If I could give this store 10 stars, I would! I didn't realize how much a size-inclusive bridal shop is needed until I started my own hunt for a wedding dress. This store was my first try-on and I'm so glad it was! I opted for the VIP experience which included my own private suite, food and drinks for me and my friends and if you can financially swing it, DO IT!! My friends and I had the BEST time and nothing felt rushed, pressured or anything. I felt like a princess in the best way and it was great time to try on every style, ask questions, get educated on timelines. It was perfect. I LOVE that this store exists. I'm not technically plus size, but, you would never know that from how other bridal stores are. In many other stores, I'm not even able to put on dress samples because they are too tiny. It's very important that every bride be able to have the experience of actually putting a dress on their body, and this store had an array of sizes. My attendant knew exactly what I was looking for, and helped me pull a few really great contenders for dresses. She was also an EXPERT at clipping. She made me feel like I was trying on dresses that were made for me, with nothing but some car clamps. haha. Also, Curvaceous Couture was one of the only stores to actually send me an email with the dresses I was considering after my appointment. Other stores said they would but never did. I didn't find exactly what i was looking for here, but if I wind up having to get my backup dress, I will absolutely get it from here vs. the other stores that have it, because everything about this store was so lovely. read more

They understand that women of all sizes get married, and no one needs our day to involve the phrase "we don't have that in your size". I had the most amazing dress shopping experience here. I was greeted by name as soon as I walked in the door. Sheree (sp?) was fantastic with listening to what I wanted and helping me pick out great options. The dress I went with was actually one she picked for me! I loved the personalized experience from picking dresses, having them arranged just so making it super easy to get in and out of each dress (complete opposite of my experience at another retailer), and feedback on how to maximize tailoring. I had the pleasure of stopping in at the Curvaceous Couture Bridal over the course of two days. On my first in person visit, I was first greeted by Yukia, the owner of Curvaceous Couture, who was so understanding, helpful and gracious. I explained what I was looking for and she was so helpful! I also asked about the option working with their in-house seamstress. She was also helpful in explaining those services as well. She invited me back the following day to try on some dresses I was interested in. I came back the next day to try on dresses and I worked with Mycahya, a bridal stylist. And let me tell you Mycahya was such a gem! She was so patient, supportive gave me some wonderful bridal wisdom and really helped me confirm which dress was "my dress". She was such a joy to work with! Also, I appreciate Curvaceous Couture's range in sizes since they cater to the curvier brides. I typically fall within the "mid-sizes" (14-18; occasionally size 20, depending on the material and cut) and it was nice to be able to sort through and try on plenty of dresses that I could fit with some clipping. I even tried on a fitted mermaid dress that I thought was beautiful! I avoided the mermaid fit dresses prior to this bridal shop visit because many didn't fit me and made me feel uncomfortable but I felt so comfortable here to try one. Loved my experience here for buying and getting my wedding dress tailed for my 9/28/2019 wedding! They are the best. The process was smooth and wasn't pressured. They had so many options and fell in love with my dress. Everything g was smooth from appointments, to fitting, to tailoring. I felt at home and loved that it was a black and woman owned business. I would recommend them to anyone! They know their stuff. And best of all, the dress fit like a glove! The final fitting the owner could see I was a little hesitant to say all was good and she suggested a waist sincher where it held the tummy in with shorts and not wearing panties. Wanted so much to love this boutique but I was disappointed. After a 15 minute consultation asking What I liked, my theme, my size, etc etc I was escorted out of the dressing room to choose my own dresses. There were a few interruptions from a couple of other consultants, including requesting the dress I had on. No "excuse me" or apology. After trying 4 (out of 5) dresses, it became more of a "trying to get the sell" situation rather than making me feel special as a bride-to-be and using "expertise", knowledge of inventory and making suggestions for the right dress for me. My wedding planner called ahead to ask if champagne could be brought in. She was told "absolutely not". We had a private fitting room so I'm not sure why it was completely out of the question. Although understandable due to Covid. The major issue I have with that is it wasn't even mentioned once we got there followed by an apology. I would think an upscale couture establishment would have more of a friendly, professional disposition. They did not. Speaking of COVID, I was made to believe (through conversation, website and appointment confirmation email) that I would be the only bride in the salon during my appointment time. There