I am sad to write this because all the Pharmacy staff is so hard working. They look like nice people. They are way understaffed. There is always a line. The phone rings so often that they can't answer it. They are rushing so much, they don't even have time to think. They are never idle. Technical wording problems on a prescription should not prevent people from getting life-saving drugs. I came with a RX for my husband for a potentially life-threatening blood clot. The RX was for 15 mg of Xeralto 2x a day transitioning to 20 mg 1x a day. I was told "WE DON'T HAVE THAT. THE ONLY CVS THAT HAS THAT is in PALO ALTO. You'll have to drive there." It turned out that this local CVS store really did have the exact drug on their shelves!!! They just did not have the "Starter Kit" with nice mistake-proof push-out tablets in a cardboard kit the doctor wrote on the order. Honestly, CVS turned us away when we urgently needed blood-clot medication. Only because I was insistent and determined, did they concede to call his doctor and ask her to "reword the RX" so the life-saving drug could be given in a timely basis. So after standing there for 1 hour, he got the exact same drug that the Doctor ordered... just not in a "Kit." It is horrifying to think that people could be turned away for this type of technical wording problem. If it had been after 5 pm or on a holiday, they would have never been able to contact the doctor. --The part that hurts, is they didn't care if my husband had to have his leg amputated due to a clot, or if he died from a pulmonary embolism if the clot moved to the lungs. They are SO OVERWORKED and SO UNDERSTAFFED, they just don't have time to think or care. They just follow the law and the rules. And they do that at least. Technical wording problems should not prevent people from getting life-saving drugs. CVS needs to properly staff their pharmacies so that the staff is not dead-tired and so they have time to think. read more

I have never left a review for a drug store but seriously this place is a dump!! The refrigerator system was out so all their drinks were not for sale, there was a ton of trash in the parking lot and the garage cans were totally full and disgusting. For a nice beach town you would things to be kept clean. read more

This is the most poorly ran CVS I have ever been to. I needed help looking for a product, and the manager Phil completely ignored me while I was asking for help. He rudely and disrespectfully turned his back on me and continued to work on something else right in front of me and would not verbally respond to any of the questions I was asking. I will never return to this CVS. I would suggest everyone to go across the street to Rite Aid instead of visiting this disgrace of a CVS. read more

Worst pharmacy on the Coastside. The pharmacy is seriously understaffed. I stood around at the dropoff window for about 10 minutes, and no one even looked in my direction. They're all working diligently, so the problem is not the people. There just aren't enough of them. I rarely write bad reviews but today, I feel I have to make an exception. I work in a local Emergency Room and was trying to call in a prescription for a client this afternoon. I believe I was eventually put through to a Dr. Chiu. I have worked and collaborated with pharmacies for years but have never come across a more disagreeable, rude and unprofessional individual. He was very curt and completely unhelpful. I did manage to talk to Claudia, who said she would expedite the patients prescription when she arrived. Its a shame that one bad apple can ruin a department. read more

I don't know how this CVS stays in business. The pharmacy acts like they're doing you a favor for filling your prescription. The automated messaging is all about Covid. People do have other reasons to call a pharmacy! Their online system is more of a burden than a help. SMS is cryptic and confusing. I actually don't trust CVS with my children's medication. Going forward, I'll likely switch to Rite Aid across the street. The bar is pretty low - I don't think I should have to wait in a line behind 8 people with one person working or wait on the phone for 15 minutes, only to be treated rudely then hung up on before my question was answered. Corporate should look into this location. read more

The only saving grace of this pharmacy is Vicky. Every single time (monthly) there has been an issue with my prescription. Sometimes being delayed for a day or two, and I had to follow up and remind them about it. I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

This CVS is fully stocked with everything. The few times I couldn't find what I was looking for, it was because they were out of stock, which doesn't happen that often. I have had to use the pharmacy for several different people within my family and there has never been a problem. They have always answered all my questions and handled all insurance claims and questions I had with understanding and patience. Also, this is a fun place just to wander in... It kinda reminds me of when I was a kid and I used to wander around Walgreens. LOVE that it's open 24 hours. HMB needs more of that. :) read more

I'm posting 2 stars because of the shopping cart problem. Otherwise it is a good store. I have gone there 6 times in the past few weeks. Today an employee found me a cart from somewhere, but each time there were no carts to be seen. I like to pick up pkgs of beverages that I cannot handle without a cart. I have mentioned this to cashiers but don't know if these complaints are passed on to the manager. I am aware of the problems they have with theft, but there has to be a better solution that they can have some inside the store & have an employee check outside periodically to bring them back in or something similar. I often choose Rite Aid to shop if I don't have to come to CVS just because of this issue. I hope management will heed this post. read more

