It's a pretty reasonable deal for all the bells and whistles that they throw in. It almost feels like entering a hangar; there's a lot of old airplane memorabilia hanging on the walls. Plenty of quality hair products to purchase also. I waited about 15 minutes before someone called me up for my haircut. Even though I had set an appointment, someone else came in the door after me, but got his haircut before I did. They did apologize for it, at least. But while I was waiting, on the table next to me was an old timey looking radio that functioned as a phone charger. Except I plugged my phone in and it wasn't charging. First time coming here! Though this place apparently has plenty of negative reviews, it was pretty busy for the day I came in on. I was skeptical of when I first entered because I did see the complex haircuts everyone had from the Google reviews. I actually didn't know this was a chain haircut establishment in the Raleigh area prior. Staff here was nice. Most of the customers were mostly older men and I assumed I was entering (another) Sports Clips back home but I got a good haircut experience. They do fades but they don't blend your hair. Had a first time appointment at 0930. Checked in at 0920 and sat to wait. While I was waiting two (2) other customers came in who both also had 0930 appointments. I watched as not one but both of them were taken back before me. Finally at 0952 (22 minutes late) I got up and told them I was leaving. No one had the courtesy or professionalism to explain why two customers who came after me were provided service before me. Completely unprofessional. read more

Been a customer for at least 7 years and in one experience I am done forever. Extremely unprofessional and rude receptionist. At the last minute I realized I had just enough time for a haircut before our company Christmas party. I called to book an appointment and the receptionist told me they had an appointment available for 4:20 which meant if I hurried I would just make it. Unfortunately got stuck in a bit of construction traffic so I ended up pulling into the parking lot at exactly 4:25. I got out of my car, held the door open for a family leaving, and was at the front desk by 4:26. By the time the receptionist got to the desk from being in the back it was 4:27. I have to say in the dozens of haircuts I have gotten, I have never been late and never been made aware of any policies regarding arrival times to an appointment. My text confirmation and the receptionist who gave me the appointment also never made any mention of any policies while booking either. That said upon giving my name I was told they have a five minute late policy so I couldn't get a haircut. It was very cold and matter of fact. No apology or empathy when I explained the situation. I even asked if I could simply wait for the next available stylist or until the person who took my time slot was done. The receptionist said no, there was no options to wait. I would have to wait until 6 when they had another spot available. I had driven over half an hour to get to the appointment and now I'm heading home. Due to her rude one word answers from the receptionist coupled with a few of the stylist looking at me with that oh my god look on their faces, but none of them stepping in and saying anything. That and the fact there wasn't anybody in the waiting area and they obviously gave my appointment time to someone else so it stands to reason I could have just move into his appointment time. For a place claiming to specialize in Men's haircuts, I was thoroughly disappointed TWICE about the quality of the haircuts I got from here. I am very well versed in the types of haircuts, techniques, clips etc and so was very very specific about exactly what I wanted down to the inch yet somehow my stylist found a way to completely ruin the hair I spent months working on. The length was uneven across the board, the stylist took the Number 1 clip way too high and the fade was very very poorly done. I only came here because my regular stylist was out of town but I will for sure NEVER come here again. Oh, the peanuts were great though. read more

This place is a joke. I wanted to get my sides cleaned up between cuts. Should be a 5 minute job. She didn't ever fade it up to where my hair is longer. She literally just took some off the very bottom. The charged me $40 for a fade. No other services received. Great price for a haircut! Always feel comfortable coming here - in addition to the haircut, the service includes a hair wash which means leaving without all those scratchy hairs! There is usually a wait/full appointments so definitely either make an appointment in advance or call the day of and check availability. The establishment has slowly been raising rates (it used to be only $11 if you paid cash!) now a standard haircut is $15.75 but even that is still either cheaper or on par with the likes of Great Clips/Super cuts - plus the added benefit of hair wash! Recommendation to staff: you should note how the hair is cut each time so that the next stylist has an idea of what the customer last received. read more

My husband and son have been coming here for years as we live nearby but today is our last day coming to this barbershop. I was disgusted and extremely upset at how low this place has gotten. There was an employee who was cursing and using profanity with another employee right at the register in front of a line of customers who were waiting to pay. Then you could hear them cursing towards the back of the barbershop close to where my son was getting his hair cut. We have seen employees come and go from this establishment but this place has gotten what people would call "ghetto". It's truly unprofessional. The only reason I didn't give a one star is because of the employee Enida who always does a good job with my son's cut. The extras you get are not worth it to me if we have to be in the presence of such foul mouthed employees. read more

I arrived at 320pm on a Sunday, they close at 4pm. I signed in using their clipboard at the front desk and took my seat in the waiting area. I noticed only two people in front of me...cool. After waiting for approximately ten minutes they called my name, I thought it was haircut time. Nope, not even close. They informed me that they are "already booked for the day" and had the nerve to ask if I wanted to come back tomorrow! Seriously? If you are really booked, why are you still allowing people to sign in? And how can you be booked when it's 40 minutes till closing time and only two people are in the waiting area and there are at least five stylists back there? I feel like I got kicked out of the place. Literally. I was very insulted. I will never return. They need to treat customers with a little more respect. read more