were two other brides and guests there. So the restricted guest amount was so the salon could book to the max and benefit themselves. At one point we were in the same room and walking through another brides fitting (this could have been avoided if my consultant Sharee pulled the dresses instead of making me do the work). I will say that our temperature was taken and we were escorted to the bathroom to wash our hands when we arrived. Once I started trying on the dresses, my consultant had to be prompted to add a veil so that I could get a better feel for each dress and also prompted to allow me to walk out and stand on the pedestal out in the showroom. The biggest TURN OFF was being told that the gown I liked the most was $1,299 and after I fell in love with it my consultant comes back in the room asking which rack we got the dress from () and then says "oh I'm sorry..I thought it was this dress" (enter an obviously different pink dress). I ask how much was the dress that I loved. She says $2,795. A lot of the dresses did not have price tags on them unless they were on sale. I didn't like that. Seems like the price was based on whether you loved it or not and again, based on pushing to get the sell. I felt like my consultant was being pressured by other staff which is unfortunate. Where were the owners? This was my very first time wedding gown shopping and I booked this appointment almost two months out. It would have been nice to have been greeted and treated as this were a special day for me, leading up to the ultimate special day. Unfortunately, that was not the case. read more

But, what a wonderful salon with wonderful managers and associates. A sincere thank you for making me feel so beautiful on my wedding day. There was no pressure when purchasing - and they kept me within budget. I purchased my dress and bolero from here and couldn't have been happy. Only mistake I made was altering it elsewhere since I live in NY. After having made the mistake I wish I had just made the commute one more time to Baltimore. The review below about how the Curvaceous experience is all about making a sale rather than helping a bride is 1000000% spot on. Not only did I have a terrible experience, but after reaching out to try and make things right, I was met with the same crap response I got in store. I went in to my initial appt excited, and ended up finding a dress I loved, as long as the V neck could be deepened. The consultant running the appt agreed, and even went and got the seamstress who both said "no problem" (lol what a joke) I have receipts - texts to friends and family saying the same, that I loved the dress as long as the vneck could be deepened. I purchased the dress for $1,000 (non refundable - don't make my mistake). Coming back to pick it up, I met with a seamstress right away. This was a different seamstress as before, and my consultant was also different as before. I mentioned that I had initially wanted a different style dress but that I went with this one as long as the V could be deepened. I asked about an additional alteration, but it was in no way a priority. Guess how much it was going to cost to do the alterations? $900-$1000. The seamstress and consultant both made me feel like an idiot for even buying the dress in the first place, when the first consultant was all "NO PROBLEM!" They both said "well with that, you could just buy a new dress.. why would you buy this dress if it would cost you equal amount to make it what you want..." and I wanted to scream BECAUSE YOU TOLD ME TO! I cried the entire hour back to my house. As a heads up - their alterations to do JUST the basics (hem, waist, fine tuning) were going to cost $700....... Taking the dress to MY seamstress (who has been in business for decades and is very highly rated and would have only charges me $300 for the basics [Lien's Dressmaking - check her out!), she said because the way the dress is made, deepening the V neck would NOT be possible and in fact, would have to be raised once the straps were taken in. I was completely hoodwinked so Curvaceous could make their $1k. The worst part about all of this that has my stomach in knots anytime I think about it is that I wrote in to the salon to express my displeasure and try to make things right, and got the most bullshit answer. I now have an unworn, tags-attached dress in my closet that I'm ready to throw in the trash because of the anger I feel every time I think about it. I wrote in and very politely explained the situation, and how upsetting it is to purchase a dress under false pretenses made by THEIR staff. Zero apology was provided, zero accountability. I made the huge mistake of mentioning I initially wanted a different gown in the salon because again, I was just made out to be a dumb bride with dress remorse (which is NOT the case!!!!!!!!!!!). I would have GLADLY kept my dress if the agreed upon alterations actually were "no problem" and weren't going to cost me the same amount I paid for the dress in the first place!!! If that were the case and I really had dress remorse, I would have reached out during the months it was getting made, NOT after I was quoted a grand in simple alteration costs... She had the audacity to offer to help me find somewhere to sell the dress... honestly! Adding insult to injury 100%. Not only does it cost money to list your dress, but I wouldn't get the same amount whatsoever so she's basically calling me crazy and then trying to make herself feel better that she was so kind to recommend me a place to sell it... Like her conscious is clear because she googled stillwhite.com... If they ever respond to this, I'm sure I'll be met with the same condescending non-believing mentality where its made to look like its my fault, but I'm telling you now - not the case. If you do still choose to go with Curvaceous - I beg of you please get alteration options in writing, and get QUOTES in writing BEFORE you purchase the dress!!!! Don't take anyone's word at face value, and look out for any surprises. Otherwise you'll be like me - stuck with expensive triggering garbage in your closet. read more

