This company was sent by Lowes to install granite countertops. They failed to glue down a small countertop and when the owner came out to correct it, he put some type of sticky silicone under the lip but did not glue it down. They refuse to return to fix the problem or refund any of the money that was paid up front. The owner set an appointment to return to "look" at it and he never showed, never called and will not answer his phone. Definitely not a quality contractor. read more

The front office staff was helpful and the electronic measurements of our kitchen layout were spot on. As a general rule countertops are not cheap but I could not believe my luck because the installers were cheerful, talented, and knowledgeable. The two installers worked hard and quietly, and did a superb job. Kudos to Mr Woo the head installer and his many years of experience for going the extra mile to ensure installation perfection. My wife and I are pleased to have had a very pleasant experience. I also wanted to mention that our countertop is L-shaped and long, requiring two pieces of countertop that have to be butted together at the seam, but now I have a difficult time even finding the seam. read more

If you're considering these guys, just DON'T. installed a countertop and didn't install a bracket for our dishwasher which required nearly 25 calls to get resolved. Guys came, installed the bracket and mounted the dishwasher BUT they did it wrong. Dishwasher now hangs at a slant, impeding the new cabinets. The person I spoke with at Custom Marble was rude, impatient, and told me that they "never mount dishwashers" so I would have to call someone else also "we mounted a bracket and that's what you paid for" so basically they screwed me out of $150 for the job which they didn't do right. The guy I talked with said twice "I don't understand what you don't get about this!" His attitude was "I've explained it to you and you're too stupid to get it. He hung up on me without resolving anything. I could go on, but they are shameless and I should have read the reviews before using them. DO NOT give Custom Marble Design any business!! There is not enough space on this format to share my experience in whole. So in short: We hired CMD through lowes to install our quartz countertops. There were many job site errors and the crew was EXTREMELY rushed to get to their next job. We were left with an unfinished kitchen due to some of their errors and left with a very dirty kitchen. It took me a very long time to clean the dirt, dust and grime out of my cabinets, counters and floors. I called Anthony at CMD to discuss the problems we had, one of which being they didn't cut our outlet holes wide enough to make them accessible. I went over my list of issues with Anthony only to have him cut me off left and right and not actually let me communicate the problems that needed to be addressed. I asked him not to cut me off and let me say what the issues were. He said he was just trying to answer my questions, but how would he know what my problems are if he didn't listen?! There was never any apology for the poor workmanship, errors or inconvenience. He said I wasn't his customer and I didn't pay him anything, Lowes did. I told him that like I teach my kids, when there is a disagreement everyone takes a turn to talk, now is my turn and he can have his later. He laughed and then he promptly put me on a 15 minute hold only to get back on and not address ANYTHING I had brought to his attention previously. Shortly after he put me on a brief hold to then bring Keith onto the phone. Long story short, Keith handled things (or rather didn't) just like Anthony. Keith kept talking over me and not allowing me any room for dialogue. He said his team could come out in a couple of days to cut the outlet holes bigger and would that work for me. He also said that he had pictures that our kitchen was left clean when the crew went to their next site. And since I didn't take the time to take pictures, he had "proof" and I didn't. So therefore I'm the liar, essentially. (nice, right?!) He continued to interject and not answer any of my questions or statements by talking about his team coming out for the outlet cutouts. So finally I told him that I wasn't answering his question until he answered any of mine. Without a word, Keith and Anthony promptly hung up on me. End of story. Thank God for Lowes, I know they'll have my back. CMD tried throwing Lowes under the bus for my problems. But it doesn't matter how you try and look at this situation or what color lenses you put on. I highly recommend Custom Marble Design in Middletown MD. My daughter used them as the supplier of her granite through a Lowes purchase, and related how happy she was of their service. So when I needed to replace my countertops, I contacted them directly. Tana and the office staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the products. I switched my choice of granite twice, and they were very accommodating, did not have any issue at all. Excellent customer service and beautiful countertops. We used Custom Marble Design for a quartz countertop for an island. They were so helpful in understanding our vision and choosing the right piece to go with our cabinets, etc. They went above and beyond our expectations at each step of the process, from the contract, to the template, to the installation. Exceptional Service! Not sure the basis of some of these negative reviews, but our experience from the very first phone call to the install of the countertops has been extremely satisfying. Our adventure had started at a big box store and after much outright erroneous information and being sent to the incorrect supplier, we were getting fed up and ready to cancel our order. Then, CMD entered the picture and gave us hope. The gentleman who performed the initial measurements was very professional and took his time to carefully explain exactly what we were to expect during the entire process. Since we were having problems with finding the stone on display at the Big Box, Tana went out of her way to get us the exact stone we had chosen, and was extremely professional and interested in our satisfaction. On the day of install, the two gentlemen were very clean and the stone fits like a glove. It looks great and I have a very happy wife. As a person who owned his own small business, I am aware of the importance of good customer service and this folks provided everything we expected, and then some. read more

