On hot summer evenings like we've been having the last couple of weeks, nothing hits the spot or cools you off like ice cream! This ice cream stand is one of my family's favorites. I usually stick to the traditional soft serve cone (twist) but my wife likes trying different sundae flavors. I also love their hot foods. Their burgers and hotdogs hit the spot and beat the clown and king franchises, if you know what I mean. Plus crinkle cut fries!!! My favorite! I know that we will be making a few more drives out past the beautiful Kinzua Dam to visit this gem. read more

When I went to the Custer city drive-in it was great customer service but their food was so pricey. I got a large shake and chicken tenders for 15 dollars. They also insisted me to tip, which I thought was pretty rude. read more

Great stop on the way down the interminable highway through Pennsylvania. 40 flavours of soft serve? Normally you only get to choose from three! The chocolate/vanilla twist still came out on top, but the mint was a close second. Strawberry flavour was reminiscent of that strawberry milk you got once in a while as a kid - tasty when your palate was agog for candy, a bit kiddy now that you're old. It's a true old school drive inn that reminds of you of old time Americana great friendly staff with good food amazing milkshakes that will have you coming back for more whether you're from the area or driving through this a must stop!!! Cute country road-side stand. At first I thought it was just going to have ice cream (because I mistakenly read "Custer" as "Custard"). Well, they have ice cream and a whole lot more..... burgers and sausages and dozens of sandwiches and fries and rings and tacos and chicken tenders..... I have no idea how so many things come out of that tiny kitchen, but everyone eating seemed quite happy with their meals. Since I stopped at what I thought was an ice cream stand..... ice cream is what I had. A hot fudge sundae made with chocolate custard. It was HUGE.... and at $2.99 for a medium, quite a good deal. The Upstate Farms custard was super creamy and delicious. The fudge was tasty and warm, but not so hot that it turned the whole sundae into a sad soupy mess. And, when I whined (just a bit) about there not being whipped cream on my sundae, the friendly teenager behind the counter gave me a huge squirt at no additional charge. I was all smiles. read more

I'm a sucker for these little independent roadside food stands that you can find in towns where they haven't been squeezed out by the big franchise chains. They're funky, and each one has a history in its own community. (Okay, granted, they do tend to be pretty similar, but at least they're not run off on a giant photocopier the way the big chain locations are.) I also like the independents because I like variety in my food, and these places each have their own menus, so it's not like you get the same 12 (or whatever) choices that you get at every other location of the same chain. The Custer City Drive-In is more rewarding in that department than usual. Oh, sure, they sell ice cream, burgers, fries, and onion rings like you'd expect. What I didn't expect was options like buffalo chicken salad, or cajun chicken burgers, or side dishes like deep fried cauliflower, mushrooms, or banana pepper rings. I've seen sit-down restaurants with fewer choices. If you're a variety freak like me, then this place is definitely worth checking out. The downside of these places is that the quality of the food can be uneven. The time we went, our curly fries and cauliflower were a little bit overdone, and my cajun chicken burger was just kind of randomly spicy, rather than the blackened Cajun chicken breast I was hoping for. (It wasn't bad, it just wasn't authentic. Nor, for that matter, all that spicy.) And, for the sake of those who aren't familiar with this kind of fine dining establishment, there is no inside seating. Actually, you don't go inside at all: you order through a window. There are a couple of nice benches out front, and some picnic tables out back, but it was chilly enough that we chose to eat in the car, which is probably what most people do anyway. There is a washroom in the back of the building, but you have to ask in the front to use it. read more

This spot is a local institution. Whenever I'm in the area I like to stop in for lunch and huge ice cream.

Throughout my many visits to Pennsylvania, I have always wanted to stop here to get ice cream, as it is right on Route 219. Well, I stopped and was very glad I did! Not only do they have ice cream and custard, they have tons of food. I ordered a hot fudge sundae with chocolate custard. The custard was very rich and creamy, and the hot fudge was warm and delicious. At $2.99 for a medium sundae, I will definitely be stopping back to try more items on the menu the next time I go to Pennsylvania!! read more

This is a nice local tasty freeze. It has good food, good service and employees many local teens during the summer.

Not sure if it's the machines or the people that prepare the soft ice cream but I found that they serve a very inconsistent product. My first cone of the season was fabulous... rich and creamy. A week later I tried another "twist" expecting deliciousness but was disappointed with a very soft, watered down product. My third soft serve cone last week was also a disappointment. The product was way too soft, a little grainy, and not the creamy, rich cone I had at the beginning of the season. read more