I love this store. I'm around a size 12, and was frustrated with going to other bridal stores and barely being able to squeeze into their tiny sample sizes. Here, I was able to try on multiple gorgeous dresses, which the staff were able to pin beautifully so I could see how they would actually look. They were extremely helpful, low-pressure, and kept me in budget. I ultimately bought my dress elsewhere, but I cannot recommend this store highly enough - they make dress shopping enjoyable for all women - as it should be! read more

This is an awesome bridal salon! It carries all plus sized wedding gowns in various price ranges. After being humiliated by other bridal shops because I was "too big" to try anything on, I went there to shop for my wedding dress. (I wear an 18W). They have a Reem Acra salon within their salon that houses all Reem Acra plus sized gowns! I tried on other gowns too. They had a huge selection, and many different styles. I tried on gowns by Jasmine, Enzonai, and Pronovias. One gown I tried on was by Ian Stewart that had lavendar roses and silver lace that was gorgeous! I ended up with a Reem Acra gown that was beaded and absolutely stunning. The salon is huge and gorgeous and the dressing rooms were large and very elegant. The service was excellent and the ladies there were very friendly. They had bridesmaids and mother's dresses too! I highly recommend this place. read more

I've essentially been wedding dress shopping since October 2019 for my January 2021 wedding. I couldn't find anything that felt like me. Everything I tried on was over the top foo foo, and thanks to the pandemic, I'd gained weight, making it harder. I bought a dress but returned it, and had essentially given up. I came across Curvaceous Couture in a google search and decided to give it one more chance (August 2020). Jazzy (I hope I'm spelling your name right!) was my consultant and she was the *absolute* sweetest. I showed her some pictures and gave her the break down of the disaster that was wedding dress shopping. She pulled a few dresses and I was *immediately* drawn to the first dress. I tried on 6 overall, but that first dress ended up being it. She helped me FaceTime my mom (in FL) and my best friend (in PA) to show them. It was everything I wanted and didn't know I did, AND it was perfectly in my budget. The employees made me feel like a bride when no one else had, and I truly can't thank them enough for turning this experience around for me. I can't wait to go back to them for alterations! I can't say enough great things about Curvaceous Couture! After looking at another store (which claimed to have plus sized options) and finding almost nothing in my size, walking into Curvaceous Couture was a breath of fresh air. I must have tried on over 15 dresses, and I could never have done that anywhere else. It was so nice to feel like there's a store that celebrates plus size brides! If that wasn't amazing enough, everyone there is so sweet and wonderful. I don't know how but they always remembered me when I called. I live in NY so I had to be creative with scheduling fittings in Maryland, and they were beyond helpful with my scheduling needs. I also found my dress during my first appointment, but I just wasn't ready to pull the trigger. The sales person was amazing and helpful, and she took down my details just in case I decided I wanted the dress. A week later I knew it was the one, called and it was easy to order it. There was no pressure to buy, and I really appreciated that. Also as a black business owner myself, I'm always excited to support another black business. At a size 16, I was prepared for a tough time hunting for a dress and I knew i would need to look in plus size specialty stores for a bridal dress. Every other place I visited prior to CC, I was having some luck with dresses that were beautiful, and with consultants that were knowledgeable, but I couldn't find a dress in my budget or that I was willing to "pull the trigger for". CC I found online and was going to be my last stop before picking one of the dresses elsewhere. This store deserves ten stars. It is clean, beautifully decorated, and not too cluttered. Just enough samples out to show a good selection and not seem overwhelming. They also organize their rooms by price range which I really appreciated. The moment I walked in, all three ladies currently sitting behind the desk greeted me with a genuine smile. I didn't realize how something so small as all of them making eye contact with me as I entered, mattered until they all did it. I was paired with my consultant Jazzy. Her consultation was thorough and she had ways of making me feel comfortable I hadn't yet experienced in this process. She was professional and warm. Other