Worse yet: the very young nurse practitioner already made up her mind that antibiotics were a no go before the formal request. (During intake, the person doing vitals asked what the problem was and stated antibiotics weren't prescribed unless symptoms were significantly worse and for longer. Should have walked out then.) Did you know the rate for meningitis goes up if you let strep linger for longer? Antibiotics awareness You may have used antibiotics to treat sinus issues in the past. But they can't help with viral infections. And since overuse of antibiotics can the cause drugs to be less useful over time, providers only prescribe them when necessary. You can find out more about antibiotic resistance at CDC.gov" Be your own advocate. And don't expect new medical professionals to deviate from policy when everyone alive understands that at time there's a difference in policy and reality and you can still respect both.
