We signed a contract in late summer 2022 for a major home renovation. After a 4-month wait for the permit, we cycled through three foremen in under two years. Communication was poor, and the owner had to be constantly involved. Despite our timely payments on all draws and change orders, vendors were not always paid, and we were threatened with liens by one vendor and harassed by a second. After two years, only 40% of the project was complete. We always had an open relationship with JC Smith, and I don't believe their leadership are bad people. But they could not maintain quality staff or manage finances, leading to unpaid vendors and stalled work. We ultimately had to terminate the contract at a significant financial loss to our family and hire a new contractor. But we had no choice, and the experience with our new contractor has been night and day.

They took extraordinary steps to protect our floors and carpeting and even covered our outside walkway to protect it from damage. Ben was with us every step of the way and listened to what we said, read between the lines when needed, and offered his expert opinion in a constructive and extremely helpful way. He guided us through the difficult task of selecting the vanity, floor tiles, shower tiles, countertop, faucets, etc., etc., etc. To us, the choices seemed insurmountable, but he deftly used his years of experience to make sure we ended up with exactly what we wanted and that it all went together to make our vision a reality. The result vastly exceeded our expectations. You absolutely, without any doubt in the world, cannot beat the level of craftsmanship every artist, because that is truly what they are, brought to the job. Jay was like Picaso or Michelangelo in his attention to detail and it was obvious that he took great pride in every brush stroke, wood cut, and bead of caulking that he laid. Travis and the plumbers were all outstanding and went so far as to send somebody to get our new bathtub so they could stage it to help us pick the absolute perfect placement for our new floor mounted tub filler. Ryan, the tile artisan, went the extra step of removing the individual river rocks from the sheets of tile and hand placing them for the shower floor. He didn't want any lines to show from the tile sheets and wanted the placement to look more natural. He pulled off an absolute masterpiece. The electricians took time to discuss the placement of the lights, switches, and fans and made sure that everything was perfect. The shower installers were consummate professionals and went over everything we needed to know to care for and protect the glass shower. There were a couple of younger guys that were somewhat new at their jobs. Each one of them broke every Gen Z stereotype. Not only did they display excellent technical skills, they also communicated well, treated us with respect, and worked as hard as the seasoned pros that were training them. This is a true testament to the high standards Mountaineer Kitchen and Baths instills in every one of their employees and sub-contractors and the importance they place on treating the customer right. There is no need to consider any company other than Mountaineer Kitchen and Baths for any home remodeling you have in mind. On a scale of 1 to 5 stars, I would rate them a 25 if I could!!!! Worth every penny!

