Spoke with representative Steff and explained that I had a hard thick glaze of creosote that had ignited in the chimney the previous day. Steff, who was pleasant and professional during our conversation, said she would try to get a technician to my home today. I was quoted a price for the job which was fair and reasonable. Thirty minutes later, a Kiwi utility truck entered my driveway. Technicians Gabe and Regan introduced themselves and I gave them an overview of my woodstove and chimney. They wasted no time and immediately went to work. They thoroughly cleaned the chimney and removed all the glazed creosote; they went on to clean the stove, stove pipe, chimney cap and screen. A thorough inspection was performed, and I was happy to hear the clay flue was in good shape. Upon completion of the job, they vacuumed the area around my stove and cleaned up loose debris from outside. These two gentlemen did a great job and where very personable, knowledgeable. Gabe was at the ready with information on products currently on the market for upgrades and equipment that enhanced safety of wood burning stoves and chimney liners. This afternoon, I received an email from Gabe with my inspection report and before and after photos. What an absolute satisfying experience from start to finish with Kiwi. Even then he could have said your whole roof needs to be redone , but he suggested a patch would do the trick. I recently discovered I had yet another problem with the roof again. It was near where he worked on it. I thought maybe I should call Jon. We have a mutual acquaintance who told me Jon was incredibly busy. Not surprising. I also have seen advertisements for Uxbridge residents on Facebook and Instagram. I figured he may have had to limit his area and that he was more than likely inundated with various roofing jobs. I thought maybe my job would be way too small for him. I had a 6-8 ft section of my roof that had gotten spongey. I have huge icicles that slam down hard on the roof as well as ice dams that I try to keep ahead of. While shoveling snow off the roof this past winter I discovered the problem. I still had his name in my contact list so I decided to give it a try and text him. I told him the problem, and that it wasn't an emergency. I also told him I had a vacation and wouldn't be home for a week. As soon as I got home I got a text from him the next day saying that he'd come and take a look at it. He did! After his assessment he said he'd get to it soon as possible. I wasn't expecting that to be 3 days later! He sent some of his crew and they put a new piece of plywood , roofing supplies, and new shingles and made it look like nothing ever happened. They were here for about 3 hours. I texted him to say thank you and to let me know what I had owed him. Let's just say what I thought I was going to have to pay , His number came WAY under what I had expected When I told my wife that we're gonna have to deal with the roof, she said are you gonna get a few estimates ? I said "no I have Jon Rigali!!! " And these days when customer services is sometimes sorely lacking it was refreshing to have such an amazing follow up , dedication, and a feeling of confidence that whatever I needed, roof repair , new roof, etc that Jon will take care of it !!! Full disclosure: I did not proceed past an estimate with MTS. MTS came out at my request to give…read moreme an estimate regarding what appeared to be an old leak. We found this when removing wallpaper. MTS came out and, to their credit, quickly diagnosed the problem which required new lead around chimney ($775) and 3 new pipe boots on the rear roof pipes ($825). MTS went on to say we needed a new skylight installed for $2800 - the estimate stated that they were "not responsible for interior skylight finish." The total estimate was $4,400. I have had 2 estimates since then and both companies agree with the assessment of the chimney and roof pipes - although I feel it's worth noting that MTS made this estimate from the ground versus getting up on the roof. The other companies indicated that we did not need a new skylight, but if we needed to the same exact Velux would be $1500. I'm writing this to say - do your homework. We could have paid $4,400 to MTS but are paying roughly $700 elsewhere.

I called 5 of them and waited for responses. A manager at Golden Group was the first to respond. I made an appointment with him on the following Saturday and by then 3 others had responded and met me on that day. Long story short: I chose Golden Group and am still pleased I did. They finished the job in 2 days with a large, industrious crew who were incredibly hardworking and did a wonderful job cleaning up. They found the leakage problem under the old shingles on rotting planks of wood which they replaced before adding new shingles. It looks so much better and I would use Golden Group again!
