I have a lot of respect for an independent grocer in this day and age, and the Richmond Shops IGA doesn't disappoint. They've got a wide selection, decent prices (especially with sales), a good deli and seafood counter, and a great bottle shop. You can definitely tell that this isn't a billion-dollar business; there's a slight dinginess (environmentally- the store is quite clean) to the place that feels straight out of the early 2000s, which if I had to guess is the last time any real renovation happened here. This review is solely for their bakery. We have used them 3 times so far for their pull apart cupcakes and a cake. They have amazing designs and are a solid option for pull apart cupcakes. It's been a hit with our son's birthday the last two years. Prices are pretty affordable too. We did have a really bad experience with our daughter's first birthday cake. The cake had a very bitter aftertaste and was completely inedible. We had to throw the entire cake away. Overall they have standard cakes with good designs. You might want to stick with other spots if you want fancy cakes with different flavors. read more

This market has terrible customer service! The self check attendant first told me that I shouldn't bother with their own electronic coupons because they "don't matter." I was just trying to purchase a bakery item that was tagged (on the shelf) with a special sale (so not listed in the flyer. She didn't believe me and told me to go back and take a picture. So I walked back and did that with my phone (I guess they only want customers with smart phones?), just to prove my point for a $2 discount. She then had to go through 2-3 screens to process the sale price! It seems like a poorly organized retail system and store, where I won't be returning to buy groceries any time soon! read more

You need to either fix your self checkouts out you need to go ahead and actually pay to staff cashiers daily. When I tell you I am so tired of "unexpected item in bagging area" I mean I am TIRED of it. I live across the street from this location and at first I thought it would be amazing to have a grocer across the street. Now I order Amazon Fresh most of the time because you have one cashier and 8 self checkouts. Which wouldn't fundamentally be a problem if the did their literal ONLY JOB corrrctly, but they don't. Did you bring your own bag? Guess what, you need to wait five minutes to start scanning your items. And it's not the fault of the staff. They work as fast as they can to fix the snags while the managers hit on the young women who work their or smoke cigarettes near the door to the bottle shop. This location is TRASH and I regularly order DoorDash or Amazon Fresh simply to avoid dealing with their ineptitudes and their garbage produce. read more

Your one Deli worker that goes by the name Lisa is one of the best employee i have ever seen so nice and a hard worker when i seen her a month ago she need to be a deli manager now for your deli manager Kelly lets say she not good i had a friend that went to the deli now keep in mind my friend been in a deli business for 10 years and when he got there no one helped him for like 2 mins then a rude old lady came up to him and ask what do you want while the Deli manager was on her phone then when the old lady was cutting the meat she didn't where gloves or wash her hand and the deli manager just watched didn't say anything all they did was gossip about a deli employee saying mean stuff to that deli employee now its kind of sad that customer got to here the rude employee talking about another employee the two old lady and the deli manager need to be fired cross-contamination for not washing there hands or putting on the gloves is already bad but having a employee gossip bad to another employee that's not working is bad business they need to be fired. read more

In my experience, 50% of their employees are worthless. For example, I mistakenly left my phone in a shopping basket. Two female staff lied to my face, one saying that she'd called it for me, another that she'd gone through all the baskets without finding my phone. Then one snowflake wuss named Mike Z threw me out of the store for making the wrong facial expression at him. He felt threatened by a facial expression? I returned first thing next morning with my tablet, rung the phone, found it in the unsearched baskets, contrary to claims by lying lady #1, with no missed call from lying customer service lady #2. Snowflake wuss Mike Z, you need to get out of your parents' basement and get a real life, I'm just sayin'. So most of their evening shift workers are not there to help you at all. But their daylight people were very helpful to me, I must say, as was precisely one night worker out of 5, this one great fellow who actually tried to help me find my phone, what a champ. This is a very good, if no-frills, grocery store near our home. They have almost everything I'm looking for most of the time, fresh produce and helpful employees. They have good prices and great sales. They have done a great job during Coronavirus keeping things safe and clean. I went in late-ish one night a couple of months ago after a near miss accident (bicycle kid pulled right out in front of my car missing me by inches) and the night manager saw that I was white as a sheet. He asked if I was okay and offered to let me sit down until I was calmer in the office and a bottle of water. I didn't take him up on it but it was a very nice offer and he recognized me and realized something wasn't quite right. I definitely appreciate that. read more

Worst supermarket I ever been to and I didn't even think you could hate a supermarket but this one takes the cake. Found what looked like mouse bite marks in some cereal boxes and loads of bread. Was completely disgusted by it so I brought the issue up to a manager there. Some guy named Mike. A complete tool and a-hole about the situation.
