I don't normally buy 1/2 pints of Strongbow but it was a very cheap £1.50 something which I was very impressed with ... maybe that's a standard price? Who knows. We came back looking for some dessert and while the seating area was nearly full, they stretched us over two tables which was nice. I ordered the apple tart (£4) and the waitress was amazing at keeping us informed in how long it would take for food to arrive as they were pretty busy. The tart was super tasty and I really liked it, although I only ate the filling. The decor is lovely - similar to the Butterfly and the Pig in a shabby chic kind of way, and it really works well in the dining area. I do feel like that lovely atmosphere is a little lost in the rest of the bar but perhaps that will come with time.

The atmosphere was welcoming and warm, the rugby was on the telly, and it was moderately busy; always a good sign. My only slight gripe is that it cost the better part of ten squids for two pints of Blue Moon. Having said that, as Briony C. also pointed out, they have many half pints at £1.50 which is really good value. I saw a few people ordering and receiving food while we were in, and although I can't comment on tastes, the food looks very delectable and it smelled divine. It was also great value for money also; I don't think any of the mains cost more than a tenner. I'll be back Duchess...

First time's a charm[1]. If you're seeking Scottish cuisine, look no further…read more Haggis carbonara (£18.75) is a recent addition to Mharsanta's menu - my Scottish friend tried it and told me "it's rich!" - and after I sampled it, I knew I had to come back for it. And I did. After a night of touring local pubs, I ended up at Mharsanta for this wild pasta dish. And I'll say: devouring a plate of this is both a commitment and a pleasure. And after a small twist of the arm, I ended up having three more drinks than planned. They've got a full bar. Take that as you will. Thanks Olivia (x2), Liam, and Halima for putting up with me. Credit accepted. [1] Usually it's "second time's a charm", but I was a smitten kitten after my first visit.

We had reserved the private dining room downstairs, and had a dedicated bartender, who got us started with drinks. I tried a range of the peaty Islay whiskies, such as the Laphroaig 10, Lagavulin 8, and Lagavulin 16 - which smelled the peatiest but was surprisingly smooth. Once we were seated, we ordered a variety of starters. I tried the crispy fried calamari, hand diced king scallops, Stornoway black pudding croquettes, and Haggis Scotch Egg (my favorite), and then ordered the haggis carbonara (in honor of my Italian friend and colleague Adriano) as my main course. This was an inspired choice as I thoroughly enjoyed it, even though Adriano disapproved as they didn't make it "right!" Nobody else except me wanted dessert - I was curious about the traditional Cranachan (Scottish raspberries, whisky, cream and oats) - which looked delightful, but was more cloying than light and airy. Overall, a memorable experience, partly because of the drink and food, but mostly because I enjoyed the company of colleagues who are quickly becoming friends.

They were very nice on the phone and said no reservation needed that day and casual was fine. The space is really nice and classy as it says. The staff were all super nice!! Now the food, two of us had the Cote de something, basically a bone in ribeye. Talk about amazing!!! You could cut it with a fork, no kidding!!! No knife needed!! The garlic butter with it was not needed, but was also amazing, dipped my mashed potatoes in it. It isn't cheap nor overly priced, but for the classy place and the excellent meat and service it was worth it!!! I would rate this steak too 5 maybe top 3 all time!!! Most definitely will be back if/when in town!!

Waiter spent a great deal of time talking to us just as if we known him for a long time it was great. the level of friendliness and hospitality was very impressive. The menu is very nice and not expensive at all. TRUFFLED BRIOCHE- The dish is amazing even though I did not taste any truffle but there was a entire truffle mushroom itself there, the plate they presented it in was annoying to rest the silverware, was a bowl type of plate and the fork kept falling in lol GOLDEN BREEZE- the drink was suggested by our waiter and it was amazing cudos to him! GNOCCHI- WHAT an unfortunate plate. This was to me not a gnocchi.i love the fact that our waited noticed and made sure to ask me if everything was ok with my choice, that shows that the staff cares about customer service. The gnocchi was blend and tasteless it to me was more of a polenta and not a gnocchi it was cooked pan fried and not like a past should so it was not a great plate definitely not a gnocchi. I would definitely recommend the place, not the gnocchi but the place was pretty nice. come and have a try!
