Beautiful Park. Very close to many activities including Custer State Park, Wind caves, Needles HW and Mt. Rushmore. Park had full hook up and very large space between units. Property is well maintained and extremely quiet day and night. Would definitely stay here again Restaurants are only about two miles down the road. read more

First thing is that the sites are very nice and the facilities are very clean and well maintained. Great space between sites and grass. Fire rings, volleyball net, propane and excellent water pressure are all big pluses. Two stars are because they say they have WiFi and they do, however it's only available for about 1/2 the property. I complained about it and was told to unplug and enjoy nature and my neighbors. If we had not prepaid our stay we would have been gone. Lots of other parks to choose from in the immediate area. If I didn't feel like I had been conned I would given them 5 stars. read more

Beautiful RV park close to the entrance of Custer National Park. The town of Custer is great. I still give all stars but if you have sites 59 or 60 the guests drive past with their rigs at 40-50 mph and rocks for into your rig and campsite. They could do better enforcing the posted 5 mph limit. read more

This campground has full hookups and is conveniently located. It is minutes from Custer State Park. It is a short drive into downtown Custer with shopping, restaurants, gas stations and a grocery store. It is an easy drive to Mt Rushmore and Crazy Horse. The campground is well maintained and very clean. The bathrooms are very clean and nice. The spots are spacious and most back up to beautiful trees. We had a picnic table and fire ring which were in a well maintained grassy area. It was very quiet at night. The people running it are very friendly and helpful. You can tell how much they love their campground. We had an excellent time and were sad when it was time to leave. read more

PEACEFUL. Unbelievable S P A C E between rigs. we stayed in the premium spots, but even the lower priced spits had good space. Backs right up to National forest which was great to take my dog into and let her off leash. Very close to a cute little town with several good dining options and a grocery. Owners super nice. Campfires allowed. Bags of ice for$3 on the honor system, we found that convinient. Great place. Took off 1 star because the water going into our rig was yellow. read more

Comfortable RV park with nice pull through sites and great views. Staff was very friendly and helpful and provided some good info on how to make the most out of our day. Showers were very clean and hot. The campground is 3 miles from Custer and at the gate of the state park. I was very excited to see they had on site car rental as I did not want to drive our RV around the Blackhills. Car rental was fairly priced and the car (a 2008?? Chevy Cavalier) was clean and delivered on time. The car rental appears like a seperate enterprise but was coordinated through the camp ground. Unfortunately the issue came with the car rental. We went to the Rushmore lighting ceremony and got out of Keystone around 10:00 pm. By the time we got back to Custer all the gas stations in town were closed and I could not refill the fuel. We had driven about 100 miles and in the little Chevy used about 5 gallons of gas. Gas was at $3.50 at the time. We pushed out of camp around 6:00 am and I did leave the car about 60% full. Well here comes the expected call about two hours later with a garbled VM saying we are being charged $60 for fuel as a penalty for not returning the car full. I actually thought I mis heard the VM because no one would charge $60 for 5 gallons of fuel so I called the number back to discuss. The proprietor of the car rental (I think they rent ATVs as well) was aggressive and rude. I told him I more than expected to pay for the fuel but $60 was not fair. He started yelling at me about his time and the contract (which is vague and does not specify charges), well his time by my calculations was being charged at $260 an hour as the gas station is 3 miles away and round trip with fill would be 10 minutes. Just left a bad taste to an otherwise nice stay. Bummer. read more

Stopped for 2 nights in South Dakota and Custers Gulch couldn't have treated us better. We arrived late at night around 1am, a map to our site was nailed to a bulletin board. The next morning we checked in and the staff was super friendly. The showers were very clean and the campground views were amazing. Very quiet and one with nature. We love this campground, both as tent campers and brand new RV'ers. It's always quiet, has plenty of trees around to provide some shade, and well maintained. RV pads have 15, 20, 30, and 50 A service and some include water. There are also cabins for rent and they have lots of shaded tent sites. Every spot has a picnic bench and fire pit. There's bathrooms with toilets and showers, a dump station, and a coin operated laundry. They even sell propane. There is a very small store for necessities. It's a beautiful campground only a few minutes away from Custer's State Park, has easy access to some trails in the area for biking or walking, and is superior to the others in the area. The owners are simply wonderful people. read more

This is one of the friendliest RV parks that we've ever encountered. The host and hostess really go out of their way to welcome you and help in any way they can to make your visit to this historic area the best! We were here primarily to visit Mt. Rushmore but just happened to arrive on the one day a year that the Crazy Horse Memorial does a special "blast" in honor of the sculptor's birthday. We wouldn't have been aware of this event if it wasn't for our park host. The RV sites were nicely laid out with aspens and other trees surrounding the area. Very pretty. Thanks for the wonderful stay and we'll be back again when in the area. read more

My wife and I just completed our first RV adventure. Being rookies we had no idea how to pick an RV Park. Luckily an acquaintance had stayed here and gave us a glowing recommendation. If you are looking for peace and quiet in a beautiful setting then this is is the resort for you. Large, long, level sites with a picnic table and fire ring and large green area between sites. All sites are back in and set against nature and well maintained. It is close to all the great attractions including Mt. Rushmore, Chief Crazy Horse, Sturgis, Deadwood, etc. To top if off the camp hosts are friendly and knowledgeable about the area. read more

This a very quiet park with FULL hookups which is very nice. Clean bathrooms. Friendly staff. But not suitable for kids. No pool, playground or even decent wi-if. Your kids will not be happy. People without kids will love it. read more

