Get in the zone! Curry zone. This place is located in a strip mall (near an actual Auto zone, LOL). The place has an interesting vibe. They started by giving us a dessert plate. The desserts were just plain chocolate candies such as Ferrero Rocher and hard candy (the gesture was nice). They brought out our mango lassi. The mango lassi was a bit bitter. I think they used a lot of Greek yogurt to make it and not much sugar. We told the waiter it wasn't made well and he brought out a new one but it was still not the typical sweetness that was expected. The waiter didn't seem to understand English that well unfortunately. We ordered a chicken hot and sour soup and chicken curry. Both came out pretty fast. The chicken curry was ok. It was nothing to shout home about. My chicken hot and sour soup was pretty good. Seems this waiter is brand new and barely knew the menu. He also had difficulty speaking English. Had a difficult time reviewing the menu. There medium heat was indian level, meaning it may be too much for most Americans. Ordered a Chicken curry, hot & sour soup, and mango lassi. Chicken curry was average but went well with rice. Hot & sour soup was simple and average. Mango lassi was a disappointment. Tasted sour. Not sure how they messed up. Got a replacement but not much of an improvement. As soon as you walk in they have hand sanitizing station in vestibule between restaurant & Indian grocery store. Was greeted by a lovely lady Leeta, who was warm & very friendly. They have both contactless & hand held menus. It's a BYOB, although I stopped on a whim for lunch, so no need for that. As you sit you are given an individual sanitizer wipe and bottle of water that was placed by each setting. They have a vast menu ranging from Vegetarian and meat options. Lots of appetizers to chose from along with a "quick bite" section. Today I chose Chicken Tikka Masala with plain Naan Bread, I asked for it spicy which it was and absolutely delicious, fork tender chicken & sauce was so fragrant and good. This place is immaculate and beautiful inside. The food was fresh and made as mild or spicy as we wanted. The waiter Brash helped us decide on the best dishes with meat or vegetables and he even helped us with our pronounciation of the dishes :) The appetizers came our right away but the main courses took a little while. Let me make one thing clear, I have been a member of the Yelp community for several years and have never left a one-star review before for a restaurant. I can forgive bad food, bad or slow service, and many other things. But this restaurant provided the single worst experience my family has ever had eating out. The reason for this is twofold: 1. We were made to wait over an hour and a half for our main course to arrive while other customers who arrived after us were served. During this period we received little to no service and no one told us that our food would be delayed; 2. We were charged over 30% more than the prices presented in the menu provided to us. We have documentation for both claims (see attached photos) and describe them in detail below: 2:52 PM: We arrived at Curry Zone. We were initially greeted with a smile and the server sat us at our table. From what we could see, there were two other tables with seated customers. 2:57 PM: Our server took our order for the following items on the menu (menu prices in parentheses). At no time are we told by the waitress that the menu prices are inaccurate. - Mango lassi x 2 ($3.95) - Chicken Tikka Masala ($12.95) - Chicken Tandoori ($12.95) - Garlic Naan x 2 ($2.50) - Balti Gosht ($14.95) 3:28 PM: Chicken Tandoori arrives. This is the last time the waitress visits our table. Before this time, another set of customers arrived in the table behind us. They received regular service throughout the following period. 4:10 PM: We had long since finished the Chicken Tandoori and were growing impatient. The waitress had not visited our table since 3:28 and our child was getting antsy. The customers behind us were already served and eating their dinner. 4:25 PM: We decide to leave, because it is already getting late and we have to return home. 4:28 PM: A waiter arrives with our food, and we tell him that we wish to take out our dinner. 4:30 PM: We pay and leave. Shortly after, my wife notices that we paid the following prices for our dishes (See photos 1 and 3): - Mango lassi $11.90 (2 drinks) - Chicken Tikka Masala $15.95 - Chickent Tandori $18.95 - Garlic Naan $7 (2 items) - Balti Gosht $16.95 So, while we expected to pay 53.75 for our meal, we actually paid 70.75 (before taxes and tip). That's nearly 32% more than we expected! 4:40 PM: We returned to the restaurant to ask why we were over-charged for our meal. At long last, we were shown the small notice on the blank front page of the menu (photo 2). The notice says that prices on the menu may be higher due to higher labor costs and food costs during the pandemic. While we are sympathetic to restaurants in this time, we were deeply disturbed by the fact that not only was this notice not pointed out to us by the waitstaff, we were also charged a far greater price than what was presented on the menu and well beyond what we would consider to be reasonable. The inaccurate menu presented to us at the restaurant is as of now still the menu presented on Yelp with no indication that prices are not what they appear. We believe that customers deserve to know ahead of time what they will pay for their food. If menu prices are inaccurate, then customers should be informed by a member of the waitstaff when they order their food, not after they've paid their bill. To do otherwise is a betrayal of the trust of consumers like us. We demand that the owner of this restaurant update the prices of the in-person online menu according to the actual prices visitors can expect to pay so that no one else will suffer this same experience. read more

