I forgot how nicely appointed the interior is. It has a fabulous bar area that was full. The hostess was great. She gave us a nice table with an excellent view. Our server came over and introduced herself. We ordered a couple of reserve cocktails, including a special Manhattan and a Last Word. The cocktails were fantastic. We began with crab cakes and a wedge salad. We split both so we could try each appetizer. I have to say that these crab cakes were amongst the best I have ever had. The Wedge salad was also very nicely prepared and very flavorful. The dinner rolls were also excellent. Many places forget this entirely these days. We ordered our entrees next. My wife ordered the filet medium rare, and I ordered the 2-pound baked stuffed lobster. We ordered a very nice half-bottle of Cabernet as well. The entrees were served, and my wife cut into the steak. It was way overcooked. The middle was medium well, and the ends were well done. We sent it back. These things happen, and we took it in stride. The problem that developed was time. After 10 minutes, we were told by our server that the new steak would be right out. Well, 5 minutes later, we heard the same thing from Matthew (the manager?). My entrée was getting cold, and I was getting a bit aggravated. I went to the bathroom. When I got back to the table, my wife had her new filet. She said that Matthew apologized profusely and told her that both entrees would be taken off the bill. Her steak was perfectly prepared, and although my entree was a little cold, it was still excellent. I told Matthew that there was no need to remove my entree, but he insisted. As I said, these things happen. When they do, how the restaurant handles it determines how the customer's experience ends. Matthew went out of his way to make up for this mistake. We will return due to his actions. As I said, the cocktails and food were excellent. We want to sit at the bar as we are bar people. Try it out. You won't be sorry.

This was my favorite meal of our trip, & we hadn't planned for it…read more We were having coffee at the end of the pier and decided we needed something more substantial, after a verrrry late breakfast. Despite the fact that we were towards the end of the typical lunch crowd, after 1:20 pm, the place was still hopping. I'd recommend making a reservation in advance and requesting the upstairs seating section: they have the best view. My view was of the bar, the kitchen, and the hall leading to the bathrooms. Without a reservation, we were grateful for any table. Having spent 4 times the bill here on dinner the night before, we were delighted to discover they had a lunchtime menu special for just $22. I ordered their salad (originally out of "obligation" to assuage my nutritional guilt) & an enjoyed a gorgeous burger. Both were wonderful--the salad was really fresh and flavorful and paired so well with the burger's savory decadence. My partner ordered a cup of clam chowder, which she thought was excellent, and the same tasty burger. We both received very generous portions we were unable to finish. Service was friendly and allergy-aware. They had a coat check, which was a nice touch given our many layers in March. Staff were solicitous and plentiful. Spoke with at least one manager...maybe 2? I'd definitely return...with reservations!

Beech Jamestown Where Date Night Dreams Come True…read more Listen, I don't write reviews often. But Beech in Jamestown had me pulling out my phone faster than I pull out my wallet at the end of a great meal. We showed up early like the eager, slightly-too-hungry couple we are. Did they make us wait awkwardly by the hostess stand? Absolutely not. They swept us into a bright, window-wrapped room so cheerful it practically hugged us. Turns out they'd lost power earlier that day. LOST POWER. You wouldn't have known it. These people were cooler than the other side of the pillow. Now. The food. Oh, the FOOD. I got the steak with puréed pomme, asparagus, and carrots, and I need you to understand -- this thing had a sear on it that made me want to stand up and applaud. The sauce? Somebody's grandmother's secret recipe dipped in liquid gold. It melted in my mouth so fast I briefly forgot my own name. My wife had to remind me we were in public. Speaking of my wife -- she ordered the Tortellacci. Stuffed pasta, porcini mushrooms, ricotta, limoncello cream sauce, white truffle shavings. She took one bite and just stared at me. No words. Just stared. That's how you know it was BANANAS. In the best possible way. The rolls came out hot and fresh, which is honestly its own love language. Our water and bread gal? Sunshine in human form. Smiling, attentive, welcoming -- the kind of person who makes you feel like a guest, not a table number. Our waitress treated us like family, which for two people on date night is exactly the vibe you need. Beech, you had us at the bread. You kept us at the steak. We'll be back on this island, and you will absolutely see our faces again. 10/10. No notes. Just compliments.

Sandy was our amazing server, provided great recommendations and very attentive to her respective tables. Cocktails were great, antipasto was a great start not too much to leave room for the main and desert! The focaccia was light and flavorful as well. Had the rigatoni bolognese which was prepared perfectly and had great flavor. Nearly licked the plate clean! Saved a little room for desert with both cakes being tasty and washed down with an espresso martini. Lovely place to have a date night or night out with friends!

She was nice enough to let me try them and I chose the Trevino which was very good and paired great with my food. The bread was nothing special but solid and the high quality olive oil made up for it. For my main I got the chicken milanese and it was divine. I loved the vinaigrette on top perfectly acidic and vinegary. It cut though the oil and heaviness of the breading which was perfectly salted by the way. The arugula bean salad was sooo good and created such a well balanced meal. The one thing I will say is I believe their fryer does fish and chicken bc my chicken had a slight ocean taste but since I like fish I was not bothered but non fish people beware!

We stepped into their beautiful tasting room and were excited to find a new sparkling white on the menu (of course we had to bring a bottle home). I also stayed true to my usual go-to, the Vidal Blanc... cold, crisp, refreshing, and always a winner. As always, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. We spotted familiar local faces, chatted with the knowledgeable and friendly staff, and even got greeted by an adorable puppy which absolutely made our day. Between their great events, visiting food trucks and the peaceful setting, Greenvale continues to be a staple for anyone looking to enjoy great wine and a beautiful slice of Portsmouth. Highly recommend a visit!

Stay away from the big corporate places and absolutely go here !…read moreSo I'm already planning my child's wedding here and she doesn't even have a boyfriend. We accidentally stumbled upon this insanely amazing vineyard on our way back to the airport from Newport. It is off the beaten path and right on the river. The staff is beyond friendly and really knew their wine. They have an extensive wine list. I would highly suggest getting the flights. At the particular time we were there if you bought two different flights, you were only missing out on tasting three different wines. If you are a Chardonnay lover, they have four different types right now oak undo in a few more. They have one wine right now that screams Thanksgiving dinner. They are all back is to die for. You were right on the river and they have bonfires some nights as well. Plenty of inside and outside seating of course they do a wine club which I still may go back and do. I truly cannot say enough about this place. It just seems like you're in a rustic German village drinking wine looking out on a a vineyard on one side and a beautiful river on the other.
