I didn't catch the name of the stylist we got but she really phoned it in; low energy, immediately turned on the TV and wasn't engaging at all. I had more energy than her and I consider myself a low energy person. The whole haircut only took less than 5 minutes if you don't count the spraying water on my daughter's hair. It was 10 minutes tops from start to finish. The place is super cute and they get a balloon and lollipop at the end which the kids love but for the price ($21.95 $25 after tip but I don't know what I was tipping for honestly) and quality of haircut you get, it's not worth it. I struggle with masks as I have asthma and I feel like I am suffocating while wearing one. I asked my stylist why we had to wear masks when just about every other business was wide open and mask-free. I was told "to make our customers FEEL safe." Personally, I found the mask wearing extremely uncomfortable. That being said, I typically would joke around my stylist but the mask wearing made me more of a quiet person. She asked me if all was ok, to which I replied yes...All is cool, but the mask made me feel like I was suffocating. After about the 6th haircut since reopening. I was told by the stylist (who is also general manager) not to worry about paying and took me outside to discuss how she felt uncomfortable that I was less talkative and what we're going to do about it. I sternly told her to just cancel all my future appointments (I was scheduled for every three weeks for years down the road). I was so pissed that now I needed to worry about her feelings, when she needed to simply cut my hair....That's it. So, this is how I was treated when she had cut my hair for so long. Believe me, she is obviously a liberal mind set and here she was telling me how to act to make her comfortable with me. The whole place is a liberal bastion...The owner is also very liberal. This business is a liberal shit hole. And on top of that, my stylist was not very good and very inconsistent....Often I would ask her to fix something that was wrong with my cut and it was very expensive for a men's haircut. I would not recommend this place, at all, to anyone. I now get my hair cut at a Great Clips down the road from my house for half the price and the lady that I always get is very good and very consistent. I literally can't imagine life without a visit to Marie every six weeks or so. She's a master with color, cut and style and never stops learning and perfecting her art. I am not kidding when I say I had no less than 15 compliments at work the day after my last cut/color. She is however apparently not good at updating her address here (probably because she works practically 24/7), so let me share that she is now at the Wanderlux Suites off of 751 in Durham. We communicated through text to pin down a good time for the appointment. I came to her with some past pics I had and some ideas. Her personalized solution was a long layered bob cut. Watching her technique and showing the progression with the mirror to see the back side the whole way was a nice touch I did not receive at the prior place a week ago. I enjoyed sharing with her how I found her through Yelp and discussed the great advantages of connecting with others through Yelp and LinkedIn. I loved sharing foodie tips and places with Marie. Had a 5PM appointment after calling earlier that day. There were 2 male barbers and 1 female one. The female 1, named Gina, was the one who did my haircut. None of them really made Hitto Salon welcoming; I felt like I was just another customer. My hair got a nice shampoo treatment but after that, Gina did not really take the time to understand the kind of haircut I wanted even after showing her a photo - a simple cut with a thicker top and more faded sides. Throughout the entire haircut, she barely said a word; the most silent treatment I got in a salon. She shaved the sides but the cut lacked the shape and care I got from other nearby salons. My wife said that the back part of my cut looks uneven, rushed. She used mostly the razor for shaving without the crafting of the scissors to shape my hair to its ideal form. She did not even use a mirror to show me the mess she made on the back of my head. It's worth noting that this was the 2nd time I got a haircut from Gina, the first being in another salon named Scissorhands. I didn't realize this until my wife later told me about it, and I initially thought she was someone who resembled her. If I knew this from the start, I would probably would have refused to get another haircut from her given how unprofessional she performed on my first haircut with her. At the end of the haircut, she styled my hair a bit with some kind of styling cream and hairspray but no amount of styling could hide the mess of a haircut she made.

When he was done, it was still partially wet and not straight at all. I asked him to dry it straight, so then he went back and kept drying it (this time, employing a different strategy, which I was doubtful about but I decided to trust the process), but it was still very frizzy and had visible waves when he was done. It clearly wasn't going to get any better so I said thanks and left, but I truly think it's because he hasn't had practice with my hair type. Last night I slept with a silk bonnet on, and despite that I woke up this morning and it is very wavy and super thick and frizzy. It looks incomplete (like it was partially blow dried but never finished. Which is lowkey what happened). I'm also noticing now that the hair is uneven length on each side. I paid less than I typically pay at other places, which was nice, but overall I'm disappointed. It also smelled kind of bad in the salon.