Service was meh. They will not help you once they have installed your product. Quality of work was sub par. After having been through multiple renovations and dealt with several local granite companies I can say this place is below average. They have very poor customer service. Everything is not their fault or no longer under warranty. We have had stains and cracks in their product, for which they take zero responsibility. Other homes we have lived in for years with no problems in our granite. If you use Lowes I think they do installations or possible fabrication for them. Ask and if possible use a different company. This is the worst customer service experience I have had in all of our house renovation projects! We ordered cabinets and countertops for our bathroom through Lowe's and the countertop work was done through Custom Marble Design. Not only did they give us the run around about the time frame of template making and installation (which caused a problem with setting up our contractor's schedule), but 15 minutes after installation, I noticed a brown stain in the center of the countertop, called the company, and was told that the installers would come back out to do a "drill and fill" to remove the stain. I asked if the installers would be back before 4pm to do the work (I had to drive my son to an activity in the evening). I was told that she couldn't answer that question and that someone would call me when they were on their way. Well, at 3:15 I still hadn't heard from them, so my husband called the woman at CMD to ask when they were coming back to fix the countertop. Another woman took his call and said that the installers would NOT be coming back to fix it and that we'd need to go through Lowe's to have it fixed! This is after we paid thousands of dollars for a stained countertop! To say that my husband and I are beyond mad is an understatement! DO NOT use this company and if you order through Lowe's, ask to have another company fabricate and install the product. read more

We purchased counter tops from this company and, within short order, regretted doing so. The woman who runs the office was difficult, insulting and unprofessional. The owner was surly and indifferent to our frustrations about the many changes they made to the dates and times of installation. Overall, I would never deal with them again. read more

I am summarizing events related to my experience with Custom Marble Design. (CMD) I can provide additional information or clarification upon request. We remodeled our kitchen in June- July 2012. CMD, as a sub-contractor for Lowes, installed the countertops and sink. In August 2013 we noticed the sink was wobbly and the sealant around the rim was turning black. To their credit, CMD agreed to come out and fix the problem. Two men came out; one clearly more experienced, the second appeared to be an apprentice. The serviceman in charge told me he needed to place some wood blocks between the underside of the sink and the countertop frame for stabilization. He did this and then resealed the perimeter of the sink. To protect the sealant he placed blue masking tape across the top of the sink and left instructions not to operate the sink for 24 hours. This was about 300pm. He reviewed the placement of the support blocks with me. The next morning I left for work about 1000am. Before leaving for work I ran the dishwasher. When I came home there was water everywhere. The cause? To properly secure the sink the serviceman had disconnected the wastewater piping from the bottom of the garbage disposal. This pipe also carries wastewater from the dishwasher. When I called in the next day CMD defended itself by saying (a) I had not followed instructions about re-using the sink after 24 hours (b) had been informed and directed to the disconnected pipes under the sink and (c) they are contractually prohibited from doing plumbing work and "it's carefully written in the contract". None of these defenses is effective. I offer the following responses. (a) Using the dishwasher isn't really using the sink. Further, waiting another six hours would have had no bearing on the situation. (b) The serviceman defended himself by saying he "showed me his work". While we may be in a "he said/I say" situation, I will claim with complete confidence that the CMD representative never pointed out that he disconnected the pipes, nor at any time did he ever say "you'll need to re-connect those". I would further maintain that reasonable person would conclude if a service person disabled a system in order to make a repair, with no attempt to re-enable that system, that there should be an explicit statement to that effect. I will swear on my children's souls and bet my entire wealth that the CMD representative never did that. (c) The service contract does say that they will no plumbing work. Specifically the contract states that they will neither dis-connect nor re-connect any plumbing features. Therefore, why did the serviceperson violate the clearly stated conditions of the contract? CMD claims that disconnecting a system is "not the same as reconnecting". This claim is indefensible. You cannot choose which parts of the contract you will follow and which parts you will not. Based on my experience, I would definitely not recommend doing business with Custom Marble Design. read more

I had ordered my countertop through Floor and Decor. I had the pleasure of this company do the fabrication and install. This isn't to say there weren't some hiccups along the way, but the way the hiccups were handled far exceeded my expectations. I received a call within 48 hours of placing the deposit to schedule the measurement. The hiccup arrived the day of the measurement. I hadn't been given a time frame that they would be there. Around 11:30 I called to find out an approximate arrival time. Turns out the secretary that had scheduled my measurement didn't put it on their schedule or send me the appropriate paperwork from their end. Tana was extremely apologetic for the error and arranged to have someone out within the hour. An apology and reschedule would have sufficed for me. The turn around time was fairly quick based on what I was anticipating. I was expecting 3-4 weeks, it was more like 2 weeks from measurement to install. The crew that came out for the install were polite, professional and early. I am a stickler for promptness. I was told they would arrive between 10&2, I received a call at 8 that they were about 30 minutes out. With I-95 traffic being what it is, ended up to be more like an hour but completely understandable. They arrived around 9 and were finished well before 10. They also offered some great advice for finishing our job. All in all I can't sing their praises enough. read more

I would like to recommend Custom Marble Design. After talking with several marble dealers in Fairfax County, Custom Marble Design was recommended. I contacted Custom Marble Design and spoke to Tana Barnes, Office Manager. Tana was very helpful to me and assisted me with picking a granite pattern for my kitchen renovation. She quickly scheduled for the measurements and within days had the installation scheduled and installed. My husband has since completed the kitchen renovation and I love my new counters. The installers from Custom Marble were very professional. When ready to complete our bathroom, I will return to Custom Marble. read more
