I've lived a 2 minute walk from here my whole life. I know the employees closely. Maria is a hardworking angel of a mother. Ramona always makes me smile. I could go on and on about the other employees as well. I forget her name sadly, but the beautiful woman who runs the beauty department is so on top of her section. Not only can she recommend anything from hair care to nail polish to makeup and skincare, but she can customize it to how you look. It's obvious she knows her stuff because she always looks flawless. If you ask her where a certain brand went, she knows the exact reasons and timeline. If you ask when something will be restocked, or anything about a new brand they've started carrying, she'll tell you with excitement. She'll help you find good shades for the undertones in your skin, and if you ask her about a product that she knows underperforms, she won't hesitate to recommend something else instead. They've recently hired some newer and younger employees, and they're so sweet and helpful. If they don't know the answer to the question, they confidently and kindly say they'll bring over someone who can answer and will be back shortly. And the pharmacy... Oh that pharmacy. They know how it is, especially for women, with insurance in America. They will spend time calling all over and talking with insurance to get you what you need. I've had my insurance say I can't get a renewal of my birth control for another two weeks, which is wrong, and the woman on the phone overrides it by talking to insurance for me and it's ready the next day. If you aren't sure which first aid item, or vitamin, eye drops etc you should buy, head over to the pharmacist window and she'll help you out immediately. It's truly an amazing store. The management. Pharmacists and cashiers are wonderful. Commonly prescribed medications are understocked, pharmacy is understaffed. It is inconceivable that such an vit department as pharmacy is closed midday. Phone help requires at least a half hour wait. The app has flaws. Again, staff is very good. read more

I'm very displeased with the service at CVS Pharmacy in Upper Montclair. I have a prescription that I pick up every three months. Every time I come here there seems to be an issue. I came the other day to pick up an order that I received notification for that had been refilled. Upon arriving, the clerk told me that it was not in stock and that my doctor had not answered the phone when they called. This was a lie because while in the store, I called my doctor (who is VERY punctual) and they said they never received a call. Okay, I'll let that one slide. After talking to my doctor, they tell me it will be there tomorrow. The next day comes and I call over the phone to be sure that the order would be ready. The woman I spoke to named told me that it was again not ready and that it would be ready the following day. I receive a voicemail telling me that the prescription was ready, so I again went to come pick up my prescription. Once I arrive, the guy at the register tells me it's not ready and that someone called me and left me a voicemail telling me not to come. I clearly played the voicemail for him to show the automatic VM said my prescription was ready, and showed him the text message that was also sent to me asking me to come pick it up. I still don't have my prescription and I'm going to be making another corporate complaint. This place is a joke and the employees here need to learn some new customer service skills. read more

This review is a reflection of the pharmacy. The store itself is fine, the non-pharmacy employees are nice. I would wholeheartedly recommend Grove Pharmacy, which is admittedly not in walking distance of the Upper Montclair CVS. Maybe the other CVS's in Montclair are better, but this one is utterly abysmal. CVS Pharmacy repeatedly fails to tell me my medication needs prior authorization. This leaves me with no medication the day of, and having to do somebody else's job in figuring out why it wasn't done. This is at least the second time I've asked why wasn't I notified my medication needs prior authorization and I once again was not given a coherent answer. I got a discount coupon offered on Monday; It wasn't until I called on a Saturday to check the status. I then get a follow-up text saying they're contacting my doctor--again, on a Saturday, when my doctor's practice is closed. I don't believe the pharmacist when she says she initially tried to contact the doctor's office Thursday but apparently "resent" this claim on Saturday (Why, then, did I get a text on Saturday saying my prescription needs doctor approval but not on Thursday?). I ended up having to pay the copay and file a reimbursement claim because of it. Stay away. read more

This is a fine CVS. I've come here for years and they are always stocked etc. I have found the employees to be very nice. The Pharmacists are terrific, and I often would come out here from NYC when I was traveling to third world countries alot and needed lots of different things from malaria to cipro to travel with. They spend time talking to you about potential side effects and make sure nothing will react with anything else. The parking lot is not terrific though. read more

