My partner and I enjoyed the 3 hour ride on the Allegheny Special in the dome car. The staff were…read morehelpful and friendly and the seating upstairs comfortable (I'm 6'4", and sometimes that's an issue). When we were seated, we were offered a drink and a bag of potato chips. After that, they handed out the boxed lunches we had pre-ordered. We each had the veggie wrap. We both thought it was outstanding. Because of the large bag of chips we had just had, we each ate only half of our wraps and took the other half home for dinner. I was impressed with the flavor, freshness and quality of the wrap. It came with a very good pasta salad and a chocolate brownie (excellent). The beverage service was well done, with staff coming by periodically to offer drink refills. A variety of soft drinks and coffee were complimentary throughout the ride. And we got to take our glass home as a souvenir. The ride itself is scenic for part of the way. Leaving Staunton out into the countryside did involve a fairly long stretch where there were trees on both sides, but you couldn't see into the distance. Then things opened up. There was periodic recorded commentary about the history of the area, about trains and some about the mountains and other sites we passed. Halfway through the trip, we stopped and they explained that half of us in the dome needed to get our things and go downstairs for a few minutes so they could reverse all of the seats (so we wouldn't be riding backwards on the trip back.). That process seemed to take over 20 minutes (a long time), but it did make the outside viewing on the trip back much more enjoyable. The ticket isn't cheap, but it's a good experience, the staff are nice and hardworking and the food (what we ordered) was quite good. If you are looking for a train ride with incredible views, you likely would prefer the Amtrak options, including between Denver and Emeryville, CA. But this is a pleasant diversion for a few hours. We went mid-April. I suspect the experience is different in the fall and at other times of the year.

My ride left Goshen, on time, at 3:00PM on Friday, Oct 2, headed for Staunton on a 2 hour journey. We made it as far as just South of Buffalo Gap (in between the entrance to Elliot Knob and Shenandale Skeet Club) We had to side track because an Amtrac train was headed towards us at 60MPH. We sat on the side track for, at least, 15 minutes until the Amtrac flew past us. We then reversed course and followed the Amtrac back to Goshen. The trip ended at the beginning of the area I was excited about seeing (the track area between Buffalo Gap and Staunton) as the route we road was parallel to RT42. You can see the exact same views from your car driving to Goshen. The tracks move away from RT42 just before Buffalo Gap. The ride write up shows the train traveling thru these areas. We never made it. Other than my first train ride, I wasted $280.00 on a lounge car. Do not book a ride with the expectation of traveling the route listed because it may not happen. The lounge car and the staff were great, thats the only reason for 3 stars. I feel cheated.

We rode horses on the ranch, Francisca was the sweetest guide & really made the experience. Our dogs loved walking along the property watching the long horns, cows, & sheep. The sunrise was absolutely stunning from the rocking chairs on the porch. Cute cowboy aesthetic! Everything was clean & tidy. The extra paper towels, soaps, and trash bags came in handy. Such a sweet extra amenity. Celena & Susan were so kind and responsive. We met afew of the other staff along the property and they were all so sweet and courteous as well. This wasn't my first time riding but even if it was anyone could ride him. I enjoyed the trail ride throughly I wanted it to last another hour it was so peaceful! There's even a vending machine if you want to get a candy bar or a drink for your flight, but remember that the rules on liquids still apply here. We visited during the Veterans day weekend. My husband has been really interested in camping but…read moreI'm not a fan of roughing it.. So I booked one of the small cabins here. We showed up at night and it was so dark when we rolled in. The moment you pull in there are rabbits EVERYWHERE. They should advertise that more because it is so unique! My only issue was that I was afraid we would accidentally hit one. Thankfully we got to the cabin without incident. We started bringing our bedding and necessities in to the cabin and noticed that one of the outlets was broken so we didn't want to use it just in case. The next morning we went into the office and let them know about the issue. They were surprised and really apologetic about it. Luckily there were other cabins available and we got moved into the one closest to the restrooms. So we switched locations and settled in. In the office you can purchase rabbit food so of course we did. As soon as these guys see that bag they will all hop there way straight for you. I had bunnies all over me. It was magical. I saved some of it for the rabbits hanging out with us at our campsite. That evening we had a wonderful little dinner by the fire with our bunny neighbors. We got a small refund that we didn't expect. I think because of the outlet issue. This is a great place to visit. We will be back.

This campground was fun! Sad we only got to stay one night…read more Highlights This campground has a river that runs through it and a beautiful waterfall. They also have a big heated pool, mini golf, a camp store, you can rent golf carts, and they also had a fishing pond with loads of fish. You were only allowed 3 fish each person. They also have tons of rabbits running all over the campground. You can go tubing in the river which less than a foot deep it seems. Downside: The sites are small and there's really no room to park your truck. They do have pull through sites and tent sites. The site we were on the electric kept going out which shouldn't have happened. They said they wouldn't get anyone out to fix it until the next day which we were leaving the very next day. It was a somewhat muggy night that we had to spend without air conditioning on. We made it work! The restroom/shower house needs to get updated, it was very dirty and out dated. The only thing that was a challenge was how to get to the campsite the road was skinny and hard to see people coming the opposite way. A recommendation I would call this campground "Bunny Falls". It would attract more campers there. If we are ever in the area we might try this campground again but ask for a bigger site. I was able to take some pictures. We were at site 83.

The cottages (there are 4 to choose from) are well appointed with everything you need and lack exactly what you don't need in a place like this (phone, tv, or internet). The cottages are in Dyke, VA about 20 minutes from Skyline Drive so it's very easy access for hiking. It's about 45 minutes to Charlottesville where you can shop for groceries, go to dinner, or just hang out if you need to reconnect with the city. The cabins have jacuzzi's, full kitchens, grills, backyards with fire pits, indoor fireplaces and board games. They also have a salt water pool in the main house that you can use (and I recommend after a hike!). Personal touches make this place what it is: they've thought of everything. We also loved the fresh cookies that were dropped off at our house and Chuck and Stew always write us personal notes to welcome us to the house. Looking for privacy? The cabins are secluded and you enter them via a keypad on the door so you don't have to check in or out...just come and go as you wish. I highly recommend this place! And will be back in the fall.
