bonafide motorcycle shop with no affiliation and that seems rare. In closing, Ace and his team have been wonderful throughout the process, specially with all of the COVID restrictions. They are authentic not fake and no nonsense all the way. The service manager was very unhelpful, no sense of urgency. They wanted to charge for very minor repairs with it. The location is very hard to find. My bike was sitting in my garage for 8 years with out draining the gas or anything. I knew this meant a complete tear down and rebuild (which is what I asked for). When it comes down to it, Cycle Therapy is a very popular shop. Their customer service guy "Chris" does his best to keep everyone happy. Due to location and popularity, this shop gets them very busy and is perhaps understaffed for their workload (especially in the repair department). Your bike may be there for a while. Be very specific about the work you want. While they do their best to save you money, that can lead to other issues down the road. Make sure you hold them to the full scope of the repairs requested. They try hard but be very specific and let them know if cost is no problem. I have a bike I'm attached to (for sentimental reasons) and it was difficult for them to understand that I wanted my 20yr old gem to run like new. I asked them to take it apart and replace everything that might fail. They didn't understand the value of the bike to me and instead only replaced what had failed. (Perhaps this was also because of how busy they are. No way to know). I would have paid twice the sticker price to have my bike new again. Because of this, I had to keep bringing the bike back time and time again. Very frustrating for me. Months of missed riding. Nice enough folks who try hard but they weren't able to come through for me in particular. Best of luck read more

Bought my first Motorcycle from them and they couldn't have made it easier. Took care of plates and registration, hooked me up with an insurance broker, and a week after my purchase, I rode away with everything taken care of (Ace even threw in a little lesson) . I rode away very grateful. All in (taxes, plates, reg, etc...) I spent just under $3000 for an 86 Honda Shadow 750. Maybe that's high, but it's what I had budgeted, and I got everything I was looking for. I went in understanding that with an older moto I was going to have to fix things along the way. However I didn't expect to have to spend another $1000 dollars within 2 months and 3 tows because I was having charging problems. I had to replace the stator twice, and a regulator. 1 of those times, the thing blew up on me in the middle of the GWB, and I had to walk the bike over at night. One of the more scary experiences I've ever had. Ace told me "you're lucky it didn't catch on fire" because of how bad the wire was fried. Being brand new to this, I didn't have the knowledge or confidence to fix it myself. But also having just been sold a "solid" used moto, I thought Cycle Therapy would have taken a little more responsibility. I was apparently given a discount, but it didn't seem like it. For this reason I take away a star, but I will say that since the last fix, I've had no problems, and it starts the first time every time. I promised Ace I would give the shop a review, but I've waited to write one because I didn't want to review out of anger. Solid shop, solid crew.
