    Donuts

I know that toys can only select three categories for a business. However, it just makes me sad that when you search donuts in Richmond, Indiana that it doesn't pop up Meijer. I have to buy lots of donuts for meetings for work, and they are awesome about being able to call the evening before an order 10 dozen at a time. They take pride in their job, they stack them carefully so the icing doesn't mess up, and they are all so beautifully decorated. The flavor and selection is out of this world!

I go to Meijer every few weeks. I find things there that I can't find at Kroger, which is closer to me. I get a lot of groceries there, so get a quite a bit to o stock up on. I also have M Perks, so I spend quite a bit, and every so often I earned rewards, which I use on future purchases. I also get coupons in the mail for items I purchase, so there are big savings there. I save a lot of money at Meijer.

The Head of the department refused my purchase because I had given the sales person a tube of what I needed and she was so dumb she couldn't find the item. I had to go find the item for her then when I wanted my tube back, she claimed she couldn't find it so I said well is she stealing my tube? It took them an hour and a half looking through security cameras, and I kept saying just go look behind the counter and they would not look! So finally, I just went and walked behind the counter myself and there it was sitting right as I said it would be! I believe she was trying to steal it from me and then when I prove this they refused to allow me to make my purchases! I had to call Dillards in other cities, explain how I was treated and then they honored the sale. Worst part about it is she was a Latino woman dressed to look like exactly Kristie Noem secretary of Homeland security in a camo baseball hat. And this is a dept mgr? Wearing a camo baseball cap to work! That is disgustingly! Dillard's services is supposed to be to a high end clientele with those prices, so stop giving ghetto service! No wonder malls are going broke! They turn down sales! This was reverse discrimination. I'm old while lady. She is young Latina! And this is the third or fourth time I've had the same problem in the same store where I am discriminated against by Latina sales people. My proof is the black security officer comes and tells me every single time what they said and did to you is not right! They aren't treating you right in this store and you shouldn't be treated like this, why do you shop here?!!! So the black and the white person is together against the way the Latina sales ppl are treating the customers? This is disgusting ppl.

I love my Yelp community here in Indy. Awesome people and they showed up in a big way during my late 2019 hospitalization that ended up leading to amputation of my upper left leg. I like to think that I'm certainly a nice guy. I'm positive. I'm upbeat. I'm an encourager. While I sure didn't think I'd win "Complimenter of the Year," I must admit that I really love giving compliments. But, I have to confess. I'm also a bit of a weirdo. Seriously. Just ask the local Yelpers. I'm socially awkward, a serious introvert, and have a dark, dark sense of humor. I also have spina bifida. I'm a paraplegic, double amputee (above knee on left leg, below knee on right). I have scoliosis, so I have this curved spine and am so short I kind of look like a snail on wheels. Hey, I'm just being honest. Despite my self-deprecating ways (You'd probably caught on, eh?), I'm pretty darn comfy the way I am and have a lot of fun with it - usually at someone else's expense. For a long time, I loved visiting Foot Lockers and asking them if they had my feet. They never did. I actually did this at quite a few shoe stores. Well, I attended seminary in Richmond, Indiana (I know, weird. The church needs more goofballs). My fellow seminarians never believed me when I told them I liked to go to shoe stores and try on shoes. Again, I have no feet. So, one night after a particularly hard intensive a small group of us headed over to Richmond's Dillard's. We don't have Dillard's here in Indy (that I'm aware of) and we enjoyed shopping. Of course, we stopped in the shoe department and an incredibly sweet, unsuspecting sales person was left aghast when I started trying on shoes including high heels. Why not? The truth is, however, that this sales person ended up being so incredibly kind and generous that I ended up spending far more at Dillard's than I would have because I was so impressed with her service. I didn't buy any shoes, though. Dillard's is about the best store in the Richmond area that falls into the "department store" category. It's not fantastic, but it's consistently good and they're service on this occasion and subsequent occasions has always been super strong. They offer clothing (men, women, juniors, children), handbags, jewelry, accessories, lingerie, home goods and, of course, shoes. The prices aren't too bad. It's located in Richmond Mall, is fairly accessible and, of course, they tolerate weirdos in wheelchairs exploring the world of shoes despite not having any feet. I'm not sure I'd call it a destination store, but if you're in the Richmond area it's definitely worth stopping in.

The girl was obviously struggling and instead of teaching her the older lady raised her voice and told her she can't use that printer and that it was the wrong one, the girl calmly replied where she got it from and the older lady looked at her for a moment and continued to be agressive and rude stating she had to use her own printer (or something along those lines.) The line was busy enough that the other costumer getting checked out by the young girl told her she was doing a great job and some people should just be nicer to their coworkers and I totally agree. If this is what your employee treats others like in front of costumer I can't imagine what she does when no one's around. Coming from another retail associate I know what being looked down upon feels like just because older people think they have more authority than you and it's sad to see. Hopefully next time you can teach your employees to treat their coworkers with respect and uplift eachother instead of putting eachother down. I didn't see their name tags (the older lady's was flipped around) but I just want to give props to the young girl for handling the situation very maturely even though she looked flustered she did not give a reaction back and continuing to do her job.

I've shopped (and worked from 1978-1980 at) Elder-Beerman and I've shopped at The Bon-Ton (I lived in Philadelphia for 8 years) and this store is like neither. I've tried to shop at the store and even with a $10 off coupon and $10 items on which I could use it, I didn't get anything. That's crazy, right? It's as though the merchandise they have is often not good enough to give away. Those who remember Beerman's in Dayton would tell you how cheap the store was--not how inexpensive it was. The Home Store (Elder's), was upscale. They combined to create a good brand with some budget stores, including the one in the basement of the Courthouse Plaza store. Somewhere along the line, Federated Dept. Stores (Rike's, Shillitos, Lazarus, Burdines, Macy's), decided to push harder. Elder-Beerman bought Mabley & Carew in Cincinnati. This helped their reach but didn't help their sales. When I visited in 2005, they'd been consumed by The Bon-Ton, a slightly discount retailer out of York, Pennsylvania. What I've seen recently is that the name is changing to Carsons for whatever reason. In any case, the store is odd now. Sure, the cosmetics are in the same place. They still have many clothes in stock, but most of the ancillary departments seem minimized. Everything is still rather expensive, more than I'd expect from The Bon-Ton and I haven't seen much to interest me. I have to admit that I bought a Sharp Blu-Ray player just after Christmas 2010, which was about half the retail price and I bought a pair of Cuisinart shears/scissors (Sheartoku) in 2008. That's it. However, if I go into a Macy's store, I can find half a dozen things rather quickly. I hope Elder-Beerman/The Bon-Ton get their act together.

There's hardly a car in the parking lot, and the customer service is next to horrible. You can never find anyone at a cash register. The last times I've been in there, I've left without buying a thing. Once because I didn't have time to try to hunt down an elusive Elder-Beerman employee, and the other time because I came in for a pair of tights and all they had were a few pairs of pantyhose and some sweater leggings. The Estee Lauder counter did do a nice job on my makeup for my wedding, although like most makeup counters, they were kind of pushy about selling products that I didn't need or want.
