I had an extremely unprofessional and inappropriate experience with a groomer at this location…read more This was my first time visiting this specific location, and it will absolutely be my last. When I walked in, there was no greeting. Instead, I was immediately met with, "I thought you'd be here at 9:40," in a tone that was rude and unnecessarily authoritative. While examining my dog, she made an unprofessional comment about his face looking "raggedy." I had lightly trimmed the hair around his eyes so he could see, which has never been an issue in over six years of getting him groomed at PetSmart. The situation escalated when she attempted to charge a $50 dematting fee upfront, bringing my total to $173. This is completely inconsistent with my long history of grooming services. I have never paid more than around $130 total, and any dematting fee has historically been about $10 and applied after the service, not before. Even after I clearly stated that I was fine with shaving any matted areas and wanted a low cut, she still insisted on the $50 charge. When I calmly said I would call corporate to clarify the fee, she responded that she was "uncomfortable" with me doing so. That response was inappropriate and immediately raised concerns about the legitimacy of the charge. At that point, I no longer felt comfortable leaving my dog in her care and asked for him back. Her behavior escalated in a way that was completely unacceptable. She began making loud, aggressive "oo-ing and ahh-ing" noises and stood over me while I bent down to retrieve my dog. Her coworker had to step in and tell her to "back down." As I was leaving, she handed me my dog's collar and then falsely claimed that I "snatched" it from her. That accusation was completely untrue and felt like an attempt to provoke or escalate the situation further. It came across as gaslighting and an effort to create conflict where there was none. This entire interaction was unnecessary and handled in a way that was hostile, unprofessional, and concerning. A simple pricing question turned into pressure, intimidation, and false accusations. I left feeling disrespected, uncomfortable, and concerned about how both I and my dog were treated. I will never return to this location.

Taking the donations to the MDSPCA, I was able to see just how awesome the staff still is, how clean and organized the kennels are, and just how beautiful the building is. The dogs awaiting adoption were clean and looked comfortable in their cozy kennels with toys, blankets, cots, etc. Of course, I wanted to take them all home with me, but Shadow's my bestest boy and being 13 1/2, he's my one and only for now.

The facility was clean, warm, and welcoming, and it was evident the cats were well cared for--many were in foster homes, which we loved to see. What really stood out to us was how thorough the adoption process was. They carefully vet adopters to ensure the best match for both the pet and the family. We appreciated the thoughtful questions and attention to detail in finding the right fit. Our two kitties had a wonderful foster, who we got to meet, first on a zoom call, then in person on the day of adoption, and we were given all their medical info, plus a solid plan to help them adjust to their new home. It's been lifechanging having them with us, and we're so grateful for the care and dedication of everyone at SPCA Hampden. Thank you for everything!

I was given a business card for East Coast Academy of Dog Training. The best recommendation ever. Initially, Paige was unmanageable on a leash. Her fear and anxiety caused her to be hyper reactive to wildlife, sounds, sudden movements. She would not respond to commands and she pulled me wherever she wanted to go. The first time Rob walked into my house, the whole energy changed. Rob has the most wonderful voice. He is soft-spoken. He never raises his voice. He has endless patience. Paige loved him from the first moment. For the first several visits, we worked inside on basic behaviors - come, sit, wait, etc. Paige caught on pretty quickly. So did I! It was as much about me learning as it was Paige. Rob always leaves detailed notes covering the lessons of the day. And consistent practice between visits is paramount. Then we began working on leash training for walks. Rob has given me valuable tools to make walks a positive experience for both Paige and I. We are still a work in progress and, weather permitting, I make a point of walking every day. Paige is so much happier and so much calmer. After 5 visits, I kept telling Rob that I needed more training. In his wonderful, calm way, he said that I didn't need more. That I had the tools to be successful and that he was only a phone call away if I needed to talk through anything. Rob never pushes additional visits if he feels you are ready to fly on your own. He has decades of experience. Go check out his website for additional detail. I appreciate Rob so much. He has made both Paige and I so much more confident. I cannot recommend Rob Hirsch and East Coast Academy of Dog Training enough!!!!
