This is my second time going to CutLoose and again, I'm in love with the results. I decided to go for a shorter, edgier bob and add color. I felt confident in Siobhan's ability to cut my hair into the style I showed her due to her years of experience, and she nailed it. I came back a few days later and Terrance added blonde highlights to complete my desired look. Terrance is very knowledgeable and explains every aspect of the process. It was such a relaxing experience. In the end my color came out beautifully and my curls still feel healthy and bouncy. I had a blowout for by birthday, unfortunately I was quite disappointed. My wash was not pleasant, the water was cold, I got so much water in my ears it felt like I had an ear infection. The staff was not friendly, the blowout was lackluster at best. They acted annoyed at my presence. When I requested a strand of hair be curled there was obvious irritation from the stylist. I think the space is beautiful, I'm sure they are skilled in other areas (hence the positive reviews) but blowouts are decidedly not their strength. read more

My lovely boyfriend treated me to the best possible pick-me-up from the "when the f*ck will Spring get here"/starving for Vitamin D blues. I'm a no maintenance human, except for rare occasions, so I rely on a solid cut. I'd grown my hair down to my waist; straight, no bangs, and hadn't done anything with it in a year, so every day it just went up in a bun. Every. Single. Day. The boyfriend sent me their IG profile and said, "Check it out. If you like it, I'll take you for a cut." The salon looked awesome, and all of the hairstyles and colors I saw looked next level. So I booked a Transformative Cut with Siobhan, which was beyond easy to set up via their website. I came in with a few photos of what I wanted to try. She got exactly what I was going for and mentioned adding a Gloss, to just give it that extra va-voom (which it absolutely did). She knocked it out of the park. Came in on Saturday after reading so many great reviews on Yelp. I was able to book my service online, with less than 24hrs in advance, which is helpful when you remember something in the middle of the night when businesses are closed. The booking service collects a $95 deposit (may be different based on the stylist/service you book), and outlines their cancellation policy clearly. I scheduled with the owner, Siobhan and had a great experience overall. Reception was warm and I was asked if I wanted something to drink while i waited. They checked proof of vaccination at the desk and masks are optional for vaccinated patrons. My hair was washed, the cut was quick, but thorough and Siobhan styled it with a cute messy wave at the end of the service. Totally not her fault, but my hair flattened out by the time I got on the subway, so I will post pics of my hair once I have restyled it at home. They suggested a gloss and some products at checkout, but were not pushy when I declined the service and only picked up one of the products. This place is stunning and there may have been an actress sitting next to me :). Go here only if you are looking for an edgier look or are willing to let your stylist take the lead (They are the experts after all). It is pricey but I think the service met the expectations and price point. Its also awesome to see a completely woman led and managed business! This will most likely be a 1-2x a year thing for me when I need a good chop and defined layers. read more

A magical hair salon located in a beautiful space with plenty of social distancing. I wanted a pixie shag cut so I made sure to do my research and that's how I found CutLoose. The receptionist was so sweet on the phone and in person. My stylist, Celiann, took her time and understood the look I was going for. She checked in every step of the way, which is crucial for those with already short hair! She also used a razor cut which I much prefer over scissors. Not many salons do this! After months of isolation (no thanks to covid), I decided I needed to do something exciting, and the first thing that came to mind was getting my hair done. CutLoose was very highly recommended to me by a friend, and so I paid the salon a visit. My first visit was in July, when I had my hair cut by Hayleigh, who brought my long, stick-straight hair back to life with layers. It looked wonderful and I kept receiving compliments on the cut. I visited the salon again in November, after realizing how much my hair had grown, and had my hair trimmed and permed by Siobhan. I absolutely love how my new perm looks -- I didn't think it was possible for my hair to hold curls so naturally especially since it has always been so stubbornly straight. I also genuinely appreciate that she also gave me a couple of tips on how to style my 'new' hair. In terms of covid-related procedures, the salon is doing a great job in ensuring everyone's safety. Everyone wears a mask (surgical masks are available for customers upon arrival), the door is kept open for fresh air, and there is more than ample space between customers (I can't recall being within 15 feet of another customer). First let's talk about the elephant in the room, "how they handle care with covid being on everyone's mind"- the establishment is extremely clean, your temperature will be checked at the door, you're required to wear a mask at all times while in the facility, as well as the staff. Seats are 6 feet or more from each other. When I went it was only four of us in the salon. I'd say this place is extremely cautious and clean! Now to get down to some real business- my experience; this place has now become my new favorite salon. I love my new haircut and I wasn't worried about my hair not being what I asked for, while getting my cut. Hailey was the best! She walked me through the cut and what steps she will take to make sure I left out of there content, in which I left beyond that! Cuts do range in prices, I paid $160, but don't be discouraged by the price because the result will be worth it. I'm definitely keeping this place in my favs for future cuts. read more