We held our family reunion at Custer's Gulch RV Park in July 2017. We reserved many RV sites, tent site, and cabins, plus paid to reserve the "clubhouse" and covered picnic tables. As others have said, management was just plain mean. Ran people off when arriving early from out of state "come back at 2pm" even when the site was open. We were told we could park near clubhouse for 5 mins to load/unload. They ran everyone off immediately in a very rude manner! It felt like we were hoodlums - always under surveillance. Charged us extra for our son when we reserved a cabin that slept 6 - we were only 3 people. Our credit card was hit for an extra $60 with no explanation. RV sites had sewer connection so far away it took 3 tubes to reach. Tent sites have no water anywhere near, nor toilet facilities. Appalling treatment of guests. read more

BE WARE! Sent an email asking Custer's Gulch if they had tent sites with water and electricity available for four nights. Got an email reply saying that they had sites available for the nights I needed. Called the next day, referenced the email exchange, and made the reservation. Arrived four days later and Custer's Gulch does not even have tent sites with water and electricity. Also if I wanted an electric site they were going to charge me 25% more than I had been quoted when I made the reservation for water and electric. Owners did not care at all that I was quoted a lower price. I drove off and went some where else. Only thing that they did right was refund the full amount, including the deposit. Even that though, when I asked for a receipt for the credit, I never was given one. read more

Park is clean but does not have a lot of trees. I was only able to get an Electric only spot. The water to fill your RV was not well marked and we had to drive around several times to try to find it. We did finally find it. Had reservations for 3 nights but left after the first night to a much better park with full hook ups and very accommodating. read more

I am not aware you can have two different Dates for Cancellation. Looking at your Web Page it Stated Five Day Cancellation. That Only seemed to change when you have set up a Third Party Billing Company. Just one more reason to be concerned about doing business with This Park, third parties make their money bottom line, not interested in Integrity honest Business Dealings. read more

The location is beautiful, the site is surrounded by trees, and there is a beautiful pond in the middle. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The grounds are well kept, the bathrooms were incredibly clean. Showers were available, and the water was hot. We only stayed overnight, but really enjoyed our evening cooking while the kids rode their bikes. There were several other activities available for those who might stay longer including a volleyball net, and a clubhouse with access to TV. It was our traveling companions who found the site, in their opinion the prices at Custer's Gulch was very competitive with other parks in the area, including being cheaper then KOA. We would definitely stay at this park again. read more

This was a fabulous campground! Very clean and well managed. It has nice, really big RV spots that were very easy to back into. It is back away from the road (16A) so you don't get any road noise. Campground hosts were very helpful with referrals when I had issues with my new travel trailer. It is very close to all of the attractions and convenient to the town of Custer for shopping and dining. read more

I rented ATVs this place twice, the first time in the summer the experience with Custer's Gulch was okay and the ATVs were really fun. We rented them a second time in the fall and did not have a good experience at all. The owners where rude, disrespectful, and belligerent. The lady said herself that their main concern was making a profit, this point was made time and time again in dealing with all of them! If anything happens to the ATV they won't hesitate to charge your credit card money, even if its a small amount expect them to take out $1,000 dollars saying that it is to cover the potential profit lost when fixing the ATV. I'm not sure why they are in the customer service industry when they clearly hate dealing with customers. I would not recommend this Custer's Gulch and next time I will go elsewhere to rent ATVs. read more

We pulled into this RV Park and were excited that the RV spots were large and lots of grassy areas our dogs would love. There were two RV's in our party. I tried to book for three nights for the RV's, but was told they could only accommodate us for two nights. I said that was fine, we'd take the two nights. We noticed in the morning that there were quite a few open RV spots so my husband again asked if we could stay a third night. Again, he was told they were full. He mentioned the open RV spots and said we would be happy to move if they had another spot for both RV's to move to. They said yes, then they could accommodate us. On the day we were to move, we went in early to see what spot to move to. (There were a lot of open ones). They said to come back at 11 am. That put a crunch in our time to go site seeing, but said ok. At 10:45 we were back and Elaine, the owner, was there and said we would have to come back at 2pm to find out our space and move. My husband explained we wanted to go sight seeing and if the space was open, couldn't we move now. She said she didn't know if the space was open or not. My husband said if she gave him the space number, he would just look and see if someone was still there or not (there were. She said that was an invasion of privacy and she couldn't. All of her comments were made in a snotty manner. We ended up having to come back at 2 to move. She put us in a site that the people had moved out of early that morning. Definitely made our extra day of sightseeing short. Several other RVers in the park also said they had problems with her. The laundry facility consisted of 2 washers with only cold wash and 2 dryers. It is a good sized RV park. We had to wait to do laundry and there was someone waiting for us to finish so they could start. The only trash dumpsters were way on one end of the park with no trash cans anywhere else. If it wasn't for Elaine, we would probably go back there because of the large sites and green grass. Unfortunately, due to her we won't. The only bright spot at the front desk was Amber. She was friendly and helpful. read more

Nasty female owner of this park. I rented a car from this place from the owners son, Tim. He couldn't be nicer. He operates his rental car business Custer Rental Cars out of his parents RV Park. Tim was so nice. Unfortunately when I returned the car his parents were there not Tim. They wanted to charge me for the gas since I didn't bring it back full ... No problem, that's standard practice. What is not standard practice though is when his mother told me it would be also a 50 dollar penalty on top of gas apparently disclosed in 5 point type on the 2 page contract I signed. Tim verbally never told me. As ridiculous as the attempted charge what bothered me more was her rudeness when she told me. Not " oh I'm so sorry and here's why we do that". She was just nasty sounding. Tim"s father was trying to be kind but she was unbelievably rude. She even swatted my arm when I told her I would mention this experience on social media. We are so glad we stayed up the road at Big Pine Campground. Much prettier park with much nicer people. read more
