Pretty impressive. Nice little general store as well, a pool and a very nice area for the kids to play at. They sell propane, almost anything you need. It was almost level and had a picnic table and fire pit. We spent a lot of time sitting outside and there were no bugs or mosquitos. They have pit toilets and spigots for water. It was very clean, well maintained and quiet. The walk to the lake was down some easy stairs and there was plenty of shoreline to fish. It is minutes from the entrance of Custer State Park and about 30 minutes from Mt Rushmore. The town of Custer is maybe 10 minutes away and has gas stations, a grocery store and restaurants. We stayed 3 nights and wished we could have stayed longer. We highly recommend this campground.

That wasn't working with our trip schedule so I was really excited to find I could reserve a single night at this campground. It's located only a couple miles out of the city of Custer, so really close to gas, groceries, and things to do. The campsite was really nice, it had a place for us to back into and then a walkway down to where you could pitch your tent. There are no showers at this campground, and other facilities are minimal. There is a porta potty and a faucet with running water outside. This was the priciest campground we stayed at on our trip. I reserved it online and it was around 30.00 a night. Plus the park entrance fee is 15.00. It is too bad that the most expensive campground we stayed at had the least amenities. The lake was beautiful, though we really didn't get a chance to enjoy it at all. Overall, it's definitely roughing it a bit more than other campgrounds, but it's clean and next to a beautiful lake. I wouldn't be opposed to staying here again in the future.

There were trees providing some shade so it was nice not to sit and bake in the sun. The view is beautiful - you're really on the Needles Highway (87). The bathroom facilities are top notch. I was told they have been remodeled over the past year. If I had to say one negative, it was that we were unable to get a late checkout time so we paid for an extra evening to checkout 2.5 hours late. We will be staying here next year!

Renter Beware! Reserved a specific cabin (#7) for this years 2025 Sturgis Rally. I made the…read morereservation 1 yeat in advance with a deposit. Upon arrival, without notification, they Cabin 7 to someone else. I specifically reserved it for the convenience of easy access and ample room to part both my truck and Harley. When the front desk people told me they moved me to another cabin behind #7, they said someone else needed that cabin because of camping gear and closer trailer access. They cabin they moved me to did not even have enough room for both my bike and truck. When asking for an explanation, Twila, the manager said "I dont like your attitude and if you don't like it, stay somewhere else". Even after reserving a specic cabin with a deposit, they don't care. I traveled all the way from California and Twila knew that finding new accommodations under $1000 a night would be impossible. Never trust the cabin you reserved will be available and be prepared to ask to leave if you dont like it!

The "lodge" tent has great food for purchase- we weren't disappointed by any meals. Pricing is a little high but quality is good. Wait times to check in or get service at the desk are sometimes long. Pros (we stayed in a tent without a bathroom): Unlimited firewood & starters S'mores every night Quiet- not a party vibe Bathrooms kept clean Spacious tent Nice bedding Charger and flashlight to borrow Fun games to borrow Cons: Bathroom towels weren't as luxurious as the bedding was Bathrooms are not heated- even though shower water is hot, room feels chilly Shower needs to be pulled in to turn on- saving water but chilly at times Lodge was chilly also- have to ask for heaters to be turned on even when it's 45° outside Our tent was FAR from a bathroom Wood burning stoves have constant issues with the flue grate getting full and setting off smoke detector... staff taught everyone how to manage the fire but never mentions cleaning out the flue constantly. This was by far the biggest annoyance.

The tent with a private bathroom is good, had to burn a fire to keep warm 2 nights. Bit of a thunderstorm one night and the tent was flapping around all night. The restaurant is good, meals at night ok but the cook can't scramble an egg to save his life, overcooked to the point of being small hard bits. Overall a good experience and may try UC at another location.
