Instead of buying new ones (Ikea doesn't sell sofas in this color any more), we decided to have them fortified by a professional furniture repair shop. Look no further for your upholstery needs! Justin and his team are as good as it gets! I wish I could give Cutting Edge Upholstery MORE than 5 stars! We have an expensive couch and loveseat set made by American Leather that is about 13 years old. The leather is in really good shape and this was a high quality set for which we paid top dollar at the time. Unfortunately the cushions had really flattened and weren't providing much support. One of the seams on a seat cushion had even begun to tear along the seam and the internal filling of duck feathers had begun to leak and seep out. We were really skeptical that the couch was salvageable and we were heartbroken. These pieces are unique as they are motion (reclining) pieces that do not look at all like they are motion pieces. People are constantly fooled and surprised when they learn they recline. We had all but resolved that we would have to purchase a different set we wouldn't be as happy with. We thought we should at least talk to an upholstery place to see what could be done. Justin had me bring in the cushions. He spent about 15 minutes with me explaining that it was a great piece of furniture and that he could definitely make the cushions look and feel new again. The work only took him about 2-3 days and I picked up my cushions today. Justin and his team exceeded my every expectation for this job. The cushions look and feel brand new---perhaps even better than the original filling. The job was done on time and under what my husband and I expected to pay for such a job. We will soon be bringing our 4 loveseat cushions in for him to give them the same refresh. This small business is EVERYTHING you would hope for when searching for a service like this. Without a doubt, this was the best experience that I could have hoped for. We recently moved and our 8 foot sofa couldn't make it up the stairwell due to its size. My boyfriend and I got a little creative and decided to cut the sofa into 2 pieces that would then fit like a sectional. Seemed fairly straightforward to us (though is understandably MUCH more complicated than that :) ). I called at least a half dozen places and spoke with a few. Some were willing to do it, but didn't sound particularly knowledgeable. Others told me that we were crazy. And there there was Cutting Edge, who not only said this was something they had definitely done before with great success but also took the time to explain some of the intricacies of a job like this. We felt very comfortable leaving our RH leather sofa in their hands. Communication throughout the entire process was GREAT. Justin sent us updates and pictures with each major milestone of the project, and they were on time for both pick up and delivery. They charge a very fair price for the quality of their work and communicated the estimates appropriately. I've done work with Justin when he worked at another shop. If I ever need upholstery work again, I'll definitely follow Justin to his new shop. Justin knows his stuff. He explained everything that needed to be done to replace my convertible top. He offered a number of alternatives and explained the benefits and the pitfalls of each alternative. He explained exactly what needed to be done and did exactly that. There were no hidden charges, no extended time lines, and no conversations about things costing more than first expected. I appreciated the brief education he gave. In fact, it helped seal the deal for me doing business with him. Justin instilled confidence in me with his knowledge and explanations. It was something that other shops were definitely lacking. I also had a hole in the driver's seat of my car. I asked about getting the seat reupholstered and Justin recommended just replacing the panels with holes. I was a little skeptical at first... I wasn't sure it would really match. However, he picked a perfectly matching material and you can't even tell that two of the panels on my seat aren't from the factory. He saved me a ton of money with his recommendation. I'm happy to agree with the other very satisfied customers of Cutting Edge Upholstery that their work is of the highest quality and that the process of reaching the point of completion is a pleasure rather than a drag. The couch and love seat in my house were -- putting it mildly -- pretty beaten up by the attentions of a generation of people and several generations of felines. I could have replaced them with new ones, but the design of these two pieces is suited perfectly to the design of the house and I knew that I wouldn't be able to find new ones that would fit the room so well. The couch and love seat both have a lot of exposed wood, which needed attention as much as the upholstery did after years of use ... by people and cats both. Justin worked hard on this project and made many excellent suggestions as to choice of fabrics, improvements to the style and fit of the cushions, and more. He was at all times a pleasure to work with. He's clearly driven by a desire for quality rather than quantity. The finished work is back in the house now and couldn't look better. What an awesome company! I needed an extremely small couch repair done that wasn't big enough for most upholstery shops to consider. Phil responded extremely quickly over email, assessed the damage using photos I sent, and gave me the option of either a less expensive price when he was already going to be in Seattle or the option of paying more to have the team come out at a separate time. I chose the former and the team was in and out in 5 minutes and the couch is like new. They are professional, responsive, and they were even nice to my little dog. I sent a photo to get a quote for recovering two dining seats that were lying around in the basement gathering dust. I received a quote from Justin by the end of the day. When I brought the chairs in, he saw