Pharmacy runs smooth. Even when there's a crowd the team has is covered. And the front of store staff is always pleasant

It's a CVS. Just like every other CVS. I get my hair dye there. They have everything, unless they're out or it or lazy. That's about it.

For example,Ms. Amara and Ms. Emily got me right in for my immunizations. Made me feel like a star unlike Joe at the store at Chestnut and 19 who got him a little bit of a managerial position and now picks and chooses who to treat as an equal and who to bum rush away like a peasant. The cashier's at this 39th Street store are also cordial to the point of quickly greeting you when you enter. Someone raised these workers to have common courtesy and good manners. Bravo

The location is pretty nice and they will usually have the thing you are looking for The staff here are nice and will sometimes help you if you are looking for something in particular, but it is nothing to write home about. The only downsides to this place would be the occasional begger asking you to buy something. An experience I had was when I walked into the CVS. A guy was asking people for a simple soap. Being a good person, i purchased a nice soap for 3 bucks and gave it to him before I paidfor the rest of my stuff. Low and behold, he was very displeased and creepily looked at me through the glass and began following me when I left. Luckily I outran im. This place is usually fine and you will typically have a good experience.

Taking a gander at all of the reviews on this CVS, I am quite confused as to other's experiences. I…read morecould totally see something negative happening if you over-demanded or had complex shopping requests, but on the whole, I have found this CVS to be reliable, quick during most visits, and relatively orderly. One plus is that they are pretty well staffed here. I've been to other CVS locations in the city, where you hit the button to ask for someone to help you open the Tylenol cabinet, only to wait for an inordinate amount of time before you have to walk all the way back up to the front to get the person yourself. You're able to get the help you need in almost every part of the store here. Granted, you're dealing with Philly folks, so they're not going to give you the nicest smile or friendliest service. But they'll help you out with what you ask, and frankly, when I'm coming to CVS, I'm not looking for the red carpet anyways so that's more than enough for me. Only knocks are probably the fact that aisles are often getting clogged up due to constant restocking happening. Not their problem honestly, because they're serving pretty continuous traffic opening to closing because of UPenn and Drexel nearby, so the fact that they're on top of inventory in the aisles instead of letting shelves stay empty is a good sign to me. Pharmacy folks are also helpful in the Philly fashion. Don't think I've had much of a wait ever, except for right after work, as expected, but even then they recently installed these partially self-serve kiosks within the past year that have greatly sped up prescription pick ups here. On the whole, I think you shouldn't believe all the revenge reviews happening here. This place is more than sufficient and above average for CVS locations in the city.

They don't always have what I need, but many times they do. The employees are nice & helpful. The receipts are still way too long, which not only wastes paper, but also wastes time trying to rip off the extra coupons, throw them away, fold it all up & jam it into my bag. It's annoying, but it's a feature of every CVS I've been to, not this one in particular.

I used to go to the CVS (literally across the street from Aspire since they moved to Locust Street) and have never had a problem waiting in line with people buying groceries, toiletries, and birthday cards before getting my prescription and heading home. At CVS 15 minutes is the minimum wait time. My only misgiving about the new pharmacy is that it opens M-F at 9am closes at 6pm (3pm on Thursdays?), closed on the weekend, and also this winter has been closed on a couple heavy snow days. The business hours at the CVS at a bit better (8am-8pm) if you're leaving for work earlier than 9am or coming home later than 6pm. I'm hoping Aspire has longer hours or operation in the future. i can make due with their hours now, just not as easily as with CVS. The prices for the generic drugs I get at Aspire are bout the same as CVS with the prescription drug coverage, so there isn't any major distinction there, but it may also be different pricing for different types of drugs or pharmacy coverage options on health insurance plans. I'd be curious to hear what others have noticed about Rx drug prices in general from pharmacy to pharmacy. I like that Aspire, as a fledgling business and mom-and-pop shop amongst giant national pharmacies (read: CVS, Rite Aid, Walgreen's, etc.), is creating a local drug store that relies on local customers to support it. I like that my local pharmacist running her own business is taking care of University City/West Philly customers and not corporate executives in a distant office who will never see me or get to know me.

I love Target, and the Chestnut Street Philadelphia location is a prime example of how a major…read moreretail brand can adapt to city living without losing what makes it great. I grew up visiting Target in the suburbs, so discovering this location in Philadelphia immediately felt familiar. It maintains the brand's accessibility and comfort while smartly adapting to city life. The store is consistently clean, bright, organized, and well-stocked. The staff is friendly and helpful, the grocery selection is genuinely fresh, and the overall experience feels thoughtful and efficient. What Target does especially well is discernment. The product mix feels curated rather than crowded, with a smart balance of affordability, quality, and style across groceries, home goods, essentials, and private-label products. Their app also stands out, particularly the real-time inventory tools that make pickup and delivery seamless. More broadly, Target is one of the few major retailers that has preserved the strengths of brick-and-mortar shopping while still evolving for modern life. I suspect part of that comes from the company's Minnesota roots and the strong Scandinavian influence embedded in the culture there. You can feel it in the stores: clean layouts, restrained design, thoughtful presentation, efficiency paired with warmth, and an emphasis on functionality without sacrificing quality. It stands apart from most big-box retail in America. The Chestnut Street location embodies that philosophy perfectly. Similar to what brands like Barnes & Noble and Bloomingdale's have done with their urban stores, Target has adapted away from oversized suburban formats in certain city environments without sacrificing the core experience. The nearby location by the Barnes Foundation is excellent as well. It's larger than the Chestnut Street store but not a sprawling mega store, making it especially well-suited for city living while still offering a broader inventory and the convenience of free parking. Both locations feel like thoughtful adaptations of the traditional suburban retail model rather than watered-down versions. As parents, we've also been consistently impressed by Target's private-label products. Their diapers, formula, yogurt pouches, peanut butter, dairy products, pasta, and other everyday essentials have all been of excellent quality at prices meaningfully lower than those of many national brands. Target's Philadelphia stores demonstrate how thoughtful, adaptable retail can succeed in urban environments while preserving the core values that built customer loyalty in the first place. Highly recommended!
