We exchanged some money here for our trip to Japan. They definitely had better rates than changing currency at Bank of America. I overheard they say they charge 3% of whatever is the current exchange rate. Also, service was good. They count your money and the exchanged money in front of you to ensure everything is good. We were in need of some New Zealand dollars for an impending trip and LA Currency is always our go-to. I was so happy to see they've opened a Pasadena branch bc it's so much closer for me! I called ahead on Wednesday and told them how much I wanted and they had it ready for me in less than 48 hours - excellent turnaround time imo. The staff are very friendly and the shop is clean. They even have a large couch for seating if you need it and a ramp for handicap accessibility. Their exchange rates are decent and they don't charge any extra fees or commissions. They do mark up their rates just a tad but it's nominal. For example, the exchange rate for NZD to USD on the day I went was 0.60 but they charged me like 0.628953 so it's minimal and always is the best deal we've found in SoCal. And all my bills were in excellent condition. They also have a Yelp check in offer that gives you $3 off so that's always nice! Once I got inside, service was fast and I was in and out - but I had a very long wait when I arrived (40 mins!!). When I called ahead they told me to come anytime after 12 or 1230. So I arrived around 1250pm and was met by a locked door and a note saying they were closed for lunch until 130pm. Given how much traffic there is around the SGV it wasn't worth it to try and go back home so I had to kill 40 minutes waiting. Not a huge issue bc I wasn't in a terrible rush - there's a large Target across the street so I got some needed shopping done while I waited. But I really wish they would've told me. The staff explained it's a new policy they just started this week so it's understandable that they probably just forgot to mention it since it's a new pattern. The location is excellent - near Paseo Colorado surrounded by shops and restaurants and right across the main Target for Pasadena. Parking is all free street parking and plenty of it. Just be sure to check the signs for time limits etc. Other than the long wait, everything was great and I'll definitely be using them in the future for my foreign currency needs. read more

Quick and painless. I called for a rate, which was great. My husband called BofA and Chase who didn't answer their phones and sent me go to Chase anyways. They were going to sell CAD to me for $10CAD less than what this place offered. The only choices were to suck it up and get ripped off by the bank, pay for uber or walk to an exchange place in Canada, or drive here to Currency Exchange LA. Lesson learned. So if you need to exchange money, even from US to a different currency, come support this smaller establishment. While you're at it, stop by next door for a yummy sandwich and coffee at Lee's. They are located across from Target. I found street parking fairly easy in front of the building. read more

New location! Needed to purchase some euros for a family member who will be studying in the Netherlands for the fall term. I've been to their Glendale location once before and had a great experience...it's nice that there's a new location a bit closer to home. Much smaller than Glendale location. Street parking in front. For those in-the-know, it's basically across the street from the Pasadena Target (the one closer to Lake Ave), right next to Lee's Sandwiches. Was greeted as soon as I entered the lobby, which smelled of fresh paint. The worker was very kind and was able to exchange funds in a matter of minutes. I had a positive experience here. It is located across the street from Target and I was able to find a free parking spot right in front of Target. When I went in, there was no line and the lady behind the counter was able to get me the British pounds I needed right on the spot. I had tried to get money from my local bank at first but they would have had to order the money and it was questionable whether it would come in time for my trip. I like the fact I can revive the currency I needed; however, they claim they don't charge foreign fees but the currency exchange rates is lower than what it's supposed to be so technically they do charge you foreign fees after I research the formation to do a comparison. read more
