Kroger's the busiest grocery store in town (there are only two as of right now, but Super…read moreWal-Mart's on its way), so don't expect a close parking space, especially when there's even a hint of impending snow or ice. Thankfully, there are usually plenty of aisles open and there are also self-checkouts for quick errands. Also, don't expect to find any super exotic ingredients; this is Connersville, people. They have a few select fresh herbs and some variety of cheeses, but the veggie selection doesn't get much wilder than bok choy and they don't have a meat counter to speak of. I suggest you start Googling substitutes for anything that might be out of the ordinary in one of your recipes... or head to Meijer in Richmond. Speaking of meat counters, this place runs out of chicken all the time. I go there to pick up some boneless/skinless breast tenderloins and that section is always cleaned the heck out, leaving me with nothing but some sad-looking thighs and gizzards to choose from. But it's a relatively clean store, the aisles are relatively wide, and the staff is relatively friendly. I also use their pharmacy due to its $4 generic prescription program and the proximity to home. I just hope it'll survive in the wake of Super Wal-Mart, because I hate that place with a fiery passion.

Last Saturday, I thought it a bit strange to leave the two basketball games and find that the place was closed at 9:00 p.m. Wouldn't people want to order pizza after a game? Tonight, there was only one game and I arrived at 7:30. Everyone working there was friendly. As they were mopping, I thought that they were closing early, even though it said 9:00 p.m. for closing. I ordered a mini pizza with "The Works" and the clerk told me that it would be 6 minutes and asked if that was still okay. I usually wait at least 10 minutes for pizza elsewhere. They didn't ask me to pay until the pizza was done. The price wasn't bad but I had hoped for some pizza + drink special which they didn't have--something other Noble Roman kiosks have. The pizza was good and the ingredients were sufficient. I'll return more than a few times. The Mountain Dew didn't have any funny flavor and the mix was good. I didn't really notice a lot of their prices but they were consistent with a convenience store. Update: They've changed the pizza and it is worse. I took the pizza to the counter to talk to the person working there because it doesn't look anything like The Works pizzas I've had--other than being circular with a crust--and I was told that some of the ingredients were under the cheese now. I was told that they're not buying green peppers any longer. It didn't taste right, so unless I'm having a strong desire for that pizza, I won't return. They're still friendly and helpful but it's just another convenience store now.

They're clean with tons of stalls and a cool rustic vibe. They do a great job knowing why someone might stop here. It's quick in, but (admittedly) a slower "out" as I usually end up shopping and finding neat stuff. You're probably going to walk away with something you want here too. It's a seasonal megastore every time we come here. During Christmas months, tons of Christmas. During fall, lots of autumn. During Spring, Easter, etc. You get it. It's not just the crap you see at big box stores; it's the special-ordered decoration places, feeling more like a huge Hallmark (if you remember those from the malls!) than just a bunch of stuff you've seen 30 times before. If you're not a decorator, they also have a decent selection of small business food (soup starters, seasoning packets for meats, etc.) and local craft beers (you can buy single cans!) to choose from. They ALSO, as the giant candle would imply, have tons of candles. Oddly enough, we rarely buy candles here - though they have a huge selection. We're usually much-more-distracted by everything else. There's also a fresh/homemade candy/fudge counter, and I *think* there's a coffee/cafe in the next-door building as well. They also sell outdoor decor? Some pretty neat stuff too. It's a really cool stop, and if you need to stop, it's well-worth stopping here over any of the nearby gas stations.

For families searching for an assisted living facility in Richmond, I highly recommend Arbor Trace. My story began when my sister and I were looking for a place for our parents--one that would allow some independence while also permitting them to bring their beloved cat. After visiting several locations, we chose Arbor Trace. Our father had been on the rehab side a few years prior, and we remembered his positive experience. Fast forward to a time when my father needed to be moved to the rehab side due to a medical issue. This allowed my mother to easily walk over and visit him without leaving the building. More recently, when my mother collapsed and we made the decision to place her on hospice care, the incredible nursing and support staff at Arbor Trace agreed to let her return to her "home" in assisted living for her final weeks. This allowed my father to stay by her side, and it gave me the privilege of spending those precious days with her in her apartment. The care from the nurses, nursing assistants, dietary staff, housekeeping--truly everyone--was exemplary. While staffing shortages are a challenge across all healthcare settings, I wish I could wave a magic wand to ensure that every staff member is paid well and given the support they need to provide the best possible care. Despite these challenges, the staff at Arbor Trace in Richmond provided extraordinary compassion and professionalism during a difficult time for our family. Thank you for everything. He told us that if he ever needed to be somewhere if he was unable to care for himself, it would be at Arbor Trace. Fortunately, there was a temporary respite room open. The entire staff at Arbor Trace treated our father as if he was their own father. He was able to receive the right therapy's so he could relearn how to communicate with us and how to care for himself. Excellent rehab staff. Putting a loved family member into Assisted Living is not easy for anyone to do. The staff worked as a team with all of us. We cannot thank the Arbor Trace staff enough for the care and respect they showed our father and our family during this difficult time of transition.

It is a huge bank of rollers, almost every one of them full of rotating meat.