Once again the computers in the pharmacy were down. Either the computers are "down" or there is not sufficient staff to service the customers waiting to receive their pre-ordered perscriptions. This is a store management problem. If the store is processing 100 customers per day, and each customers perscriptions take 10 minutes to fill (personal always have to search multiple inventory bins), that roughly calculates to serving 6 customers per hour which means that multiple service personnel are needed. But too often my waits are 20-30 minutes to be served. This is ridiculous and definitely a management problem. I am now looking for another pharmacy due to this mismanagement. read more

I had one of the worst experience at this location. The man who is "manager" (Phill) was the most rude, disrespectful and unprofessional person I have met. Due to their short staff there were only two registers opened. He was on one of course ringing people up. My mother and I were waiting on one side of a register and for some reason this man thinks we are cutting the line and yells "I hate wen people cut in line!" and calls out the other people who are on the other register to cut in front of us to pay and after awhile then tells me "there's only one line" . This Does not make any sense as typically each register has had their own line in the past. Usually if there is two registers open there should be two lines! After there was no line on the other register he says " ok now what do you need" making us feel discriminated and humiliated. I was shocked at the situation and had a hard time trying to understand his rude behavior. I feel it could have been handled differently as he could have simply said there is a sign saying "one line" (which there was not). This man doesn't deserve a management position if he is handling costumer service this way. Very disappointed. read more

I hate to give my local pharmacy a bad review, especially after most of my interactions have been fine over the years. But their pharmacist Dr Chiu, was just so rude over the phone I felt this needed to be shared. I'm a kaiser patient and called CVS to have them help me get an urgent prescription transferred closer to where I live. The first woman I spoke to was nice enough, but after she put me on hold Dr Chiu picked up and just said "hello" I was surprised and said "oh another woman was just helping me" He responded "yes, what do you want?" I then repeated everything and in literally the 40 seconds he was willing to be on the phone with me, he interrupted me multiple times, ignored my questions, raised his voice and when I finally asked him to please not be rude to me, he responded "I have other things to do." I understand being stressed at work, but that's not an excuse to ignore bedside manners - especially when I'm asking for help filling a prescription for a sudden medical issue. CVS - I expected better customer service and you should expect more from your employees. read more

Standing in line. A child next to me tells his mom in Spanish 'It's the same man as last time.' The parents and their child move to another register. I should've moved as well. The man at the register rang me up. I mentioned that he had charged me for a bag (I had brought my own) and he said yes he had. I looked at my bag questioning why. He said he would refund me once he opened the register. This was before I had paid. I figured it would take a while if he needed to call manager or someone to void it. Fine, I used my card. He then proceeds to take money out of his own pocket and counts out change to give to me. I was horrified and embarrassed. I told him never mind and was grabbing my stuff, but he insisted. I felt like he was making a show of how he was counting out his own personal money to give me his change. So condescending. All while the other customers stared on. I was furious. Do the job right the first time. I get it, mistakes happen. If they do, follow protocol and refund money to the customer they way you're suppose to. Do not make it seem like you are giving charity to someone just to make yourself look good in front of "others." Makes me wonder if this man treats all Spanish speaking people(or if you look like it) as if they are beneath him. read more

Never going to this useless store again in my life. First of all they have the gypsy panhandler outside bugging people. Then you can't find anything in this stupid store. I love coming to this pharmacy I get to joke around with the girls, and they joke around back with me it's a nice little atmosphere in there. There's a really cool pharmacist named Diana and I just want to give a special thanks to her and a real special thanks to that wonderful Young lady Gabby. Gabby seems like she's always in a good mood she never lets anything get to her, or maybe she just doesn't show it either way she's a great employee for CVS the kind of Employee they can be proud of. Before we took our drive back over the 92, I really wanted to make a pitstop to get a cold drink. We stopped into this CVS and bought a Diet Coke and Arizona iced tea...and then got distracted and bought a few more things while we were there. Sure, we've got a CVS down the street from where we live, but this store was really organized and clean. The staff was really friendly and kept asking if we needed any help. There was barely a line and we checked out quite quickly. A very nice, cute lil' store. read more

