I came here once to get my hair bleached and they did a nice job. I was also given water and a face mask to block the odor from the bleach. My hair came out really great in the end. The guy who helped me dye my hair was very nice and courteous. The whole salon is very fancy and high end with nice chairs and equipment. They have the nice high end luxury shampoo/conditioner and hair products that have a nice subtle smell. Not overly strong or perfumey. The shampoo that they used on the hair lathers really well with water and does not create a sticky consistency. It suds well and better than your normal over the counter shampoo. Let's start with clean, Covid safe, and my stylists being very comfortable to talk to. A few months ago I went to Nicky and showed him a BUNCH of photos I found on Pinterest. I said "I want the color like this but a little blonder, less yellow. I want the pattern like this but frame my face...This pattern is close to what I want but too thick. Oh...I colored my hair black before coming in...AND I want it to still look healthy " He should've kicked me out but instead he paraphrased everything I said to make sure he understood me properly, and then he made sure that *I* understood that we will prioritize the health of my hair this session and go as blonde as we can without breaking because the kinda blonde I asked for...would break my hair in one sitting. This is the kind of hair stylist we trust. Upfront and will work with you based on YOUR priorities. It still came out pretty blonde, the pattern of it was exactly what I wanted and my hair was still long and healthy. 5 stars. Fast forward a few months of taking care of my hair, I AM READY FOR THE BLONDE OF MY DREAMS So I really wanted to respect the original artist, but Nicky was booked AF so I asked Kevin to squeeze me in. I was a little nervous about switching stylists at first, because Nicky knows my hair. but I came in, told Kevin "I want the roots touched up, I want the blonde even blonder, like white but not white, you get what I'm saying?? I want face framing layers, something long lasting so I can grow it out, oh and I want curtain bangs...keep it as healthy as possible ?" he paraphrased what I asked for (super important to me) and THEN HE DISCUSSED THE HISTORY OF MY HAIR WITH NICKY. I was really impressed with how much thought both of them put into my hair. I had the pleasure of working with Anthony Pan & another stylist who assisted in coloring and both were fantastic! They were super respectful, gentle with the hair, & frequently checked up on me (how I was doing, drinks, or if I wanted to order food). I came in on a Monday morning at 10:45 am and thoroughly put in 3 deep conditioning treatments overnight (Anthony was thankful lol) & consulting on the kind of color he wanted to do (after I showed pictures and said I wanted gray).. instead of doing a balayage he recommended to do a color melt instead with multidimensional colors such as blonde and purple instead of just dark gray. The whole bleaching process was very strategic in the sense that he did my mid roots first, roots, midsection, & then ends. It took about 3-4 hours as I have very thick and long(chest length) hair but once again they were both patient and used as many product that was needed to do the job. The stylists explained and walked me through every step of the way including the wash and what shampoo/conditioner they were using and for what purpose and checking the temperature of the water. Anthony also mentioned being that my hair is gray that I must try to wash my hair only with cold water and try not to wash it everyday like I'm used to and instead around twice a week with also making sure I deep condition regularly. After the final wash with the gray color melt piry ices finished- Anthony bloodied my hair, still realized that my ends have taken a toll and quickly cut my hair (added layers, chopped a few inches off the ends) hence making my locks seemingly healthy again! :D I was super excited about those results. Furthermore, he continued to curl and add product to my hair to define its glorious transformation. Overall the whole process did take about 7-8 hours and it was 500% worth it! Anthony was beyond the best hair stylist I've worked with and will definitely be back in a couple of months for my touchup!! Thank you for providing such great service in a equally beautiful salon. I booked an appointment two days before to come in for a hair cut and dye. I was taken care of by Kevin who was extremely thorough in the cutting and dyeing of my hair! He was very helpful in recommending a color for my hair as I wanted something quite dark. He was particularly attentive in making sure that my whole head was the same color, and even took extra time in re-dyeing one part that was a bit brown. I had damaged looking hair with a lot of split ends going in, and my hair came out so healthy and soft! I was so so happy and relieved to find out Cutting Edge was open for business again and called right away to make an appointment with Nicky, who is just the bestttt and who has been my hairstylist since I moved back to the city over two years ago. Nicky is beyond talented because he has the best technique and intuition-he knows what will work and look best for you, while caring about maintaining the health of your hair (in case of coloring and bleaching). He will always be honest with you, too, and that is so important and greatly appreciated because he will always make sure the final vision is the most perfect one for you, for your facial structure, complexion, etc. etc. Both of these reasons are why I truly value his work and professionalism and have been and will continue to be a loyal client. I always leave the salon feeling so happy and much more confident than before. It should go without saying that the customer service here is impeccable, as Nicky and the entire staff are very kind people. They'll always offer you beverages and take great care of you (the scalp massages during shampoo/conditioning are so therapeutic, too!). They have set up the salon in accordance to Covid-19 protocols, and I felt very safe and comfortable throughout my session. After a friend of mine recommended this salon, I gave them a call last Tuesday to make an appointment for Friday (7/13). I know hair appointments usually book up weeks or even months in advance so I wasn't sure how lucky I would be to get an appointment with Nicky (who she had recommended). Unfortunately, he was fully booked but after reading a lot of reviews, I decided to ask if Marco had any openings and I was able to get the only time left at 4pm. Marco was very friendly! He sat me down for a consultation for a cut + balayage and asked me what I was looking for. After showing him the color and length I wanted, he gave thoughtful feedback on what he thought would work best for my hair type. Since I very rarely get my hair professionally colored, I was open to any suggestions that he had. The whole process took 5 hrs from sitting down to walking out of the salon but I am 100% satisfied with how it came out! Marco and his assistant, Alvin were very attentive during the whole process. The salon closes at 7:30pm but we were there until 9pm. Not once did Marco seem like he was rushing or impatient while he was working on my hair and I really appreciated that. Very unhappy with my last visit and sadly will not be coming back. I'm very disappointed because I thought I had found my salon/stylist in the city. My first initial visit was beyond amazing. Fast forward to my 4th visit, the appointment felt very different. What I liked about the salon is that it's only by appointment which is nice because you get one on one time. Regardless this did not help the end result. Came for a bayalage left only to find that my hair was very patchy and the color was uneven. Came back the following day to get it fixed. The color was even and I was content with the result. Its been a little over a week and I now have a TON of short pieces of hair as seen. I came in only for color not a cut so I know for a fact this happened because the bleach was left in for way too long. I really wish that this experience did not happen because I absolutely loved this salon. Unfortunately, this is the second strike and I'd like to avoid a third. I've been a double process gal for almost two years now, and the Cutting Edge is the only place I'll go to for that hair magic. Go in for a consult, ask for Marco, and bring reference pictures. I've gone blonde, gray, silver, silver with purple tones, and most recently pink. The pink I've stayed with the longest, and it feels the most true to me. Marco will not only bleach & dye your hair, but he'll give you plenty of product recommendations for maintaining it too.
