During the scheduling process, I specifically informed the staff that I would be using a gift card and was simply told to bring it with me to my appointment. I visited yesterday, and overall, the experience was very enjoyable. My massage was excellent--Jenni was absolutely wonderful and provided outstanding service. The facial was also relaxing and pleasant, although the facial rooms felt somewhat small and cramped. My concern arose during checkout. Because I was still relaxed and a bit distracted after my services, I didn't immediately realize that my total came to approximately $225 before tips. When I got home, my husband was understandably disappointed that I had to pay out of pocket when the gift card was intended to cover the experience. I called the following day to inquire about the difference and was informed that the Self-Care Package must be paid for in advance in order to receive the package pricing. While I understand policies are important, this requirement was never mentioned when I booked the appointment, despite my specifically requesting the package and informing staff that I would be using a gift card. I also reviewed the website and was unable to find any information indicating that advance payment was required to receive the package rate. From a customer service perspective, this was disappointing. I booked the exact services included in the package and clearly requested that package when scheduling. Had I been informed of the advance payment requirement, I could have addressed it at that time. Instead, I was charged approximately $30 more for the same services. Given the circumstances--and especially after I called to explain that the package was chosen because the gift card amount closely matched the package price--I would have appreciated some flexibility or consideration. While the quality of the services themselves was excellent, clearer communication regarding package requirements would help avoid similar misunderstandings for future customers.

My girlfriend was kind enough to book and prepay for a 90-minute deep tissue massage for me, and decided to book one for herself at the same time. The first 45 minutes were spot on. The original masseuse found the knots in my back, neck, shoulders, and left hip and went straight to work. But midway through the session, someone else entered the room and took over without warning. First off, her hands were freezing. Second, she was completely worthless--zero pressure, no deep tissue work at all, just loads of oil and light rubbing. She "worked" on my right leg, but did absolutely nothing to address the muscle tension. By the end of the session, I was drenched in oil and literally walking with a limp because my left leg had been properly massaged by the first person, but my right leg received zero actual treatment. To make matters worse, when my girlfriend (who had the same masseuse for her entire session) approached the manager about why my therapist was switched, the manager's excuse was: "Oh, because it was her turn." No apology whatsoever. The manager just casually said, "When he comes back, he can request the full session be with the original masseuse." There will not be a next time. Terrible customer service, zero care for a client in pain, and completely unprofessional management. I would never recommend Thai Spa on Eastern Ave.

This is an upscale Japanese (not Chinese)/Asian massage spa. Nice decor and upscale dressed staff…read more This was my 2nd time there. The massage that I had was great! The table was very comfortable (most Asian massage tables are too hard for me) and has a head cradle instead of a hole in the table. The staff that I met was very nice. The negative comments that I have read seem to be from people that are not knowledgeable about Asian massage spas. To address some of the negative comments: Almost all Asian spas that I have gone to ask for a "tip" upfront. It's why the advertised prices are so low. The $ that I paid, including the upfront tip, for a 90 minute massage was appropriate for an upscale place like this. If you are polite the people you talk to are nice to you too. From my experience with just about every Asian spa that I have visited they say "we are busy" when they don't have any availability at that time. It's because of their limited English, not because they are being rude. Most Asian spas don't have a receptionist. That's how they keep their prices low. It is common for your massage person to have to answer the phone or door during your massage. The only negative thing is that their advertised price, including what they quote over the phone, doesn't include the mandatory tip. If you walk in to make an appointment for a later time they tell you the full price upfront. As a Japanese Asian spa they do not do reflexology foot treatments (massages) From my experience in Japan it is customary for female staff to only massage male clients and male staff to massage female clients. It's not sexist. It's cultural.

Posted price: $70 for 1 hour. Actual price: $130 for 1 hour because you have to "tip" upfront or…read morethey don't want your business at all.

I love this place!…read more Clean, friendly, and priced well. A great ambiance and I apologize that I wake up in mid-snore. Lots of parking! His skill, professionalism, and ability to truly help you relax are the reasons my husband and I keep returning. That said, the overall wellness experience feels like it's missing something important: the small touches that make a place feel genuinely restorative rather than transactional. Something as simple as warm heated towels on the shoulders while transitioning between areas, which is fairly standard at many wellness spas, would elevate the entire experience. Especially at this price point (and for being a "member"), it feels like basic comfort and care should already be included, instead of being treated as an add-on. The massage itself is excellent because of Carlos. But when you go to a wellness space, you want to feel taken care of, not like every extra moment of comfort comes with another charge. It's the difference between feeling truly relaxed... and feeling nickel-and-dimed in a place that's supposed to help you unwind.

A business shouldn't only be measured by its positive experiences, but also by how it handles mistakes. After a great massage focused on a problem area, I booked a follow-up appointment with the Associate before leaving. As the date approached, I received no communication, so I called only to be told there was no record of my booking. Then, a month later (on the same date I had originally booked), I received a call from the manager, Karina, asking why I had missed my appointment. I explained the prior issue and that no appointment existed on my end. A week later, Karina called again to say they would "courtesy waive" a no-show fee. I reiterated that there should be no fee at all, as I never booked that date. I also explained an Associate never called me as they usually do to confirm the appointment and asked if their approach had changed. She responded that she needed to pay her employee and close her books, which missed the point entirely. She also mentioned an email had been sent - I later found it in my junk folder, but I had no reason to look there for an appointment I didn't make. Had I seen it, I would have contacted them to correct their error. While I've had positive experiences at Lapis & Oak, I'm disappointed in how this situation was handled. I understand mistakes happen, and I'll take steps like booking directly through their website rather than with a person and checking junk folders more often. However, what I find most frustrating and the reason for this review, is the lack of accountability and the tendency to shift blame onto the customer.
