Onto earrings: this was not a pleasant experience as we were ignored my the male associate. So upon asking for help he decided to assist another lady who happened to simply walk up. We received assistance for another sales person and when I asked about formal purses, she even escorted us down to get assistance from a real gem, Alyce! My go-to section is always the shoes, as all guests are courteous of each other within the small aisles and the deals are unbeatable. For example, I found these OC sneakers that are never on sale! They have a good selection of Sam Edelman and Jeffrey Campbell, which is surprising as those are recent bestsellers at Nordstrom's and typically wouldn't get passed down to clearance. Though I've been coming to this location for years, the employee I spoke to really motivated me to write this. The kindest older woman checked me out, immediately curious about my purchase because she needed shoe recommendations. It felt like she genuinely cared about my opinion and was happy to have a conversation. In retail, you know this is far and few. She assured me about the return policy when I asked about it and helped me quickly locate my rewards. I unfortunately cannot remember her name, but if it helps, she said she has an upcoming knee surgery, which I wished her the best on her recovery. She made my night.

Sometime around the year 2000 I feel like department stores in general sort of started turning downhill and no longer had the pizazz they used to carry in the 90s, Nordstrom however, seemed to move with the times and remain classy and elegant. I always loved coming here to go back to school shopping back in the early 2000s and honestly I'm happy to report that not a lot has changed (in a good way). This is still the best place to park and walk into Oak Park Mall, hands down. Nordstrom is still pristine, clean, and has this really nice scent to it? I don't know if that's nostalgia playing games on me from my HS days but it just feels nice to shop here. On the day I walked in recently I was on a mission to visit H&M to pick up some back to school staples for my 1st grader, but thought I'd check out the kids section here first just in case there was a steal on some mini boden or something. Their kids area is packed with adorable clothes, and while I did see some decent deals on the sale rack everything was a bit pricey for my regular back to school haul so I continued on to H&M. All that being said though, I still enjoyed shopping here and seeing what they had. It had been a long time since I'd taken the time to peruse at Nordstrom and I'll be back - it's still probably the best department store in the metro!

The store itself is fairly clean and well stocked, but I've had a few really negative experiences lately when I've chosen to not use the self checkout. I usually use the self checkout and in those instances this is for sure a 4 star location, but when I have to interact with someone it gets weird. One time recently the cashier was checked out to the point of choosing to just not interact with me at all. I was being my usual chatty self but she just stared at me - okay, whatever. I then tried to redeem a manufacturer coupon for a defective cereal I purchased at this same store a few weeks prior and they told me it won't work because the system won't take it. I was pretty peeved since I'd waited about 20 minutes in line so I could use the coupon, so I explained calmly that it was given to me because of a bad item I had purchased here and the manager gave me some sass before comping the cereal. For around $4 I felt like the whole experience was just insanely complicated and dumb. Yes, dumb on my end for even caring, but also really dumb on their end for not just comping the $4 and making an already weird experience weirder. Will I return? Ultimately yes since it's the closest Target to me, but there are other options and this spot is becoming less and less fun to shop at.

You truly cannot appreciate how disorganized, messy, gross and disgusting this store is unless you see picture proof. If somebody had told me that a tornado hit it I would've believed them. I would've also believed that it was perhaps going out of business. I would have also believed that it was secretly a garage sale, or perhaps that somebody had come in and just pushed things off of shelves and displays in a fit of rage for funsies. There was literally a mirror in the middle of the floor on an aisle where people should be able to walk. I also spotted a broken glass jar of something on a low shelf. This place is just begging to be either condemned or be sued by multiple people when they trip over things and break their legs and/or accidentally scrape cut open glass and get hurt and need a tetanus shot. Honestly, I can't believe that this place hasn't been condemned- it is THAT BAD!! *I went back a few days later and I did find a cute toothpaste/brush holder for only $5. The cashier was nice.