employees kept complimenting me in gowns I had on as they walked by. They were all very nice! I walked away with my in-budget dress ordered, with tears in my eyes (I never thought I would be one that would cry when I found it)! I can't wait for it to arrive and to get to wear it! If you go to this shop you are walking into a reality show - literally, no joke. My visit was totally not about me and I didn't buy my dress there due to my negative experience. But, the collection is good and it was so helpful to try on multiple styles of dresses in my size (regular dress size 18). The positive: The dresses were beautiful. The manager, Shannon was helpful and knowledgeable. It was awesome to try on so many things in my size. Truly. The negative: Unfortunately, the experience was SUPER WEIRD. They are filming a reality TV show about the shop which they did NOT mention when I booked an appointment. REALITY TV?! When I walked up to the shop there was a poster on the door that said that by entering I was agreeing to be filmed. I had no idea, but I had taken off work (weekend appointments were not available) and rented a car (I live car-free in DC) to go to this place, so I was on a mission. I work full time and go to school part time, so my time to spend shopping is precious and limited. I just felt steam rolled by the end. The owners were present, but didn't greet me until I had been in the shop for almost an hour because they were busy running after the camera team. The camera team was soooo aggressive with me and I was not assertive enough. They kept wanting to film me and taking up a ton of my time. Not to mention my bra was totally showing all over the place while they're filming, which was embarrassing. I finally asked the owner and camera crew what I was going to get out my participation- if they would give me a discount on my dress and they laughed. My friend was much more assertive than I and I am forever grateful to her. She saved the day with sass. Manager, crew and owners all apologized, but frankly it was just so weird and disrespectful. I was so upset when I got home. I had to be nice to all in case I was forced to purchase there because there are so few places where I can actually find a dress that fits. This is a hard update to write. I went from loving this salon and everything it stood for, to being disappointed beyond belief. I had such a positive experience at Curvaceous Couture on my first trip there (when I found my wedding gown). However, after they had my money, I felt like they no longer cared about anything I wanted/had to say/asked for. I was so saddened by the drastic drop off in customer service that once my dress came in, I had it shipped to my house and found someone else to do the alterations. The salon has a great concept (ie - every woman should be able to try on bridal gowns), but the execution is lacking. I cannot say enough good things about this place, specifically Shannon. When I walked in the store, I was taken aback by how beautiful and well organized it was. Then, Shannon found me a gorgeous Allure dress and made it work with my small budget. She even found the perfect accessories to pull it all together. I have struggled all my life with eating disorders and body image issues. Shannon was patient andsensitive to that and worked hard to hide the size and help me feel confident. Because of her, I actively enjoyed an event that has been making me nervous forever. I cried happy tears when she put a veil on me. This was everything I wanted and MORE!! In September I was sitting and watching Say Yes To The Dress and after it was over a new show called Curvy Brides came on. The dresses they were showing were beautiful and the sisters who owned it seemed fun and down to earth. Having been engaged for almost a year at that point and knowing that I would be trying on dresses in early 2015 I was all about these shows. When I heard them say that this dress shop sells only plus size gowns and happened to be only 40 minutes from me I knew I had to go. I called the next day to get an appointment for January 3rd. When that Saturday morning rolled around I went in with my family and was blown away by the shop. It is so beautiful and instantly I saw several gowns that I wanted to get a closer look at. My consultant was Sophia and she was extraordinary. She started by sitting down with me and talking about what I comfortable with price wise and what features I liked in a dress. I showed her my pictures that were of things I liked and she seemed to get a clear understanding quickly of the things I wanted. She went off and pulled 4 dresses and then called me in. Sophia was so sweet and helpful and genuinely seemed interested in my wedding and plans with my fiance. She never made me feel plus sized or different in any way. In fact she told me not to worry about size because it is all about fit and for the first time in my life I tried on dresses without ever knowing the size. She had everything organized well. One dress would be ready to step into while we were taking the other off so there was never any time where I was standing around waiting. Each dress my family and I loved more than the last. She pulled dresses that had all of the things I was looking for and I noticed even picked up on things I said to my family that I liked or didn't like and pulled dresses accordingly. I tired on 8 dresses and loved each of them but ultimately found one that stood