Can not over emphasize how great this company, and Tom in particular is. Our home sentry safe would not open despite having the key and proper code and the lights on indicating battery power. I called in a bit of a panic because I had an early flight the next morning and needed my passport. Tom listened to my issue, asked some clarifying questions and said he would talk to their experts and call me back later that afternoon. This is when I mentioned my time constraint. He called back within 15 minutes and suggested to replace the batteries even thought the lights were lit. That simple fix did it!!! I had an unfortunate accident when my only car key fob got soaked while I was kayaking on a Friday afternoon, rendering my vehicle useless. Amazon and YouTube to the rescue for a temporary fix, almost. Turns out that the video tutorial of taking apart a key fob didn't work like my real life experience. I accidentally beat the snot out of my replacement fob & violently got the key blade out of my original fob. Long story short, I Frankensteined together a working fob and was able to drive to the locksmith. Steve and Brian were the best!! They congratulated me on getting the new fob to actually work, and put the thing back together nicer than what I did. They cut 2 new blades for me so I will soon have 3 working fobs (the Frankensteined one will live in my safe lol). They were so nice, professional, and fairly priced. Great place, we are lucky to have something so good locally. I had to get 2 keys made for my minivan (has a bunch of fancy remote features and a hidden key), and my car. While it was good that I got a quick appointment and the work was done satisfactory, it cost me $600 to replace the lock on my front door. I would have NEVER thought to get an estimate on locksmith work. When quoted 169 or 179 just to come out, I should have known as that seemed high to me. So $225 labor and the lock cost $375! This is a review based on very limited experience. I just moved back to the area and needed some keys made. I was stunned to find that it cost over $13 to have three keys copied. In Manhattan they would've cost me half that much. I cannot understand why a company like this would need to charge so much for keys. I'm all for supporting local businesses, and yes it's only a few dollars per key, but the prices are 2-3 times what I would've paid at a place like Home Depot, and even in, again, Manhattan. Of the three keys I had made one was made wrong. The wrong blank was used so the key would not even fit into the lock. I haven't been able to get back to exchange the key yet but hope there won't be a problem with getting a new one to replace it. read more

This company is the very best. They employ "locksmiths", not clerks who run a computerized key cutter. I had two commercial doors installed by NJ Door Works, Hillside NJ. They were not cheap and when one of the locks failed within a short time of installation, they wanted a substantial amount to repair the lock. I had to prepay the $280 in advance before they would even have the tech call me and then when I asked him to make me a key for the door i was told it was $35 on top of the $280 I paid FOR 5 MINUTES!!! I came to Cy Drake's after searching all over NJ for a place that could cut laser cut (security cut) keys. The ones where they retain their rectangular shape while being cut for the ignition switch. They were the only people I could find, outside a dealership; who could do such a thing - and I drove about 20 minutes to have them do so. I brought them a blank and they simply cut it for me. They did warn me, they couldn't program the key chip; I still had to do that at the dealer. The cost was reasonable, and they were very courteous during the process. Thanks Guys! I bought a security key on ebay for a Subaru Outback that required laser cutting. They typically don't cut customer supplied keys but after some assurance that I didn't need any warrantee, my in-laws dropped in with my original and blank key. They were VERY helpful and fair on price. I still needed to get the transponder chip programmed. They gave me a recommendation but I used google and wound up using the chip out of the valet key and replaces it into my new fob key. I saved some money over the dealer and found a great locksmith. The garage door lock, a simple lock, was missing a key. I removed the lock, and the lock cylinder, and took it to Cy Drake to have a new key made. I have used Cy before, and was pleased with their service. However, after quoting me a price for a new key, they asked me to leave the lock cylinder. When I asked how long would it take, they refused to give me an estimate. When I asked how much would a second key cost, they wouldn't give me answer. I took them a broken car key/shell...along with a new blank key for them to cut (instead of going to dealer). They cut my blank for $70 and told me it was guaranteed. It didnt work. They didnt have a blank in stock to fit my car...it was just bit long...said they'd have the right one in the next day and I'd have to come back....I came back a couple weeks later (they told me on the phone they had the blank in) and they only had the longer version....so they tried cutting that. In the process, the guy told me that the shell and the blade are actually two pieces. He didnt say that all i really needed was to buy a new shell since the original blade was fine. Anyway, he cuts the new blade and its works and he charges me another $70 and says they dont guarantee when cutting customer-supplied blades. Quick $70 profit for them I guess. I didnt bother to argue...clearly they need the $ more than me. I just checked online and can buy the shell (the part that was actually broken) for $3....so, rather than sell me the $3 part I needed, they charged me over $140 to cut two key blanks. I guess that's good for short-term profit but not as helpful to me....I wasted $$ and a couple hours with them. Next. read more

Cy Drake locksmiths botched making a copy of my car key, and blamed it on poor quality of metal, "must be made in China". Then, they tried to sell me a new key fob for high price in addition to a high programming charge. Only when I asked why not replace the metal part, they told me that it could be done but it would cost me, even though they made a mistake. DON'T GO THERE. Instead, I recommend Anchor Ace Hardware in Denville for Automotive keys. I got a new metal key installed in the key fob I got online and they programed the key fob, quickly and for much less. Great small business. I picked up an old Audi TT to restore. I needed a new key fob. Only came with one. The internet has a ton of conflicting information. All I knew is if I went to a dealership it would cost a small fortune for a new key. I called and spoke to Brian. He found the right fob, explained my options, and ultimately got me a new operable key fob for considerably less than s dealership.
