I was nervous to try out new hair salons after moving to New York. I was trying to avoid those excessively expensive Manhattan salons with a little too much of an ego for me to feel welcome and wonderful... After exhaustive research and getting consultations at a few, I just wasn't in love with any. I certainly wasn't ready to commit to what could potentially be my go-to place for the upcoming years! I happened to be biking in Greenpoint one day with my boyfriend and as we zoomed past Cutloose, I just happened to notice it and love the vibes it was oozing in the split second I saw it. I joked to him that "hey, maybe I should get my hair cut there!" Well, I looked it up and I was sold. Siobhan made the experience so relaxed and so wonderful, even for a designer without the cash to typically have this type of experience. She's hilarious and I felt like we were friends after five minutes of talking. Thanks for the sweet private DJ set HAHA, keep crushing your dreams girl! So exciting to see fellow badass women pursuing their passion and creating spaces for other like-minded ladies (and gents!) to hang out and look their best. Erica colored my hair (a six hour process that went until midnight, and not once did I feel rushed or uncomfortable) and I enjoyed every second of conversation with her. Thank you for giving me a color that so many other people told me was unrealistic! Siobhan Benson, with her talented team and gorgeous new salon are EVERYTHING. I am very lucky to say that this very talented (and fun!) lady has been privately cutting my hair (and my husband's and daughters') for many years. I am over the moon that she has opened a commercial salon space with which she can bestow her talent upon the masses... Well, honestly it IS difficult to share the secret of my success. It took me years of wasting money at high-end NYC salons to get results that ranged from just "meh" to terrible and panic-attack inducing to finally get tipped off by a high-fashion friend to the genius and creative talent that is Ms. Benson. This woman is at the top of her game, having done the most gorgeous and creative editorial hair for years. Maria Blair Serrano is the GOAT! I heard about her through a friend when I was hunting for a place to get my very first curly cut. I went in on June 11. Cutloose is a really charming, clean, beautiful space; all of the employees are SO friendly and clearly supportive of one another. They're all vaccinated, and they kept the door and windows open for ventilation-- so if you're vaccinated, they don't require a mask. Maria is chatty, responsive, and just a ray of sunshine. Most importantly, she is INCREDIBLE at curly cuts! She was delighted to give me my first, and she patiently answered all of my curly hair questions in detail, including routine and product recs. She could tell immediately what I was (and was not) doing with my hair and helped me accordingly. She teased volume out of my hair I didn't even know I HAD, and she created lovely, defined curls. My visit to Cutloose ended up being an excellent, and much-needed, "self-care day" whose effects I'm still feeling. A month and a half later, my hair is still healthy, defined, and bouncier than ever. Her recommendation for a gel saved my life during this humid, sweaty NYC summer. I travel from Jersey to Brooklyn to have Maria Blair Serrano take care of my hair because she is that damn good. I won't even go to the city to see friends sometimes but once Maria takes care of your hair, you'll go wherever she is. I'd book a flight to get my hair done with her if she ever moved. Also, my hair has never looked healthier. She took me from dark brown to blonde and she blends my hair color so well that even if I don't see her for a month because work is busy, my roots aren't drastically showing or harsh. She has also taught me how to take care of my hair by recommending products that will not break my wallet. She's incredibly talented at what she does & a joy to be around when she's doing your hair. You don't feel awkward or uncomfortable and she won't painfully yank your head around when she's working on you. Acasia Rose is my rockstar hairdresser, style consultant, product reviewer and friend. I have been her faithful patron for six years because of the quality in her hair cuts. She keeps current with cutting edge trends and techniques, as well as, delivering timeless no-nonsense hair cuts. She takes her time to carefully cut in layers. Meticulous. My hair is thin, straight, fine and has excessive oil. Acasia is able to cut in layers in all of the right places that actually transforms my hair. It has more volume. It has a little curl. And that is strictly from the cut. My hair is cut so well I mostly let it air dry. Acasia also takes the time to go over her salon's products. I have