out more than the others and gave me that bridal glow, the dress of my dreams. When I said "yes" to the dress everyone including the people who were having an appointment next to mine clapped and cheered. I felt like me and the other woman trying on gowns were the only people in the world and we had fun seeing the different dresses the other would put on. I am so happy to have found my gown and to have had the perfect experience that I have always dreamed of. Another huge selling point and kudos for Sophia is that she completely and totally respected by budget. She showed me 8 gowns all which were under my budget. I called this place looking for a dress only 8 weeks out from my wedding. They absolutely saved the day! They were able to help me find something off the rack since I had such a short time before the wedding. The dress I loved was a size too small, but they assured me it wasn't a problem and the seamstress just added a corset to the back for some extra room. They worked with me to find a beautiful belt and customize my dress to exactly what I wanted. The seamstress was able to move around her schedule to make sure she had time to finish my dress and get me in for 3 fittings. Overall I couldn't be happier with the experience. Great customer service, friendly people, and beautiful dresses. Huge selection of beautiful plus sized dresses that would make any bride feel beautiful. I had an appointment with Curvaceous Couture on Friday, 3/6. I was the only one in the store and Shannon was my consultant. Let's start with Shannon- she was FABULOUS. I felt super comfortable with her from the beginning and she was very positive about every dress I tried on, and also helpful when she could tell it wasn't something I absolutely loved. I tried on a bajillion dresses and found that I looked best in the fit and flare/mermaid style dresses. If I was at a normal bridal salon, with normal sample sizes, I can tell you I would have NEVER chosen that style for myself...because I wouldn't have been able to fit in it! I narrowed it down to two dresses on Friday and couldn't stop thinking about either of them so I made another appointment on Saturday to try to make a decision. They were able to squeeze me in and I actually tried on a different gown, and that was the one I loved. I cannot say enough about how positive my experience was with CC. Wow, where do I start. I found out about this shop in Brides magazine and I have to say I was skeptical. I had already spent 3 months looking for wedding dresses and had been disappointed by the 3 or 4 plus size samples most bridal salons had. When I arrived at Curvaceous Couture there were no other customers there and I had the last appointment. I found the two women there to be courteous and patient as I agonized over the gorgeous gowns they had selected. Their shop was spacious, clean and very professional. I gave them my budget and they didn't try to push me into a higher price point, but stayed within my limit and found a variety of options for me, since I was still unsure of what I was looking for. My maid of honor was able to view a selected of bridesmaid gowns on a monitor in the same dressing room I was in, it was outstanding. I became very indecisive in the end attempting to choose between two wonderful gowns and even though it was past closing, the ladies were patient and waited for me to agonize about it in front of the mirror as I tried both dresses on again and again. In the end, I found my dream dress and am anxiously awaiting its arrival. I have been recommending Curvaceous Couture to every plus size bride or wedding vendor I know. They are still fairly new, so I hope they stay in business for a while. read more

I found THE dress at Curvaceous Couture. I had a 10am appointment on a Saturday and we got started right on time. Mychaya was my consultant, and she was amazing. She talked with me about what I was looking for and I showed her some photos. Then she had me and my bridesmaids pick out a few dresses to try on that were in my budget. They have the dresses organized in rooms based on budget, which was REALLY helpful. The first dress I tried on I fell in love with. I thought I had found the one the day before at another salon, but this one just blew me away. And it was nothing like I thought it would look like. We tried on several more dresses, but I kept going back to that first one. Mychaya was very patient and cheerful and asked me about my fiance and our wedding planning. One of the best parts is that they have dresses in your size in the store, so you can try things on and they will actually zip up, and there were women in there of all sizes trying on dresses. You could tell that Mychaya enjoyed her job and was excited when I finally decided - at least 10 dresses later - that the first dress was THE dress. She "jacked me up" and I had my embarrassing bridal moment. The other consultants were also so sweet congratulating me and telling me how beautiful I looked. Exactly what you want to hear when trying on wedding dresses. Mychaya took my measurements, we picked a size and I handed over my credit card. The dress should be here within five months. I'm so excited! Wonderful experience, big bright show room, lots of dresses to choose from in my budget (under $2000). It was exactly what "Say Yes to the Dress" told you was supposed to be your experience. I'll have to check out their TLC show now! I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a