Decided to get an impromptu haircut at the Hair Cuttery on Kildaire only to see the place had closed, boo. So I fired up the Yelp! mobile app and found this place. I saw in the reviews they could get busy with walk-ins having to wait a good bit so I called. Receptionist said to run over as they currently had only about a 10 minute wait. She lied. I walked in, signed my name, and they sat me right away. So I missed out on the leather chair, peanuts, and coffee treatment they have available in the waiting area. The stylist asked me what I wanted and spent a good 20 minutes on my hair. This is a LONG time for the amount of hair I have. But it came out very neat looking, and she stopped multiple times to blow dry off the clippings. I have never gone for the shampoo, but I wasn't given the option. She whirled me around, put the hot towel on my face, washed my hair, massaged my temples, and had me up and dried before I knew what had really happened. This was followed up by a nice back and shoulder massage - with a handheld machine - that felt pretty good for what it was. $11.50 b/c I wasn't paying in cash. I'd definitely come back here again, but next time I won't chance the wait and will make an appt in advance. As I was walking out there were already 6 guys sitting waiting and more walking in. One last nice touch, HD TV's with DirecTV and remotes in each of the stations. I didn't change the channel as I was too lazy to reach up for the remote, but they had already turned on closed captioning so you could tell what was going on. A minor detail, but something I picked up on and appreciated. I'll amend to a 5-star after a 2nd visit and if the Missus approves of the haircut! read more

I had a really bad experience there yesterday and wanted to give myself some time to reflect on it before writing a review. First, the place is cheap. That's not a bad thing, but perhaps you pay for what you get. Second, I arrived and was told it would be about a 30 minute wait. An hour later I was still waiting as others who had called ahead were taken in front of me. One guy came in and said he had signed up for a wait an hour ago and decided to come back. Third, I had been there twice before, and well, the haircut seemed to ok at best, but I really didn't think they did a very good job and frankly I really wasn't very satisfied. Obviously, I didn't think enough of the cut to want to ask for the person again. Fourth, the level of customer service, attitude, and sense of appreciation for customers just doesn't seem to be there. As I waited, several barbers came out talked with their co-workers for as long as 10 minutes before then deciding to go on break and walk out the front door - leaving me waiting and left to wonder, how much longer would I have to wait? I felt like I was being avoided... The place has gotten good ratings by the press in Raleigh, but I have to wonder what criteria was used? Who voted? I never got a haircut yesterday, despite waiting an hour, two more customers walked in and said they had an appointment, and so after being next for 3 times, I felt it was like a third strike. I was pretty sure at least one of these calls came while I was waiting in their lobby, if not even all three! I won't be back. Of course, if you don't mind spending an hour or two doing nothing on your Saturday, waiting indefinitely, and don't really care about your hair cut that much, and getting a cheap deal is important, well... read more

Wow!! What an experience. Now I am just a poor ol' country boy from the Sandhills of North Carolina who happened into Raleigh today needing a haircut. I found The Guys Place on my phone while eating lunch and saw that their haircuts were only $12.00. That is what I pay my local barber to cut my hair so I thought, "What the heck, I'll give it a try." When I walked into The Guys Place I was greeted by a pleasant receptionist who had me sign in. Just a couple minutes later Tracy came out and called me by name and said she would be cutting my hair. She asked me how I wanted it cut and she follow the instructions explicitly. The hair cut was worth the $12. But that was only the beginning. After she finished she tilted me back and laid a warm towel on my face and began washing my hair. Now that is something my local barber would never think of. After my hair was washed, dried and styled, the best part came. Tracy opens her drawer and pulls out an electric massager and begins rubbing my shoulders. It did end there, but what an experience. I felt compelled to give her $20 dollars and felt that she earned every penny of it. read more

BOTH times, I arrive 5 minutes early, 10 minutes after my appointment time, someone walks in, with no appointment, [I heard the conversation] , and is taken right away! I enjoyed my experience at the Guys Place with Brittini this past week. Typically, I go to my regular stylist in Durham, NC but for some reason she was a no show. I was very skeptical about going back to the Cary location because my first experience was not too pleasant. Brittini took her time and was very thorough with my haircut. Although, I don't have a lot of haircut she treated me with care and gave me the cut I was asking for. The haircut was superb but the experience is the reason why I'll continue to go back to the Guys Place in Cary. read more