A big disappointment. There are few restaurants that serve this type of cuisine in this region, and at first it was exciting when this place first opened. I have eaten there three times now, and in comparison with other Indian restaurants in New Jersey and NYC, Curry Zone has little to praise. Their Tandoori Chicken gave me indigestion and kept me up half the night. The ghulab jamun was served piping hot. The service was nervous, constantly asking if we'd like more water. The flavors of the food in general are meh. They serve you Hershey's kisses and other crappy candy as a complimentary bonus appetizer. Worst of all are the inflated prices for this mediocre experience. There are Indian restaurants in NYC that serve exquisite Indian food for half the price. And they have the chutzpah to charge a credit card fee on top of it. On the positive, the ambiance is fine. I really wanted to support this establishment but I will not be returning. read more

But they demonstrate tremendous insensitivity to people who have food allergies. We were able to try another bread besides Naan. The food was delicious..just the right spices and combinations. I asked for spicy, it wasn't really but I know most restaurants are careful with level. All relative. The only reasons I gave 4 stars - our waiter did not speak English very well so our questions didn't get answered. And, usually I bring part of my meal home. Well we have given them a few chances and every time it's the same issues and now an incompetent waiter who seemed frightened to speak. The kitchen is SLOW. You can order and wait an hour or more for food. Our last visit was slow, the frightened waiter got my order wrong ( how hard is it to write down chicken vindaloo) and when I finally got the owner's ( who is very nice) attention she did offer to remake when we were preparing to leave but she didn't charge us for the wrong dish. My wife's lamb also tasted and had texture like mutton l. We watched another group of older Indian women sit for over an hour waiting for anything to come out and could see their frustration and hunger. There was also a strange group of creepy men wandering in and out glaring at my wife. I came very close to saying something to them or worse it was so bad. Take out is also problematic. You come when told and have to sit at the "bar" and wait a longggg time to get your food. It seems the cook cannot multitask. Portions were small and tasted like anything I can make at home myself. UPDATE - well, my love for this place was short-lived. We just ordered for a second time and the wait for online/takeout was an hour....little long but we can deal. What we can't deal with is getting there when the order is supposed to be ready and being told they have no idea when it will be ready. I asked "are you thinking another hour? two?" and they said they had no idea how long it would take. Then when we asked for our money back, the guy said "but it's half done?". Huh? Then the person who was in front of us said they had been waiting 90 minutes for their takeout. We got our money back and went for Chinese food. This place will never make it with that poor level of service. They shouldn't take orders they can't fill and they should at least call you if there are significant delays. We'll be going back to Marsala Art on Rt. 202 or Guru's in Newtown. Guru's is truly amazing and the service is fantastic. Great food here. Had some goat I think (it was a bit of a while back) some veggies and rice. The decore is really good and liked the music as well. The waiter and owners were very nice both times as well. My husband and I recently moved to the area and stumbled upon this gem. My husband loves lamb so he got the lamb biryani and I got the chicken biryani. We both thought our dishes were flavorful, filling and reasonably portioned. We were able to save some for the next day. We didn't feel like it was overpriced at all. The only reason I couldn't give is five stars is because I didn't stay and eat in the restaurnt (my own choice) and also I asked for medium spice but I definitely think mine was super spicy. I can handle spice but I legit had to drink three bottles of water. We would definitely go back though. Next time I will get mild and we will sit inside the establishment. This place is a must try. In full transparency, this is the third time I have ever had Indian cuisine. I've been reluctant in the past just not knowing enough about it so it intimidated me to order. We didn't get too adventurous with our first order but we could not believe how much we enjoyed the food. Chicken was cooked perfectly in both our dishes and we even tried a few apps, which we loved. We ordered online and in all honesty, it was not ready when we arrived at the restaurant about 40 minutes later, but they have only been open for two weeks and I'm sure still trying to figure out their "flow." Regardless, they made it up with their friendliness and accommodating nature. Not sure if it was the owners or employees who I dealt with but all showed the friendliness of having a stake in the business. D was super helpful explaining some of the dishes and was thoughtful about our selections. We started with the chicken kabob which was perfectly spiced to our liking and the tandoori chicken. My wife and I were in Flemington, NJ today and had lunch at a new restaurant that came highly recommended, the Curry Zone. The restaurant was beautifully decorated, the food was delicious, and they served huge portions. My plate was easily 14 inches by 11 inches. They placed a small tray of candies on our table when we arrived as well as some bread with two different chutneys to spread on them. We split the vegetable samosa appetizer. My wife had the fish curry and I had the Paneer Pasanda. Both of us enjoyed every course. We could only eat half of our meals and took the other half home. They also have a legit Indian food market next door with pantry staples and fresh veggies. What a shame we are leaving NJ in three weeks. read more