dress. I came to curvaceous Couture in March for my wedding in August. I truly did have a great experience with the associate that helped me. They had a wide selection and I was able to choose a dress I really loved. Upon trying on the dress, I expressed to the associate that the amount of cleavage showing was not something I was not comfortable with. The associate along with I believe the store manager or lead associate shared that if they ordered the dress in bigger size there would be more material to cover up more. What they failed to realize once the dress came in was that the cleavage area only got more far apart with the bigger size of the dress. What also changed with the increased size of the dress was the chest design. It had beautiful flowers with such detail that captivated me. The dress at the bigger size had completely different flowers and leaves. The store claimed they had no idea that was something the dress designer did. They assured me that it could be fixed at no cost to me and the changes to provide more coverage could be done by their best seamstress. When I came to pick my dress up it was far too long, the straps were too tight and my cleavage area was more exposed than ever. We tried to discuss with them what could be done since this was not what we wanted. The seamstress kept asserting to the store manager that this was what I wanted. There was little material in the store that matched the dress to provide me with the coverage I wanted. The best they could do was add a little bit of lace to cover me up a little bit but even that they did not want to do. We had to spend so much time convincing them until they agreed and we ended up paying for those mistakes ourselves. Once I went to pick up the dress after those corrections were made the seamstress was gone and all I could do was look at the dress but not try it on again. The day of my wedding I put the dress on and my mood was immediately impacted. The seamstress moved the straps to a different place which changed the entire look of the dress and it was showing off my whole entire chest. I had a difficult time dancing at my wedding due to fears of my dress exposing my chest too much. The dress would shift down even more everytime I started to dance. I have a hard time looking at some pictures due to how exposed I am. I went back and forth regarding whether to write this but ultimately if another bride can be saved from having this regret then it is worth it. Do not use their seamstresses. The work they claim they can do is limited despite what the staff may say. Also get a second opinion from another store who carries your dress to make sure whatever they claim at this store is even accurate. read more

I will not be able to put into words how amazing my experience was at Curvaceous Couture!!! I've read through most other reviews here and I am SHOCKED at the negative notes, because I have nothing but great things to say! You come to CC because you've tried other boutiques/retail chains and the only sample dresses they have in your size are so discouraging! I browsed David's and another boutique and I looked for dresses in my size and I didn't want to put them on! I drove an hour and a half to CC, when I walked in, I felt like crying!!! Everything was "my size" and everything was BEAUTIFUL! Yulesia is one of the owners and she worked with me on my first visit! ( though I ended up working with most of the women throughout my 3 visits) She is AMAZING! I told her my price point and she never asked me to step outside of that! She actually steered me away from dresses that were outside of what I wanted to spend, which is unheard of in the retail industry! I had no idea what I was looking for, so she pulled dresses that she thought would look flattering on me and she really nailed it!! I felt like a princess in everything I put on and ALL of the women in the shop told me how beautiful I looked, which gave me all the confidence in the world! I was shopping alone, so it meant everything to have that attention on me and such positive input! I was never pressured to buy and I didn't on my first visit! I came back twice, with family and friends to help me make my final decision, and I bought the most amazing Allure gown! These women can't possibly understand how thankful I am for them! I had the best experience all the times I went! Though this will be my only wedding, so I won't need them for a wedding gown again, I will send them business! I will sing their praises! I had a wonderful experience at Curvaceous Couture! As soon as I walked in the door I was impressed with and set at ease by the store's cleanliness and COVID precautions. The store is beautiful and you can tell they put a lot of thought into carefully selecting and curating the dresses they carry - they all felt current and stylish, and it was clear they have a keen eye for the construction and details that make curvy girls (or anyone!) feel beautiful. My consultant Mykayah was AMAZING - she listened to my likes and dislikes, was really fun to work with, and expertly suggested things to try that I would have never chosen myself but ended up loving. All of the sample dresses were several sizes too big for me, and she did the most perfect job of clipping them so I could get a good idea of how they would fit in my size. We had a 4pm appointment, not realizing that the shop was scheduled to close at 5pm because of