I moved to Waltham a few months ago - the place I had been going for haircuts was jam-packed this afternoon, and I didn't have the time to wait. After today, don't think I'll be going back there. I went to this salon for a haircut and had the most awesome experience. I asked Tamar for a shag haircut and she did exactly what I wanted her to do. Once she saw the picture I brought she knew what I had in mind and she followed through with my request perfectly. The minute I walked in there she acknowledged me and made me feel welcome, which is important if you are a newbie to a salon. She is knowledgeable and the utmost professional, and by the way she talks you know she is also an artist who puts thought into her craft. My hair is very short and very thick - therefore it requires a lot of texturizing. After a really bad experience - the worst cut ever (in Newton) - I was really happy with Mara's professional touch. She cut and texturized my hair perfectly, and explained what she was doing and why. Also, the price was right. I was so pleased that the stylist here listened to my suggestions and talked me through a good looking haircut. I've been to many different salons but none of them have ever come close to Custom Cuts. Tamar is awesome! She always takes the time to answer my questions (I've never been very good at styling my hair) and she has given me a lot of tips that have helped me to take better care of my hair. She is very friendly and I don't think I've ever met someone who was as talented as she is. I get my hair both cut and dyed, and she never fails to make me look great. They just started a new service where you can have your eyebrows done and I tried it today. I have thin eyebrows that don't have a lot of shape but they are looking so much better now. Wish I could say the same as last reviewer Derek. We actually used his review as reason to go here. Sadly, I cannot disagree more. My husband went in for a haircut today. He has medium long hair. He wanted few inches off the bottom, to have it tapered on sides of his face, and some light layers in the back to add a little body. Sounds simple enough for a professional. He had photos with some ideas of a bit shorter style and the stylist did next to nothing. It really just looks like a minor trim. Really annoying. Didn't get the name of the stylist so no help on whom to steer clear of. No repeat business from us for sure. read more

I went yesterday to get a hair cut and an oil treatment I bought with groupon at Custom cuts in Waltham. I would say this is the place I have been looking for years! It is clean and the stylist is extremely experienced and as sweet as possible to be, the place not only provides superb service but also the warmest environment you can find. I also got my eyebrows done, amazing! I usually go to Newbury St. or other fancy places, but nobody has been as good, I haven't felt as good in years! I could tell she's has years of experience in this industry and truly made me feel relaxed. My hair cut is amazing, I also got a treatment, yes she did suggest it (but I knew I needed it). I did purchase the treatment which I could do at home once a month, and I loved the shampoo & conditioner she used on me so I bought that too. With my hair cut + hair product & gratuity = very very reasonable. Great salon! I hadn't had my hair professionally cut in about a year. It was a nightmare, dry brittle ends, uneven and terribly layered. Custom Cuts sorted it all out for me. My hair dresser really knew what she was doing and walked me through the whole process. She gave great hair care advice and wasn't pushy about products or services. Hair cut was quick, efficient and incredibly well-executed. I got exactly the hairstyle that I wanted at the really unbelievable price of $17. My dense straight hair has so much more movement and style now. This place is great and they really take good care of their clients! I've gone in to see Tamar a few times for cuts and coloring. She always explains to me what she is going to do before she does it which not only makes me feel comfortable but also shows how knowledgeable she is in hair care. I went in today for some highlights and even though I was the last client of the day, I was treated as if I was the first client of the day - this type of customer service is hard to come by. I didn't have a good experience here and feel cheated by the many good reviews. I gave it a few chances but every time, I had an uncomfortable experience at the salon. The phone keeps ringing off the hook and the stylists would stop in the middle of a cut to pick it up. Very unprofessional. It's not just a short conversation, it would sometimes extend and the lady who runs the place talks slowly and talks a lot. That all is fine if they give amazing haircuts, but both my recent experiences, I came out feeling like crying and hiding my face until my hair grows out. I gave the stylist a photo of what I want, but she doesn't seem to understand and gave me something completely different. Now, my hair is too short and I look like a teenager. I saw Tamar as she had great reviews and thought I would take try her. The first time she was very attentive and informative and a reasonable cut as the previous style was grown out. The second time I left wondering what is she doing! She tried to make the hair do something with her hands NOT with the scissors! Growing hair out is a challenge but I asked a lot of questions the last time and she still butchered it with thinning shears vs.designing with a precision cut. I am at a disadvantage not being able to watch her because of visual problems and I really doubt even after three visits she knows my name. She didn't listen and my HAIR is a MESS. $20.00 each time with $5.00 tip (my choice) and I should have just left. Totally regret going back!!!! read more

Tamara was awesome! She gave me a great shampoo and conditioner treatment that only costed 5 dollars extra from the haircut. She gave me lots of tips and pointers for my hair that I never knew and my hair is looking healthier and better than ever. My cut is amazing, she knew how to work with my wavy hair so I can just let it air dry and it has a nice shape and looks good. She was very confident and nice and I'll definitely be going back there. I went here based off of all the rave reviews and was really sad when I left. I went in for a cut and style, she did my hair rather rapidly then plopped me under the blower to "style" it (never asked how I liked it). The bothersome part was that she left the salon, without giving me a heads up or anything, and didn't come back for 50 min! The blower was left on way to hot, but I stuck around thinking she might have a great idea.Once she got back took my hair down and said I was all set :( Left with a mop of unstyled hair and a cheap hair cut. read more