I have been using CVS Pharmacy in Half Moon Bay For many prescriptions for my husband who has been in and out of hospitals since May 22, 2019. Pharmacists and personnel at CVS in Half Moon Bay have assisted me in gathering a multitude of prescriptions as he has been released from the hospital on four different occasions. It has been confusing and many times urgent to receive the prescriptions in a fast manner and the Half Moon Bay staff has been great. This is a super busy location and yet they go the extra mile to help people as I have heard it firsthand and have experienced it myself. Please keep up the good work. For some reason I seem to have to run into this CVS all the time and it is usually a decent experience all around. For sometime now, it has become increasingly difficult to pick up prescriptions because of the long line and wait time. I have gone in 4 times in the past week to get a needed prescription filled and I've walked out empty handed. I don't believe it's because of the renovations as the pharmacy has been done for sometime. I can't help but notice that they put in three terminals, but there is never more than one person working at the pharmacy counter. I'm going to give them one more chance, then I'm going elsewhere! read more

I just had a horrible experience with #protectmyID I called them to report a possible identity theft, they tried to sell me an Experian credit report. I kept asking them "please transfer me to Experian" and the person kept yakking, and didn't transfer me. Shame on you #protectmyID if you are listening. You are no getting my business any longer. Angie was so rude and actually told me that she has kids and she doesn't need to use these coupons like I'm using them. She even tried to tell me I could only use one coupon when I had like six of them that were valid. Then she continued to yell over the counter mind you I was not even in her checkout line. She then gossiped to other customers. I have 4 teenagers and was brought to tears due to the rudeness and humiliation of being yelled out, shamed for using valid coupons and trying to talk to the very helpful checkout person who was trying to help me over Angie making comments. It's the only game in town, And obviously they know it or customer service and even human kindness be damned. I was the only minority in the store and was so embarrassed. read more

Many years back I stopped going to what was Long's then and now is CVS. I went to Half Moon Bay Pharmacy with which I have never had anything but a great experience. This weekend I needed an antibiotic for my very sick daughter after a visit to a doctor and a hospital for tests. I arrived a few minutes after 6 - I thought they were 24 hour service as it says on line. But, the pharmacy closes at 6. There were three employees there so I flagged one of them to ask to get the prescription that was already prepared. First, I did end up getting it. But, it was the most unpleasant experience ever. Rude people, not one iota of concern for my daughter or acknowledgement of what a pharmacy provides -- care for PEOPLE. I kept calm, I even told the manager that I realize she went above and beyond her work to give me the prescription, but that she wasn't getting the level of appreciation she wanted because she was so obnoxious and unfeeling in the process. She said I should be grateful they were cleaning or I would be SOL. Not once did she say "While we shouldn't do it after hours, we don't want your daughter to suffer through another night." That's all she would have had to say to completely change the experience. That's why I took the time to tell her what was lacking -- to help her relate to future customers in a new way. As People with healthcare issues, not as a business only. She didn't get it. I will do everything in my power to never go again. read more

They were unable to get or order a particular medication I needed and suggested I try Half Moon Bay Pharmacy. I think this store is pretty great. I was able to purchase just what I needed from it. I have severe hemorrhoids and I need cream to make the pain stop. I got the crem and I checked out. Outside a homeless man jostled me and stole my hemorrhoid cream. I was VERY upset. I couldnt find the door to get back inside CVS again, so I just left. They need better security. I had to be in pain for 3 hours before i was able to obtain more hemorrhoid creme. Very disappointed. read more

My wife has chronic back pain, for which her doctor prescribed some low dose pain killers. She fell and broke her right arm the other day. The doctor who set it gave her a prescription for additional pain killers to deal with the arm. The Pharmacist, Marttha Groszyk, decided that she already had enough and discarded the prescription to make sure we couldn't get it filled elsewhere. She did not talk to the prescribing doctor. She has a reputation for arrogance and this sort of incompetence around the city. Go elsewhere. read more

I happened to be on a trip out of town with the misses. Being on this trip I figured it would be nice to share a bottle of wine. Seeing this CVS off the main road I figured it would be a perfect option to stop in. Shopped around the store, was never asked for help finding items once but that's okay. The real kick in the pants is when I went to check out. Now I am from out of town as you know and actually so did the check out clerk because when getting my CVS rewards card she even noted the phone number not being local. Now with that said I was not familiar with the .25 cents per bag charge you need to pay to walk out. The cashier did not make this known before applying $30 in charges to my credit card. Instead she just decided to not care, hold up the line and shock and awe me in the end. I've got candy, cups, and two bottles of wine and she's done ringing me up and just staring at me. "Can I get a bag" I stated? "That will be a quarter!" She never explained why or how things are different here, just a blank ignorant stare. We went back and forth on this thinking this was a joke. Had it not been for another patron here stepping in to explain the situation I would have thought she was crazy. Imagine if you went to a store asking to return an item and instead of them explaining why they cannot take your return, instead they just stop short on the word no as a parent talking to their child.