I had a bathroom remodel back in 2021 - 2022. I removed a shower and jacuzzi tub and replaced with…read morea larger shower with tile/grout as well as new flooring. The job was scheduled to done in one but ended up being four months. Below are major and minor shortcomings I experienced during the project: - One of the tile guys (contractors hired by Mountaineer) over hungover and admitted to my wife he had partied the night before. - The tile guys did not finish the tiling, (did not do side and back of a knee-wall) which forced a Mountaineer employee to come out. He did the best he could, but he is not a tile expert. - A wall outlet was installed upside down and not flush with the wall, which is a no-brainer. - Initially the shower arm was not straight and visibly angled to the right, which I had to point out to the workers to fix - another no-brainer. - The stain in ceiling that I reported from the toilet removal took over three weeks before someone came out to look at. - A Mountaineer employee who initially came out to repair the ceiling stain and adjust the crooked shower faucet handle did a horrible job as he initially set the faucet handle so it looked straight, but it was so loose it would have fallen off after the first use. When I pointed that out to him, he was not happy and said it could not be adjusted better. However, later that day, a second Mountaineer employee out who was able to satisfactory do the work that first employee could not do. - The height of the glass was discussed when the glass people (came out to measure. I specifically said I wanted the taller glass option to match the higher tile that was installed. When the glass guys (contractors hired by Mountaineer) came out to install, one of them admitted to me that the glass size written on the work order was originally 76 inches but was cross out and 72 inches written in its place (someone at Mountaineer made that change without my knowledge. - When my wife and I initially came out to Mountaineer to get the project started, we were told all glass used by your company was 3/8 inch thick all around. However, the glass that originally was delivered was only 1/4 inch thick (glass wall) on top of it being shorter than promised and had to be reordered. - The glass guys were scheduled and rescheduled to come out a total of five time before the work was actually completed. Various issues included glass parts not being ordered, glass not ordered to size promised, weather/schedule conflicts. - Last but not least, when the old jacuzzi tub was being taken out of the house, it got dropped on the bare hardwood floor leaving a deep gouge. Now, the reason I am doing a Yelp review nearly four years later is because a few months ago back spots started to appear in the grout on the floor. These black spots could not be scrubbed out. They appeared to be under the grout. The grout also appeared to be thinning out. I decided it might be best to have the shower re-grouted. I hired a knowledgeable contractor. When he dug out the old grout on the shower floor, he discovered there were a lot of "soft" areas. The shower floor was never sealed properly and allowed water to seep in. Additionally, as he was digging out some of the grout on the walls, he discovered grout was evenly filled in. Some areas of grout were only 1/16 of an inch thick with a large empty space behind. Lastly, when the shower was installed, we were told the grout never needed resealing as the sealant in the high-quality grout I was promised was used (Spectralock), was already mixed into the grout. The contractor I hired to fix Mountaineer's shoddy job said that was untrue. He recommended applying sealant every 3 - 5 years. In hindsight, I don't believe a high-quality grout was ever used. I would not recommend Mountaineer for any remodeling job.

We were selling our home and needed our cabinets to be brought back to life. We met with Chris and he was a huge help. We were able to tour the premises and everything was explained nicely. He steered us away from a certain look that he said might become 'dated' after a year or two so we were grateful for his honesty. So, since we were selling the house, we went with the basic off-white color as you can see by the photos. LOVE THEM!!! I believe it was his wife and possibly son (?) who came by the house and meticulously removed the cabinet doors and hardware. They marked everything with blue painter's tape and placed the hardware on the shelves or in the cabinets so as to have an efficient re-install. It took them a while but from what they were saying, it just makes things so much easier and more efficient when re-installing the newly refreshed doors and drawers. The kitchen looked so much better and more refreshed that I almost, almost, didn't want to move! It's a small, local business so be patient with them. They don't have a huge staff but they have a great staff.

The reviews don't lie, if you're in need of any kind of water restoration this is your guy. Mike and came out a few hours after I called them, my wife and I had got to our cabin after a week long of freezing temps to find our toilet had cracked an the water had been running for a day, we had about an inch of water in the bathroom, and both bedrooms were soping wet. Mike and reassured us that they would take care of everything. Gave us an instant quote over the phone and were honest and upfront about everything. Mike is not out to get you, he is a very honorable guy who's making a living helping people. He has no interest in overcharging you. Mike and his partner Eric got started right away, pulling up the carpet, removing the vinyl bathroom floor, and testing the moisture levels in the walls. Within a short amount of time they had fans under everything and large dehumidifier set up. They assured us they would save everything they could and that it wasn't as bad as we originally thought. Mike returned the next day and checked to make sure everything was working properly, tested the moisture levels, and adjusted some of the fans. Mike and Eric were thorough and professional throughout the entire experience. They saved my cabin, saved the floors, and even saved the carpet. I can't talk enough about the work Mike and Eric did and how hard they worked to get it done. In the end, I was very happy I called Mike, overall it was around $1,000 and was within dollars of his phone estimate. For the amount of work done, the hours spent, equipment used, and how little damage was actullay done after Mike got to work, it was money very well spent and don't usually say this but was happy to write that check. I literally couldn't give a higher recommendation.
