The yoga instructor was charismatic, welcoming, and made the class enjoyable for first-timers. The only downside was how crowded the class was. Boy, they were right!! Our class took place on a Sunday evening and it was the perfect way to unwind before the busy week ahead! I left feeling relaxed, refreshed and calm - three feelings that I hadn't experienced much beforehand as it's been a stressful couple of months for me. When you first get there, you'll likely stand outside the front door (located on the second floor inside the building) as the instructor will open it just before class starts. IMPORTANT: they ask you to leave your shoes outside the front door, so if you're not comfortable with that, don't book a session! I'll definitely be returning as I really enjoyed this experience!

On her website it does mention that doors will close after 5 mins. My sister and I got there right at 5:55pm as the class was starting at 6pm. We mention d that we have a couple others who are stuck behind an accident but will will be here by 6:10. She stated that there were 7 people missing and that she would wait until 6:10 to close the doors. Okay, thank you being things can happen. She literally waited for one person to come and then closed the doors. My friends literally came at 6:10 and being that two others were 2 mins behind they decided to not come in and just leave that way others aren't sitting out. That's fine. She gave them their money back. Again, thank you. However, the customer service is not there. The experience is good, I would do it again, just, not there. Going through her Google reviews, it makes sense. The meditation portion was great, but she isn't the friendliest. Upon arriving, she states to put your shoes on a shoe rack in the hallway. My sister wore some Jordans. There is NO way she was going to leave them in the hallway to end the experience and they not be there when done. So she put them in the cubby inside the room. When we were done, there is a place in the lobby with stools and couches you can sit on. We tried to sit down to put on our shoes, she stood right in front of the carpet, extended her arms from east to west and said, "no, no, I don't allow shoes in this area..." that's fine, but to shoo us into the hallways... that could have been handled differently. Needless to say, I would love to try it again, just not here. As the customer service isn't top tier. The experience is.

Devanand Yoga Center has been my Home for the last fifteen years. It has enabled me to stay in…read moreshape. I owe it to DYC, that I am flexible, and stronger in my forties than I was in my twenties. The center is genuinely dedicated to helping people of diverse abilities attain their finest potential for that day-- a true non-profit in practice and spirit. Now comes the most important part, that is the Yoga teacher. At the Devanand Yoga center we have a master teacher who has honed his practice and teaching through the years and attained a deep knowledge and understanding of Hatha yoga. He is creative with his routines, humble and compassionate in his approach, and safe in his technique. As opposed to other studios, he practices with his class and knows how far and how long to hold. He uses humor to make everyone feel included in their yoga journey. This is crucial in a practice such as yoga, that it cultivate fitness in a NON-COMPETITIVE manner. Perfection is not the aim here and one competes with no one. We are encouraged to close our eyes while we practice. At the same time, very easily the yoga routines at DYC challenge the body.. work up a sweat, and leave you exhilarated. There is a great emphasis on internalizing body awareness, alignment, and tuning in to our selves as we move. Finally, each routine is different.. has been different for the last several years. Forget sameness, have no set expectation before a class. Unroll a mat and be prepared to discover. Pause and just relax in between if you want to. Take a break. Last but not the least, PROPS. From time to time, the teacher introduces straps, weights, chairs and the use of yoga room walls to enable a student to reach farther and experience deeper stretching. If this is what you are looking for come in and practice. Close your eyes so you see no one else but follow only your breath and the lucid instruction of the yoga teacher.

I decided this would be a good start for me and since the center is so close to my home I have no reason to not go. I went to my first class yesterday and it was a packed room but there was enough space for everyone. I was a little tense before arriving because I had a pretty hectic day. As soon as I stepped into the center I felt a sense of calm. Rafael is absolutely amazing and very kind. He explained every position that we were in. He was very good at showing us how to pay attention to our bodies. He emphasized numerous times that this is not a race you do only what your body allows you to do. He had no problem walking around the room to make sure we were doing our best in each pose and he has an amazing sense of humor which is very soothing. I am definitely looking forward to my next class with everyone. I am very happy I came across this place and I would recommend it to anyone that is interested in yoga whether you are a beginner or advanced you will appreciate the class.

I felt this sense of belonging. I didn't know anyone but I felt right at home. The instructors genuinely want and try to get to know each of us and make us feel appreciated as a member of the Salt Power community. Each instructor has similar style and poses/flow moves, but adds their own unique flare. Some classes are instructed with music, but most are silent and all you can hear is your breathing. My single, most favorite thing about Salt Power is the inclusion and the warmth (figuratively, not literally though it is ~90F). No matter each individual's place in their practice, the instructors always make sure to express to everyone that whatever they are doing is accepted and amazing. Personally, I respond well to positive affirmation so I really appreciate this. If I don't have a pose, but it is recognized that I am working on it, it encourages me to try harder. It's not everybody's style, but it sure is mine! If you haven't checked out Salt Power and are unsure about committing to a place to practice, you can check out their Happy Hour class because it is donation based and you really get a sense of the community. Every class I go to, I make at least one new friend, but usually more. In addition, they have an awesome promotion where the first 30 days are only $30. That's the equivalent of 2 drop-ins. What a steal. I am so happy I found Salt Power and I am so excited for my journey with them.

I can rely on this studio to offer rich knowledge about the body and spaciousness that can only be created with a slow and mindful approach. I am deeply grateful to have found this gem of a studio.
