We came in around 5:45 pm. Not many people around the restaurant. They serve both Indian and Nepali food, so I decide to try selections from Nepal. Ordered Biryani Lamb. They have many tandoori naan selections, but we were told no naan was available today. Major bummer! Must be something wrong with their oven. The dish they served is huge. I could not finish the whole plate. They did have lots of lamb chuck in the jasmine rice , but slightly over-cooked. Maybe I should try goat next time. The food was good to great- we had vegetqble qnd chicken momo, biryani special, shrimp and chicken curry dishes. Needless to say we needed plenty of to go containers. The inside is stqndard space, lots of room, nothing fancy but I think this a plus for digging into the huge servings of food without restrictions. They seem to do brisk takeout too. We've ordered from this location several times. We've ordered a variety of their dishes in the past but tonight we ordered the Garlic Naan Bread, Chana Masala, Palak Paneer, Butter Chicken and Tikka Masala. It was all flavorful, but I feel like the containers were not as full as they have been in the past. The Butter Chicken had small sized diced chicken and the Tikka Masala had bigger chunks of chicken. We are a family of 4 and I normally get 2 servings for each of us out of their meals but tonight we had hardly any left from the order we placed. The sauces are delicious! I can eat that alone with the Basmati Rice. I was a bit disappointed on the lack of chicken in the main dishes as there was an abundance more of the sauce than the protein. Tasty and delicious, we are slowly eating our way through Charlotte's South Asian restaurants. Curry Gate 2 was a hit. This time, we're eating at dinner time so with my chicken curry and my wife's vegetarian curry, we were able to enjoy the garlic and chilli naan. Good sized portions and the spice levels worked well here. For us 2 and 3 were just right for some burn but enough that we could still taste the flavor. I like how you can customize the spice levels and it'll definitely add some heat so proceed with caution. I also thought that everything was decently portioned. I only finished about half of my tikka masala dish and had the other half to take home. Our server was Puja, and she was super sweet! Very attentive and efficient as well. Compared to the original, the second Curry Gate is a bit more of a restaurant with traditional table service. It's nothing fancy; it looks like a repurposed Pizza Hut, but the food they're producing is vastly better than the Hut, and the smell wafts over to the train station nearby. My mulligatawny soup had some delightful green peas to liven it up. My okra, however, was really lively due to me getting 8/10 on the spice scale. I like chili peppers as much as the next guy, but I didn't want to go any spicier than that, as an 8/10 was plenty enough to clear my sinuses. An abundance of vegan options are available, as are some Nepali specialties. Drink options are limited, and they're bringing out a bottled water for free for some reason, but you'll not likely find better food of this sort in this area. read more

This is there new location so not many customers when I came in today but I'm sure it will begin to change. The service was good, they are very nice and attentive. I enjoyed the food, atmosphere, and service for my lunch here, and I appreciate that as with other Himilayan restaurants at which I've dined, they have a spice scale from 1 to 10 for your preferences. I normally specify a "5" and here that felt a bit more like a "7." And while the food was delicious, the spices felt like it was maybe 80 percent flavor enhancement, and 20 percent spice for the sake of hot. This is not a big deal for me, if I were to visit again, I would simply drop my preference 1 notch... mentioning it here only for your awareness. Was planning on ordering online and then going to pick up, but it looks like the website still takes orders for the camp north end location, so I ended up calling a pickup order in. My wife and I had a double date with our favorite foodies so we ordered much of the menu and shared everything. I was craving some good Indian food so I stopped by Curry Gate. This place did not disappoint. To start we had the assorted appetizer which was delicious. I had the chicken Tikka Masala which was very good and rich in flavor. My spouse ordered the Palak with Paneer and absolutely loved it. The garlic naan was amazing, I think I could have eaten that all night long it was so good. Our server DK was so friendly and was absolutely wonderful.