been introduced to a wonderful dry shampoo spray and paste to keep my hair looking fresh throughout the day. Styling cream for days when I want more scrunch. CutLoose is hands down my favorite salon in New York. The team is so lovely and their space has such good vibes, not least because they play great music all day on a nice set of speakers. The giant disco ball really adds some magic when the sun hits it in the afternoon and the whole space is lit up. During the pandemic this has been the closest experience I have had to being on a New York dance floor and brings back many happy memories. I get color by Celeste and cut by Siobhan and trust them both completely. I was nervous getting bangs for the first time and the team was very supportive and did an amazing job on the cut. It really feels like they know better what I want or how to style me than I do and I always leave feeling more myself than ever. The products they use always feel super light and I always leave with a bottle of color safe aloe shampoo and conditioner. Cannot recommend highly enough. Obsessed. read more

I came to cut loose randomly - I was walking around the neighborhood and decided in the moment that I was ready to get a hair cut. I had been growing my hair out from bald, and was so attached to my length that I was scared to get it cut. Amazing little spot! Everyone working there was friendly, cool, accommodating and awesome. The "vibe" was super laid back and the decor was lovely. Pretty plants to gaze at all over, fun balloons strung, floating up from the chairs and also some fun wares for sale. Cool candles, fancy fun nail polishes, great curation of hair products. Another plus for the great music on the sound system. I had Laura Estroff do my color and she really rocked it on my second double process towards my goal of ultimate ice queen. I honestly think it is some of the best blonde I've ever had done. I highly recommend. I already booked a cut with owner Siobhan for a couple weeks from now and plan on returning for more color in a couple months! Andrea is the person you want cutting your hair! The talent she has is indescribable. I had spent years trying to find a good hairdresser. after a friends recommendation, I went to see Andrea in their adorable, clean and cute salon. Mary has been coloring my hair for years and I followed her to CutLoose from her last salon because she is an amazingly talented colorist! I will not let anyone else touch my color, she is worth every penny and the trek from elsewhere in the city. She's also fun to hang out with while you get your color done. I have referred her to numerous friends who are also hooked, cannot say enough about her work and talent. Siobhan is awesome as well, I started using her when I followed Mary to CutLoose. This was my first time at Cutloose Bk. Based on a photo I saw of a pixie cut by Hailey, I took the chance Hailey took the time to listen before cutting and she really understood me and my hair type! ( straight, dense with bulky spots). I showed her many photos of what I wanted including a photo of my recent bad haircut. She did a great job! Especially considering what she had to work with. My previous haircut had absolutely no shape and had many different lengths. I believe Hailey is among the new generation of hairstylists incorporating the latest cutting techniques to achieve a modern look. I'm so happy with the result! I went to Maria Blair Serrano for a full highlight and it was just one of those situations where I knew when I left that day that she was going to be the stylist I come back and see again and again. Had an AMAZING experience with Maria and her assistant Giana! I wanted a dramatic change from dark brown to ginger/strawberry blonde and Maria made my wildest dreams come true! I am so in love her transformation. I've had bad colorists in the past and after my appointment, I only trust Maria. Siobhan is a rockstar at hair! I came here because I've always thought she had killer style and she has done hair for so many well known magazine shoots. She opened her salon and I thought I would give it a go. Firstly the salon is just fabulous! She has a Dj booth set up and plays her own mixes while you're getting your hair done (superb taste in music). She cuts your hair exactly as you ask and doesn't cut too much off (like most hairdressers do). She styled my hair beautifully for a friend's wedding and she makes you feel very comfortable. The best salon is Brooklyn BY FAR. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. Jazmin has been coloring my hair for the past 8 years and I literally just can't trust anyone else with my hair. Every time I leave the salon I have hearts bursting out of my eyes. I've been every natural hair color under the sun and it's all thanks to this amazing colorist.
