This place is a jewel. Just returned from a 3-day annual meditation retreat with Houston's Thich Nhat Hanh Sangha - about 40 of us. Our first time at this beautiful center and we look forward to returning for many years to come. It was perfect even with constant heavy rain. Lovely spacious immaculately maintained grounds. All but one of the buildings are connected by wide sidewalks with lots of benches and - best of all - handsomely covered (not enclosed) for protection from sun and rain. The food - vegetarian & mostly Chinese-inspired - was varied, plentiful, and delicious. The dormitories - separate for women and men - are clean, comfortable, and basic. Some rooms have private baths, some use a communal bathroom. Each dorm has a meditation room with cushions. The large library which served as our meditation hall has walls of books - mostly in Chinese, but a small English language section of meditation and Buddhist books. The staff is very kind and attentive. The campus dog is loving. Not a single complaint from this reviewer. I would like to learn more about the statutes, art, and icons that arise from the Chinese tradition, with which I'm not familiar. Looking forward to exploring the grounds and trails on a future visit when it's not raining. read more
