Honestly, I wish I could give a stronger review. On a truly positive note, the Chicken Andhra was excellent, savory, and tasted completely authentic. Likewise, the rice served alongside was high quality, long-grained and well seasoned with whole spices. That said, the atmosphere and organization were quite chaotic. Missing ingredients, confusion over what dishes had been served and to whom, a reservation system that seemed tailor made for disgruntled customers, and (I suspect) a lone server to doesn't actually know or understand the menu. The pricing overall is reasonable if a bit inflated because of the downtown location. A few odd things - water is served on clear plastic cups, not cutesy, not demure, not sustainable... Two bread options - Naan and parotta. If you know anything about Indian breads, these look, taste and are prepared very differently. Things had already been going awry, so I ate my "parotta" that was absolutely garlic naan. I DO appreciate the variety of dishes from the South of India, something that we don't always have ready access to in El Paso. India Palace's South Indian menu is limited at best - though there are no dosas available here the night I went, so I hesitate to suggest or recommend them. My friend and I decided to try the new Curry Bowl Indian Bistro in Downtown El Paso for lunch. I had heard from a couple of Indian families at my school that the food was delicious and authentic. First, a word of caution: parking is a challenge. With road closures and construction, it took me about 20 minutes to find a metered spot. I'd recommend parking in a garage and enjoying a beautiful walk downtown. The architecture is worth appreciating. When we arrived, the bistro was nearly empty, which gave us a chance to take in the nice, cozy ambiance, complete with fancy gold chairs and well-designed signage. The staff was friendly and explained the menu options, including the difference between plates and bowls. Bottled water is available and reasonably priced. We opted for the lunch special, which included an appetizer, a curry bowl, and a drink. They informed us that there was an extra charge for my friend's choice of curry goat, which was transparent and appreciated, unlike a complaint I read in a review. My friend ordered a samosa and curry goat bowl, while I went with a fried chicken 65 appetizer and butter chicken curry bowl. We both chose mango lassis, which were delicious--creamy, smooth, and with a slight yogurt tang. One unique aspect was that the cook, served us our mango lassis personally. However, I found it odd that he handed us the straws with his bare hands. Wrapped straws would have been more sanitary. When our food arrived, it was served in small meal prep containers, which felt out of place in such a nicely decorated bistro. The portions were also surprisingly small; the appetizer and main course were the same size. Despite this, the food was excellent. The rice was flavorful, and both the butter chicken and fried chicken were well-seasoned. The curry goat was rich and meaty. However, I wish we had been given an option for spice levels; my friend would have preferred less spice, while I, accustomed to El Paso's spicier flavors, would have liked more heat. The bistro got busier as the lunch crowd arrived, mostly workers from nearby offices. The meal prep containers made sense for to-go orders, but they felt a bit cheap given the restaurant's atmosphere. If you're considering this place for a nice date, it might not be the best choice. Our experience was somewhat marred by a person repeatedly entering and demanding money from us, then cursing us when we didn't have cash. A greater police presence would have made me feel safer, especially in the middle of the day. I'm glad this authentic curry place exists in El Paso, although the hours are a bit limited: they're open from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM Monday through Thursday, and until 10:00 PM on Fridays and Saturdays. I love Indian, but even by El Paso standards this place was a huge disappointment! This location is express service, meaning you order at the counter and everything is served in plastic containers (meal-prep style), so portions are smaller. Even the cutlery and drink cups are cheap plastic. Prices are on par with a full service traditional restaurant. If the food was great, I would not have cared, but that wasn't the case . Got a combo plate with butter and andrha chicken (goat was unavailable) with basmati rice and I added garlic naan. The only decent item was the butter chicken. The sauce on the Andrha was bland and watery, the rice was salty and crusty, and the naan was rubbery and tasted microwaved. Nothing really tasted fresh or made to order. Not sure if their other location with a full menu is any better, but stay clear of this one. read more

I love their butter chicken. Great place to grab lunch, the lunch specials were yummy. I ordered dinner but was disappointed that the meal portions were so small and very expensive. Oh well, the splurge is worth it but I think this is going to be a lunch thing only. I'm taking a friend for lunch next week! read more

Wonderful food! We had the butter chicken, butter paneer masala and the Andhra chicken. We showed up for a late lunch and ordered the lunch bowls. The proprietor was very friendly and engaging. He asked if we had time to wait for the rice to be done, about 10 minutes. We agreed and because we were patient he gave us some garlic naan and Malabar parota. Bowls were $9.99 each which we felt was reasonably priced for lunch. All the dishes were very well spiced and very tasty. A stand out was the butter chicken and the garlic naan was perfect! Butter chicken is VERY GOOD! Chicken fry biryani was disappointing -- the rice was properly cooked and well spiced, however the chicken was overcooked to the point that it was an inedible. So dry and hard that no amount of chewing was enough. Paratha was weirdly hard too -- not sure what was going on with that. However, we will visit again solely for the butter chicken. Just a heads up that the space is very small so if picking up food to-go, make sure to call it in -- there is no space to wait for your order inside. read more

Expensive. AND, fine dining quality food. If you are looking for large portions and cheap, try somewhere else. This is pure elevated authentic. The rice is perfection, and we all know if you can't make rice, anything else won't matter. Like mom went to cooking school and got her degree. Yeah MOM! Ask for mom's homemade chutney that is amazing! It's the hot sauce you need and can't get enough of to eat. I'm waiting for the jar sales. The parotta is not a paratha. The parotta was in shreds. The food is Good, I had buttered chicken and rice. I went in on a Tuesday and the door was locked. I called they stated they werent closed but they were about to Close in 15 minute And they would reopen at 5. I asked why on the website and on maps it says different times and he stated I tried to fix it but it should be fixed on the website but its not. I paid for parking and everything because it stated they were open. That was a waste of money. The ordering online is never avaliable and I have tried and when I called another time to ask why isn't working they said closed early because it got too busy for them and they needed a break. If I could give a zero I would. The older man at the counter has the most terrible customer service to the point of making me lose my appetite. I went looking for a good meal and instead was received with a sarcastic and patronizing checkout process for not wanting to be overcharged. Seems to me that this is a common practice for them to overcharge and add additional charges in order to squeeze a few more bucks out of their clientele.