COVID - Mykayah didn't even mention it, and it was almost 6pm when we realized. She still insisted we try on the last dress we selected, and made sure to patiently answer all of our questions at the end of the appointment. She could not have been nicer or more helpful! Regardless of your size, I would recommend Curvaceous Couture to anyone who is shopping for a wedding dress. The level of customer service and selection of gowns are wonderful. I only tried on 4 dresses before I found the one that I knew was my dress. All of the ladies that work there that helped me were super-nice! The customer service is top-notch and you never once felt pressured about completing your purchase this minute. I'm sorry, but spending over a thousand dollars on 1 dress is a HUGE decision. Salons that try to pressure you to make the sale are terrible. You will not experience that here! I first tried on gowns in May 2010 after I got engaged and bought in October when my mother could come for a visit to see me in the dress. I actually bought during a trunk show and got all kinds of special deals with it. I ended up buying a gown by from Blue by Enzoani. Jas who does alterations for them is a miracle-worker! She helped me add sleeves to my gown that looked like it came from the designer. The alterations were a little higher then what I would have liked to pay but she did perform significant alterations to the gown. Overall Curvaceous Couture provided me the BEST experience I could have imagined when shopping for my dress. I just wish I could where it more, 1 day was not enough :-) read more

So... long story alert. My sister is getting married in November. She saw a story about this boutique on TV and the story of why the store was opened touched her personally because she's plus size. We made an appointment like 3 months in advance. My sister was super excited! While we waited for our appointment date, we went to another local dress boutique and had an amazing experience, but my sister wouldn't buy a dress because she wanted to come to curvaceous couture. She knew she wouldn't have to worry about feeling like she wasn't going to be able to fit anything or worry about having a limited selection of plus size gowns. We drove from Fayetteville, NC to Columbia, MD while it was snowing. We got a hotel room, made a whole thing of it. Me, my sister, my mom, and one of her bridesmaids. We get to the store, early (remember, she's super excited). There were 2 people working there; the manager and an employee. The employee was the stylist and she didn't introduce herself. She said, twice, "Just sit right here and I'm going to talk to the bride so just sit right here." I felt weird so I asked the manager if we were allowed to walk around the store. My sister comes out in the first dress and she's gorgeous! She looks around and points to some other dresses she wants to try on. For quite a few of them, the lady says, in front of us, "You're not going to be able to fit that." My sister said to the lady, "Can we just try it? We went to another dress shop and this skinny lady was able to fit me into 16s and 18s." The lady says, "Well that's a 20, you're not going to be able to fit it so is there anything else you want to try on?" My sister points to another dress, "I'd like to try that one." The lady says, "But that one is $3,500 so I don't think it's a good idea." My sister tells us that she told the lady her budget was $2,000, BUT if she found something she liked, she'd spend whatever she needed. The lady says, "I don't want you falling in love with it because its $3,500." I pick some dresses for my sister, the lady says, "What do YOU want to try on?" I'm like, really lady? My sister tries on another dress (this is maybe the 3rd or 4th dress), and she's tried on different styles. The lady says, "You just don't know what style you want." My sister says, "I told you I was a blank canvas, but I'm willing to try styles until I find the one I like." The lady goes to the front to talk to her manager, clearly having an attitude. Next dress, my sister LOVES!! We ask to try veils so she gets some. There is another one I want my sister to try so I lean into the room to ask her to get it down. She couldn't hear because of the music so the manager offers to get it down and does. I come back into the room with the veil. The lady says, "If you need something down, tell me next time because its a liability," with full attitude. I told her that the manager got it, not me. She didn't say she was sorry or anything. She just ignored me. So my sister has narrowed it down to 2 dresses and she's wanting to try a dress on one more time. The lady tries to convince my sister not to come back out into the open area where we are. My sister comes out anyway. I ask the lady if we can try one more veil. She says, "No, your appointment is about up and I need to squeeze your sister out of this dress." Pissed, I walked out of the store because I'm about to go off! It's snowing, no one is here, and you don't have time to get a veil?!? Yeah, I'm done. We drove 6 hours to come to this store that specializes in plus size bridal experiences where a bride looks for that emotional connection to find HER dress. This woman robbed my sister of that. I go back in and my sister is wrapping her appointment up. The damn lady says, "Do you plan to lose any (emphasis on any) weight before your wedding?" Wait, WHAT?!? THERE WASN'T A MORE TACTFUL WAY TO