I visited the Barber Shop for my 3rd time on Tuesday, September 24. The first time, I was impressed, so I came back. The second time was not so good, but I thought it was a fluke. After my third visit, I'm seeing something very clearly - if you want your hair cut with scissors, you will want to go somewhere else. At a traditional barbershop, one would expect the stylist to have great skills with scissors. I do not mean my next statement to be insensitive, but I look like a mentally handicapped person with my current haircut. This is problematic for me since I am interviewing for a senior position with a very reputable company in a few days. I look like an idiot. I had to trim my hair myself where hair was left too long and in some places, it's too short. I don't think my neck line is right. I could go on. If your options are a Flowbee or The Barber Shop, I can't make a strong recommendation either way. If you're used to having someone who knows what they're doing cutting your hair, you're better off sticking with them. I do not like giving a single star. I wanted to like the place - I really did. It's a shame - the concept is great, but I have my own leather furniture and I can purchase peanuts for myself. What I can't do is give myself a professional-looking haircut. You pay just $12 + tips ! ... Well what do you get for that... Your haircut ends with a shoulder massage. And before that, you get a hair wash with tea tree shampoo which leaves your scalp cool(you will appreciate the feeling in summer). That is only time you will never get to watch the TV. All the other time, you can with some complimentary peanuts to munch on... The only thing missing here is beer. But, I am asking too much. A regular for the past 3 years. My stylist Heidi knows exactly what I want and throws recommendations at times when asked. Never had a disappointing haircut in the last 3 years. That should say something.. I recognize some folks' concerns about varying quality, but I've had great success when specifically requesting what I want. You can't expect a stylist to know how you like your cuts after one visit. That said, I've found the price for services rendered to be phenomenal. This lets me come in more frequently without worry, and allows me to stay clean cut cheaply. First thing I asked the receptionist when i called to make an appt was "who do you recommend to cut my hair." I get it cut every 3 weeks and having it cut right is very important to me... She then said, "Oh they're all good, so it doesn't matter." (Hindsight... That was my 1st sign to jump ship) I get there and I explain how I've been getting my hair cut for the last 10 years. I use scissors and not clippers. He challenged me stating he uses clippers just as well because his hands are too big for scissors. Long story short the haircut sucked! I can't believe the contrast from my last stylist. I'll never return. I am hoping I can find a place where they know how to cut a man's hair with some skills. I respect businesses and all they do to maintain their image but this place needs a personnel refresh. I am a guy with short, simple hair. I don't need anything fancy done whenever I want a trim every six weeks or so. For this, The Barbershop fits my needs perfectly. It is cheap, the staff have always been personable with me, especially the man I presume to be the owner, and my haircuts have always been what I've expected. The additional use of the hot towels and the back massages are a nice touch though they obviously don't make my haircut any different. I have been going to The Barbershop for four years now and don't intend on switching. I give four stars because the haircut suffices what I need, the price is right, and the staff have never given me reason to complain. I'm also not one to expect to walk in on a Saturday afternoon and not wait; so I call ahead and make an appointment. Why I didn't give five stars is because I have no idea how skilled the barbers truly are as my trims take a mere minutes and I am done. Most of the barbers/stylists are good and are easily a step above their competition in their price range. Nothing fancy, just a good clean cut in a reasonable amount of time. Do make an appointment on weekends. They are always busy. If you are late by 5 minutes you will have to reschedule. Do not expect a walk-in and sit down in a chair. There is always a wait of an hour. They do have coffee and peanuts in the waiting area to keep you occupied, but the seating is limited. Sports are typically on while you wait. Each barber is different and have their own strengths and weaknesses. Don't like how it turned out? Go again and see if you can request a different person. Once you find the one, request them when you call to make an appointment. I've been going here for the past few months and have finally found a few professionals that do really well. I watched as patrons with appointments walked in after me get their haircuts before me. It was annoying. After waiting 40 minutes, I finally got my haircut. You get what you pay for. I wanted to try a new place and saw the reviews, so decided to give this place a try. First off, I showed the lady a picture of a prior hair cut and then she started cutting. The end result was hair 10 times shorter than I asked for and that was no where near the picture. The sides are perfect but for the top, no where close. Basically, if you don't have short hair or don't like the close cut of clippers, this place isn't for you. As for my experience, I am used to talking to the person cutting my hair and connecting with them, and typically they ask if I want my hair shorter or if it's good at that time. At this place you do not get any conversation from my experience. The lady cut my hair in about 15 minutes with no conversation or questions at all, not once asking how I felt about the cut. Not everything is bad here. The towel was nice along with the shampoo and for the price it really is unbeatable if you're looking for a simple and short cut. Unfortunately that wasn't what I was looking for and was truly unsatisfied with my experience. The past two times I went here my haircut was bad in the same way so I can only assume I got the same bad hairdresser. She greatly exaggerated the outline around my ear and it'll be at least a couple days before it looks normal again. She soaked my hair with her spray bottle even though my hair was already wet from a shower. She barely talked to me at all during the whole experience and when she did it was only to criticize my posture. This place is expensive, full of employees who couldn't care less, and it will hopefully be a dojo soon. read more
