A hot day of sightseeing screamed for ice cream, and this pink house answered. There two people working, so we had to wait a little bit. They were friendly, so we didn't mind. Besides, we already screamed for ice cream. They had a good variety of flavors, from cotton candy to Superman. Yes, the ice cream man of steel. Pretty great ice cream. Small place in a big house. But the ice cream flavors were unique and tasty. They had a play doh flavor, I really regret not trying that just to see what it tasted like. Our family vacations just would not be complete without going here. This place is more than just a place to eat ice cream, it's a community center. We look forward to watching our children grow, and come to expect to go to this special movie showing desert sharing place. We stopped here a couple of times while we were staying in Avon. A very family friendly ice cream shop. They have late hours which is great when you have a late night craving for some ice cream. They have a ton of differently flavors and sundae options. The last night we were there they will showing Frozen on a screen outside. Was ready to be so pumped for my experience here but later turned out to be be my worst night on vacation!!! Let's start off with my family and I just finished mini golfing about 30 minutes away. We passed many ice cream shops on the way here, but we heard the shop of Cups and Cones and I really wanted to try this. When we got there parking was weird and and took a few minutes to find a spot. But I guess if you really can't get more space you have to deal with what you got. I can understand that. Now it wasn't that packed or busy when I got there a few minutes before 8pm!! Only waited about 5 minutes to place my order. Just enough time to decide what I wanted. And what the rest of my family wanted. They did have only 3 staff working there that evening which can also be understandable because of the pandemic going around jobs can be tuff to get everyone back. Back they need to find a better system to use. The gentleman taking orders would have to leave every 5 minutes to help the other workers how to make things, but I guess if they are new they have to be trained. So here is now where the not so fun part is. Me and my family waited about 10 minutes for a ice cream to come out and which wasn't the worst wait possible but would have been more enjoyable if sooner. Now the two girls scooping all the ice cream wound walk out to the pick up door every so often with ice cream for people but never took a second to see if anyone needed help with anything. So in 10 minutes 4/5 people in my family got their ice cream. Now since all the tables outside were filled we decided to go back in the car and eat them there. But we were still missing 1 more ice cream cone. Everyone went back to the car and enjoyed there ice cream. But I stayed back with my ice cream in my hand on a CONE!!! And waited for a small strawberry ice cream in a cup. After about 10 minutes waiting for this ice cream to finally come out I went up and asked about my missing ice cream. They did they were sorry and they would get that right out. At that moment I was still fine and really saw no need to post any review but if not maybe a good one. Because mistakes happen I know I get it. But what really ticked me off was that I had to wait another 15 minutes to ask again for my missing ice cream. They said they were really sorry and they would have it right out. Well they did. But my ice cream that I ordered was half melted and half on the floor. Payed about $7 for and half of was wasted. And never got any refund. Now we only had about a 5 minute drive home where I though I would just eat it there. But since a waited so long for the other ice cream to come out and was so melted it dripped all over me and my car while my family was done with their ice cream. I'm giving this a 2/5 out of 5 because my family said their ice cream was good but it's only Hershey's ice cream. They don't even make it themselves. But the my soggy cold waffle cone was good. Just ask my floor on my car. I don't think I'm coming back to this place on any more of my vacations to the OBX. I think Dairy Queen or any ice cream shop would be better and cheaper. Don't think I'll get spend $30 for 5 people to get ice cream again either. Especially not even homemade ice cream!! Please train your staff better and if someone orders a dish or a cup please give them a spoon. I like to scoop my ice cream not drink it. read more

This was our first trip to cups and cones. Our 2yr old daughter absolutely loved the "pink house" and the "tangled" soundtrack that was playing outside when we pulled up. Inside we find that the walls are decorated with all Disney characters and my daughter was more into naming each one she recognized vs picking a ice cream flavor... once we ordered our picks (Sunday, chocolate German cake and cookies & cream) we were surprised about the amount of flies inside (alive and dead) within the sitting area. aside from that, we enjoyed our visit and the ice cream was very good. The ice cream is "Hersey" brand hand dipped ice cream. FYI it's very good whatever flavor you pick. We would definitely go back. read more

What a great ice cream cone you get here! I got a regular size two scoop cone in the homemade waffle cone. In the words of the trump"it was huge!" They use Hershey ice cream, I got Pistachio which was loaded with nuts. My daughter got a cup of coffee ice cream with chocolate sprinkles and nothing was left in the bowl, need I say more on that. My daughters boyfriend got a strawberry shake which he had to send back because it was like strawberry milk. The girl made good and added more ice cream, but it was served in a styrofoam cup, which was small and I don't think the best choice for such a drink. Overall it was a nice way to end our vacation. I recommend a stop when your in Avon. Very kid friendly and they run children's movies inside and outside which is great for the kids but a little loud for the adults. read more

My family has been coming to Avon, NC for the past 6 years or so, and Cups N' Cones is one of our frequent (ok, nightly) stops. Unfortunately, our experiences have declined over the past two years. We stopped by the other night for our first of what was to be many stops this week, but it looks like we will search elsewhere for ice cream this time around. The ice cream we were served had a stale taste, especially the peanut butter pretzel. The line was long...ish, and they only had one girl working. Normally I don't mind waiting, but waiting in line to receive stale tasting ice cream was disappointing. The house we are renting is right near the store, so it is unfortunate we have to find a new place. I'm sure we will come back and some point, but it is time for something new this trip. read more

Island Time ice cream was a very short walk from the beach house we rented for the week. We came here a few times. One time we show up shortly after 11am (their opening time), and there were a few people waiting, but no one working there. We waited about 10 minutes and left. The store that day truly lived up to its name and operated on Island Time. However, with that being said, they have a large assortment of ice cream flavors. Their ice cream is very good. I had the pistachio one day, the coconut almond (which was my favorite), and the German chocolate another day. The ice cream is great and 4.5 stars out of 5. The service, when on time, was friendly but a little slow. Overall, I would recommend this place for anyone visiting Avon and has a sweet tooth. read more

My family and I drove all the way from Rodanthe to cups and cones since it was highly rated here on Yelp. To be honest I'm shocked ratings are this high. It was a waste of my time and money to bypass other ice cream shops to come here. When we arrived I ordered a regular (2 scoops) of cookies and cream with birthday cake. The person taking my order interrupted me when I was stating the TWO flavors I wanted because he said I was going to fast? He didn't even give me a receipt; no big deal but I would have liked one. My sister ordered a mango Italian ice with strawberries on top and the guy taking her order had NO idea what "strawberries" "on top" meant. Finally he got what she was asking for. When she received her Italian ice, the strawberries on top looked GROSS. Not even the general color nor consistency of what strawberries should look like. My parents both ordered a regular one with two scoops and a cone the other in a cup. The guy charged them both for two scoops in cones, yet didn't even give my dad his ice cream in a waffle cone that he paid extra for. The people taking orders need to either pay closer attention or listen a little harder next time. It's not rocket science. The ice cream was basic, nothing amazing. I would have had a better experience and better tasting ice cream if I just went out to the store and bought some myself really.. The only cool part of this whole experience was that they were playing Lilo and Stitch outside. It's a hard pass in my book. read more