that the wood inserts were actually in great condition. He promptly subtracted $60 from the quote. As for scheduling, he said Christmas was a possibility, but he could not guarantee it, so we agreed on the 29th. Needless to say, I was delighted to get a call today (23rd) saying that my chairs were ready. Finally, these were old chairs that I was not at all sure could look good or be functional. This was a huge help to me because I didn't have to haul the sofa into the shop. For a very nominal fee, he imparted valuable information and truly fact-based recommendations in our refurbishment vs purchase decision. I recently got our four dining table chairs recovered from Patrick. He did such an amazing job that they almost look brand new. What I really appreciate about their business is their honesty and diligence they put into getting the job done. Justin was always prompt at returning calls and meeting schedules, never had a thing to worry about. There was some glitch/problem with the fabric in sewing that it kept coming apart during the make of thin pipings. But Patrick somehow made it work for us - he seemed to have put in twice as much labor to make it work for us. I don't normally go out of my way to write reviews, but I feel compelled in this case. The headliner in my car gave up the ghost after five years of service and I needed it redone. I was planning on going to a place in Ballard until I spotted Cutting Edge on Yelp, just down the street from me. The pricing was right on, and they were able to match the stock headliner material in texture, and near perfect in color. Justin redid the headliner and it came out better than new. It was fully wrapped around all edges (instead of just the corners), so I don't expect it to be dropping on me again. I have absolutely zero complaints about the craftsmanship. But the thing that really impressed me was that Justin helped me re-install the headliner in my car on the spot, when I was planning on doing it solo. It saved a lot of time and frustration, and left me quite impressed. I will be recommending these guys to my family and friends for any upholstery jobs they need done in the future. read more

Justin just completed a complete interior and convertible top on my 1950 Chevrolet Styleline Deluxe Convertible. The car had some issues with stuff being tweaked and parts missing, Justin either fabricated or adjusted his work to make the finished product look better than factory! He created the 2 piece carpet himself out of a roll, binding all the edges using a heat gun to mold it. The door and kick panels are carpet, fabric and vinyl that flow seamlessly from back to front. The windlace is 4 parts to match the panels! He took the seats completely apart, sanded repaired springs and painted. The seats alone are works of art as far as I'm concerned. He took the convertible top completely apart as well sanding and painting all the parts. He replaced all the rubber and hardware. The new top he installed was not perfect from the manufacturer but he took it and manipulated it until it fit perfectly- using the heat gun once again to get it to fit tighter than it came with originally. He then made a well liner from scratch, topping it off with a custom one of a kind boot. The finishing touches like re finishing the visors, decking out the trunk and making the firewall/wiring disappear just makes the car pop! I've put a few cars together and know good from bad, I dare you to find another upholsterer than does finer work. His attention to detail is top notch. He can sew like a magician. Finally his communication and timing is great especially in a business not known for keeping an owner up to date or getting work out in a timely manner. We came to Cutting Edge for a fairly simple project (adding buttons to couch cushions) and they were incredibly helpful and gave us a really fair price. The BEST! These guys have done several jobs for me. They took an old, worn out sun cover for a porch swing that my in laws had on their deck and completely remade it from new fabric. It fit perfectly when I got it back on. They fixed the leather driver's side seat on My Volvo XC-90 and it looked as good as new, they even built it back up and made sure it was in excellent condition. They go above and beyond what one would expect for customer service and I am just so happy to have found them. Most recently I took all the cushions to an old couch that I wanted to update and they were able to turn it around in a few days time (I got lucky with my timing). But they made this couch look so beautiful and even made me an extra pillow from the extra fabric. I will always take my projects to them. Justin is just great. read more

We were having a custom made window seat made and it had odd shaped areas for cushions. I didn't have a great deal of time either as I had spent about 6 weeks just trying to find someone that could make these in time, with quality and at the right price point. I had some ridiculous bids given to me and some of the work I saw was not up to level I wanted. I had a template made of paper and was lucky enough to find these guys. I spoke with Justin over the phone and by the end of the conversation I knew I had finally found the team I wanted. I bought a cool baby leopard print fabric (5 yards for 3 cushions) and brought the fabric and template to their home shop. Justin and his dad do all the work and they know what they are talking about. I picked the cushions up a few weeks later and I could not be more pleased. Everyone loves sitting on the window seat and it truly looks amazing. The quality of work is the best there is and they were a pleasure to work with. I could not be happier and will use them again. Using 60 inch sunbrella fabric with no matching pattern, there is just no way that one back pillow cushion needs two yards of fabric ! I wanted a chemical-free sofa that my kids could safely play on; free of fire-retardants, formaldehyde, and pesticides that are in all upholstered furniture.