The vibes in here are always right. I've been here a few times before but I was especially surprised by my service today. I was feeling super dissatisfied w my hair bc it was overtoned and dull and muddy. And I went to Jackie for the first time and she worked absolute magic. Zero stars but not an option Well....I followed this Salon for a view week on IG and I liked what I saw and made an appointment for highlights and cut. I was very exited because it was a brand new cut for me. Siobhan, the owner, gave me a quick ruff cut so Ellie, color person, can match highlights for cut. She did highlights on the roots, being pulled away over and over to work on another person, and because I was told it's going to be full head, I asked her if she is going to do more than just roots. She then took a brush and did a few strokes on my full length of hair (not wrapped in aluminum like the roots) and after she finished, they washed my hear. I guess that's considered "full head" for them charging $350. After my wash Siobhan (the owner) cut my hair. I was exited and thought the cut looked okay. She then gave me a mirror so I can look at the back of my hair and I saw the layers being not good like chopped off in pieces but I thought it's just because...I don't really know what i thought and I was already in there for many hours. I even told her how some hairdressers don't know how to do layers and she assured me she was going to make me look great. Oh boy oh boy was I wrong....worst layers ever ($200 cut). No matter what I did, nothing could hide them...even into a ponytail you can see how bad the cut is. I cried when I got home and looked into the mirror and called the salon. This is the reply I got after sending photos: "Thank you for the photos. Siobhan would like to apologize for the layers in the cut. It was a bit of a hectic day and your cut is unfortunately not indicative of her usual high standards. You will receive a full refund for the cut and Siobhan would like to offer you to come back in Tomorrow, Monday, or Tuesday if you are available so you can receive a cut that is beautiful like you deserve. Let us know if you can come in and if there is anything else we can do for you." "It was a bit of a hectic day"?? REALLY....that's the excuse!! Usual high standard?!...well have a look at the high standard cut!! Appreciated it no thanks. Came to get a bang trim today with Gabby (?) and she was genuinely the rudest hair stylist I've ever had. She didn't introduce herself or ask my name, didn't ask how I wanted my bangs trimmed, was dead silent the entire service, and just walked off in silence once she was done. The receptionist was sweet but that experience left a weird taste in my mouth, I wanted to get a full haircut with someone at Cut Loose in the future but I doubt I will now. read more

This is review is for a haircut done by Mattiekay. She styled my hair flawlessly. I basically told her what length I wanted and she could decide the rest. Im so happy with how my hair turned out! But most importantly, Mattiekay was so pleasant and easygoing. I've had a fair share of awkwardly intimidating salon experiences where the hair stylist was bit judgy, unwelcoming, and rushing to get me out the door. That wasn't the case with Mattiekay - she took her time styling my hair and was so positive and kind. The front desk ladies were also equally sweet and pleasant. I also love the way the salon is decorated and appreciate the curated vibe that the owner was going for. Overall a great experience and a positive vibe. I will definitely return! read more

She's able to tailor my highlights depending on how blonde I'm feeling like going that particular day and always nails the tone I'm looking for. I went in for hair color with my old colorist, Mary Ducey, who left THANK GOD. The owner tried to trick me into seeing another colorist there, and continued to bash my colorist and bad mouth her. The owner, shavaun was also drinking wine the whole time and just spewing negativity. I was really uncomfortable. I could tell she just had dollar signs in her eyes and no genuine care for me, what I want, or how I want to look. Thank god I found my happy colorist Mary Ducey and am back to"natural". I would say beware of this place, high turn over rate, covid dance party's, money hungry with no value on customer experience. And shame on you foe bad mouthing Mary! She built that place for you. Well Mary Ducey is just my dream colorist. I cannot recommend her highly enough. Last spring, she took my dark brown hair to a gorgeous honey blonde, with a more natural root blend than I ever thought possible. Due to my travel schedule this last fall, I was forced to go elsewhere before the holidays, and OHHHHH what a mistake that was!!!! Consequently, I made an appointment with Mary the week after to fix my blonde-gone-wrong, and she was my hair superhero once again. Mary has been coloring my hair for years and I followed her to CutLoose from her last salon because she is an amazingly talented colorist! I will not let anyone else touch my color, she is worth every penny and the trek from elsewhere in the city. She's also fun to hang out with while you get your color done. I have referred her to numerous friends who are also hooked, cannot say enough about her work and talent. Siobhan is awesome as well, I started using her when I followed Mary to CutLoose.