SAY THAT? I hope the owners were made aware, she was fired, and they plan to contact us. She took all the fun, excitement, and meaning out of this for my sister. I never thought I was going to get married, so I had zero vision about what kind of gown I would ever want. My consultant, Jazzy, was so patient as I tried on several silhouettes just to get an idea of what I would even like and what looked good on my body shape. She gave me and my party time to pick about seven gowns to try on in the first round and then came back in the second round with a few of her own picks, gorgeous gowns I probably wouldn't have chosen for myself but pushed my style envelope. I was a little overwhelmed after the fifth or sixth one--that was me, not them--and I left without buying a gown. But Jazzy jotted down the style numbers for my favorites in case I decide to come back and retry the best ones. GREAT ! I'm a size 12/14 and wanted to find the right dress. I saw them at the Washington bridal show and knew i wanted to go here ! Great presentation , family owned and an African American owned business! great modern decor. I told them what i was looking for and she brought dresses (within my budget ) that fit great and were my style. it was a great feeling to fit into the dress and really imagine how you would look on your wedding day ! the staff was experienced , and gave great advice . They made you feel welcome . in My 1 1/2 hour appointme. the kept their apportionment times and I did not feel any pressure to buy. needless to say I'm going back next week to try one a few dresses again yo make my decision. I found THE dress at Curvaceous Couture, and I am so happy with it. With less than two months to go until my wedding, I had purchased a dress that didn't work out and I couldn't return it. CC was the last place I went to look for a replacement dress. I was welcomed on a busy Saturday morning, and the staff took time to listen to my ideas and my price range, reassuring me that there were plenty of possibilities. I had a chance to pick some sample dresses off the rack, and my consultant Mychaya went back to the warehouse to grab a few more potentials. Mychaya and the rest of the staff were positive and attentive, and I tried on several dresses. I couldn't have imagined the dress that I ended up choosing, but Mychaya could, and I'm so grateful that she took the chance to bring it out from the back. After a little consulting, we determined that it didn't need too much alteration and what it did need was possible. The longer I spent in the dress, the more sure I was that it had been waiting there for me. I could not have dreamed that I'd find a dress like this. I almost cried as they were getting it ready. They were also willing to work with me to squeeze in an appointment with their in-house tailor. I opted to find someone a little closer to me in DC. FWIW, they're not filming right now if that's not what you want to walk into (or if it is, maybe wait until next season if you can...). It sounds like they've made adjustments since some of the previous reviews, but just ask when you call for your appointment and make sure you communicate what you're comfortable with so that there are no surprises. I believe that the staff and owners really do want you to have a great experience there. I will absolutely attach a picture from the wedding to this review in a couple of months. It means so much to me to have a bridal experience that I didn't think possible. I love watching Curvy Brides now and feeling connected to Curvaceous Couture and they work they're doing. When I first walked in, I was worried that the shop was too small - everyone shopping for a wedding dress has seen that show on TLC, and as a result I expected to walk into a big box store style warehouse of dresses (there actually is a warehouse tucked in back, but you don't see it when you're in the salon). However, Curvaceous Couture is definitely taking a "quality not quantity" approach. They have a range of styles, from traditional to the more unique and flowing dresses I love. The consultants really thought carefully about all of the information I gave them - budget, the look of the wedding, the time of year I'm getting married, and so on. They pulled a variety of dresses for me, and told me to pick out anything I wanted to try on as well. They encouraged me to try on as many dresses as I wanted to, so I could get a feel for what looked good and what was comfortable. The whole time they were sweet, fun to talk to, and gave great feedback when I asked for it. They even brought the seamstress in so that I could see the impact that alterations would have on the designs. I actually had fun, and I normally dread shopping. I bought my dress, and I absolutely love it. The owner, Yukia, even sold me the sample so that I could come in under budget - I ended up with a beautiful high end dress at a price point that I'd expect from a discount retailer. I cannot recommend the store enough. If you're nervous about or frustrated with dress shopping, this will absolutely change the experience for you. read more

I went on my quest for the dress in February and my first stop was at Curvaceous Couture. I'm so glad that Maryland has bridal boutiques that cater to the curvy and actually have stock for us to try on. The service is great and they cater to you one on one. They are on the pricier side, but I never felt pressured to purchase. read more