If this pharmacy hadn't made 3 serious mistakes on separate occasions, filling the wrong Rx and/or giving me the wrong amount of tablets, maybe I could forgive it. But the service is slow, and extremely rude, the higher up you go, so that the pharmacists are unpleasant and should be replaced. I'm less than a mile from this store and refuse to use its pharmacy. The rest of the store's personnel and merchandise is fine. If you go, rip open the bag and check the contents for accuracy in front of them, because when they make a mistake, they don't admit it and there's no returns or refunds. So you have to show the mistake to them immediately. read more

Completely surprised by the unprofessionalism of this location. I live in the area and have recently had surgery and therefore am in need of several prescriptions. They have (1) not filled prescriptions that the doctor has called in (2) not notified me of prescriptions that I am in need of (Blood thinner injections) that they do not have (3) Not had prescriptions ready after I have received confirmation texts. I don't know what to say other than this is not the service I would expect of a pharmacy - especially in Upper Montclair. I will definitely be taking my business elsewhere. I have repeatedly had drama with this CVS branch, especially their pharmacy. The shelves are frequently low on inventory, especially items that I went to purchase specifically because of a sale. They never seem to have enough people at the cash registers when wanting to check out, which leads to an awkward formed line building up. A majority of my experiences have been with the pharmacy and their inability to fill to my all 3 of my prescriptions in a timely manner and have them all ready at the same time. There always seems to be a problem where they don't have at least one of them in stock, forcing me to drive to another CVS or wait an additional 1-3 days. The pharmacists there are generally nice and have good intentions, but that only gets them so far. If looking for a pharmacy, go elsewhere. read more

Serves a general purpose. But overall DISLIKE. Customer service is iffy, sometimes they are pleasant enough to say "hello" at the register, other times they are straight nasty. Usually out of basic/necessary crap, like multivitamins (this is a pharmacy, and drug store, correct?) or like every shade of make-up, except for the ones that have been pre-opened and probably "sampled" by the local teenage girls/delinquents. Have been here many times to pick up prescriptions and other items. Excellent staff, easy parking well organized.

I like this CVS, its location is great and parking isn't bad either. It's pretty clean and organized and people who work there are very nice too. They often go out of their way to apply some coupons to my order so I can pay less :) They put products on sale once in a while so I always find something I need for less. I really like their make up selection and they host a make up event every couple of weeks. I never got a chance to go, but will definitely try next time they send me an email invite. I wish they were open 24/7 and their card selection was wider. It might seem like they have a lot, but once you stand there trying to find the right one - you really have a hard time doing so. I tried finding a funny bday card for my boss, friends and a romantic bday card for fiance, but each time I ended up going to a different CVS because they all were either not funny or ugly :) read more

The service and professionalism at CVS has dramatically worsened in the five years that I have been using it. There are very long wait times to speak with the pharmacy staff by phone or in person. They never seem to be well stocked even for medications that I refill every three months. I called recently to follow up on a new prescription that my doctor called in. After being on hold for more than 10 minutes, for more than 5 minutes the pharmacist told me no such prescription existed even though I received a text message from CVS stating that additional insurance information was required from me. She kept insisting that my prescription was at another pharmacy but couldn't tell me which one. After placing me on hold again for 5 minutes, she claimed that she found my prescription. When I tried to provide the insurance information for the prescription, the pharmacist initially refused to take the information, telling me she was "backed up and had other patients to take care of" and it would be "easier for me if you brought in the insurance information and waited in the waiting room for about 20 minutes." I advised her that I was also a patient who was ill and could not sit in a waiting room for 20 minutes. She begrudgingly took the insurance information over the phone and kept claiming it was rejected, which wasn't possible because it was a co-pay card from the drug manufacturer. She then told me that the cost would be $1,000 and she tried her best but she was "backed up and had other patients to attend to." My doctor called Benzer Pharmacy and the same medication, with the same co-pay card resulted in a cost of about $200, and the pharmacist at Benzer provided me with information on how to reduce my cost to $0 for the refill. My recommendation, if you need a prescription filled, go to Benzer or another local pharmacy. Avoid CVS at all costs! read more
