My wife and I were visiting Astoria for a day out and of course, after a long day, we decided to find some food. We found this spot just driving around and decided to give it a shot. I went for the fish burger which had so much flavor but not too overwhelming. It was so good! I thought I had a made a bad choice but quickly changed my mind. I'm always a fan of crispy fries and they definitely didn't disappoint. There is outdoor seating, nothing too fancy. Getting the food to us did take some time, but it's a pretty small place and lots of people ordering so I don't blame them. I'd say 5* as it definitely is worth the wait! Make sure to get one of the ice creams. My wife loved it! I I wanted the chocolate vanilla mix, but they didn't have it and I don't do well with just vanilla so I won't touch up much on it. I stopped by The Custard King for dessert after having lunch nearby. Because The Custard King also served burgers and other savory goods, it reminded me a lot of Foster Freeze back in my hometown. Oh, nostalgia. I'm used to Midwest style frozen custard (concretes), but unfortunately I haven't found a place on the West Coast that has gotten the texture and consistency quite right. I was pleased to find that The Custard King was pretty spot on! The custard was thick and smooth but didn't melt as easily as normal ice cream or Gelato would. I got a small cup of custard with hot fudge and cookie dough bits, which more than satisfied my sweet tooth. My only complaint was that they only had one flavor: vanilla. Perhaps that was their shtick, especially given the amount of toppings that you could get on the custard. Lastly, customer service was totally fine. The server didn't go out of her way to be super hospitable, but she was nice to me nonetheless. read more

So this place was pretty shocking, I thought this would be my least favorite on our tour of fish and chips in Astoria. Not only did they come out the winners in price, (you cannot beat their prices- $14 for a 4 piece fish and chips and $4.50 for a fish taco), the fish was super lightly battered, which is how I prefer it, and their fish taco was also top notch for the price. We were too full to get any of the Custard and unfortunately they are closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays so we did not get to go back but we really, really wanted to go back and eat all of the things on the menu! I do not think this was frozen custard. Usually frozen custard comes out of the machine on to a frozen slide. It is very thick and full bodied. What I bought came out of a soft serve machine. Their sign caught our eye and we thought we'd give it a try! It's a good place to go for frozen custard. It low key reminded me of McDonald's vanilla cone just a little sweeter lol. Don't get me wrong though, I do like McDonald's vanilla cone! They sell burgers, hotdogs, fish and chips and more. I saw someone get a milkshake which I will definitely get the next time I am in Astoria. I will try their food next time. They have an small outdoor seating area which is convenient and a few parking spots. There is also a bunch of street parking nearby. The only thing we were dissapointed in was the swirl of ice cream. I happened upon this place a number of years ago. It was great! Today, many years later, I found myself in Portland with time to kill. I kept thinking about that creamy frozen custard and decided it was worth the drive. I hopped in the rental and drove 2 hours to get a frozen delight. About an hour into the trip I started wondering if it was still there, would they be open? I arrived to find it just as I had remembered it from years ago. I bought my custard with a blueberry topping and ate it in the car before hitting the backroads for the long trip back to the city. Customer service is trash. I came here to support a small business prior to the dinner rush (4:20 pm). The three workers never acknowledged me, due to the three of them having to navigate a customer from OnPoint, who dictated the terms of a refund, as she claimed "I work at a bank." Instead of asking her to step to the pick up window (less than 5 feet away) and allowing me to place my order, not a single statement from the three ladies. I left knowing even if my order was fulfilled at any point, I wouldn't have enjoyed the item after having waited 10 minutes before leaving, let alone being acknowledged. I will go to Dairy Queen where I expect the minimum standard of being acknowledged and the opportunity to be indoors. The OR coast struggles to find sufficient employees and I understand some circumstances require the attention and time of one employee, but I don't understand the need for three to address an issue all while simultaneously ignoring the only other customer in line.
