The Cupertino hotel looked great when looking for a place to stay, while staying at the hotel reviews online didn't match up to the service we received. The front desk staff for both check in and out were very friendly and professional. The bartender in the lounge was also friendly and happy to help us get a few sodas. The hotel is enclosed where the pool is in the center of the court yard. It looked elegant from the photos and they had day of the week mats in the elevators. We staid in an Executive King which includes a living room, large dual sink bathroom and a full size bedroom with king bed and closet. Both the bedroom and living area had a TV. The room was clean, well maintained and the bed was comfortable. We will definitely stay again if we are in the area.

Mold in the first room's shower (see pic) then a mystery substance on the lamp shade in the second room (see pic). Asked for a discount for hassle, nothing. This hotel does not care about the experience of guests, Also their card maker is down, had to ask staff to be let into my own hotel room everytime. I am tired of no one being accountable, this would have been an instant discount 10 years ago.

cut my foot on the tack strip due to the carpet being worn out

My reservation at The Grand Hotel in Sunnyvale was transferred to The Cupertino Hotel due to availability issues. I was excited because the Cupertino Hotel is advertised as a 4-star hotel. To my dismay the only 4-star thing about the Cupertino Hotel is the price. The rooms and service are 3-star at best. The carpet is worn down to the point where the tack strip is exposed. I actually cut my foot on the tack strip. They advertise a daily happy hour with complimentary drinks from 5-6p but the bartender didn't show up and the front desk staff didn't know what happened. Lastly, they don't have a fitness center. This place is a hard pass for me in the future.

Ridiculous!! This is your tv in your room.

Claudio that was Saturday 1/17. Don't tell me that elevator is new. Other couple inside was confused when we walked in because the same exact thing happened to them.. And to say the desk is there always to help , Not!!!.. Trust me you would of remembered me if someone was actually there when we decided enough was enough. Oh and btw.. get that girl during the day some help. A customer actually grabbed the other phone that was ringing off the hook and put that person on hold. Kinda funny but not since we were waiting about 15 minutes for her to finish a call with a frustrated customer.. started bad from the get go.. that hotel sucks.

    Dirty carpet

Woman at the front test gave me a room with broken entrance light, paint on cabinets, tub didn't retain water. Dirty carpet, and an interesting attitude. The hotel as usually fine. Just this one room sucked.

Tv channel guide in the room.

Second night no hot water. Went downstairs public room also no hot water. Front desk said he reset and have to wait 1 hour. It's 11 pm already. Tired and want to hot shower and sleep. If not work need fix morning. Never experienced this. Also tv channel only works handful but the tv guide shows hundreds of channel. From desk confirmed only handful channel works.

    Stains

HORRIBLE place, I do not recommend. Room is dirty with stains and smells like a antique shop. They are short staffed and even then front desk is rude. They advertise room service and even have a menu in the room but when I called they said they don't have room service or food. The pool was very dirty the hot tub had tree branches at the bottom and dirt. The breakfast is sad and repetitive. They need to be honest on their website and take down all the fake pictures of this place because its ghetto. Will NEVER stay here again.

a mouse (rodent) in their bathroom. I had to remove it myself since housekeeping wasn't available for 2 hours

first the good part. The staff is very nice and try to be helpful. The location is also convenient, right off the 280 freeway. now the bad part (unfortunately). First, be careful walking to the shopping center nearby to eat something. I got some food and walking back around 8pm, a guy tried to rob me as the parking lot is dark. I would have thought Cupertino (home of Apple) is safe but apparently not. I wouldn't let my wife walk outside alone near this hotel. Besides that, there are other things to know. The free breakfast is horrible, and I wouldn't eat that for fear of getting sick. The building itself is old and not cared for. The photos of the building are very misleading. Dirty, dimly lit, and the hallways were freezing (they have outdoor hallways). That lead to my biggest shock, which was to find a mouse in our bathroom! Actually, my wife got up in the morning to use the bathroom and she shrieked at seeing the mouse run around when the lights came on. What was disappointing however, was the hotel's response. We called the front desk at 7am and the guy was nice, but was UNABLE TO HELP BECAUSE HOUSEKEEPING WASN'T AVAILABLE UNTIL 9AM! So we were stuck without a bathroom and worried the mouse will crawl under the bathroom door into the bedroom. That about sums up this hotel. Good staff but it's the same as a Motel 6 but 2x the price.

Another picture of the disgusting/creepy staircase.

This hotel is extremely dated. They absolutely should not be charging $150+ a night for the experience they gave my girlfriend and I. The first issue is the elevator/stairs access is outside, and you have to go through several areas of steps to get to. Which makes hauling luggage to your room a real pain. And you have to walk right next to the pool, which is kind of dangerous and really awkward for anyone who wants to go swimming. Zero privacy. Speaking of the Elevator, it was broken while staying there. While yes it was still "running"... the lights to the buttons didn't work. It took several minutes to reach the bottom. And after we pressed the second floor button it took us to the third floor. This leads us to our next serious problem, since the elevator was broken that forced us to take the stairs. Which were absolutely VILE. They were horribly stained carpet you could tell has never been cleaned since the opening of this hotel. The inside of the rooms was not much better. Our towels had yellow/brown stains all over them. The IHome had an Iphone charger from 2011... and the actual modern phone chargers were ripped off the table. I am stunned they are charging people money for these rooms. I will never stay here again.

Dirty moldy carpet in the stairwell.

***EDIT TO REPLY TO MANAGER'S RESPONSE (original review below)*** Thanks for the note about the window. I'll assume that's in good faith and not an attempt to cast doubt on my entire review. I agree part of the window was sealed shut. Part was not, though, allowing noise through. The window is one of the more minor concerns compared to the other issues raised. - We called twice to inquire about maintenance help regarding my wife's earring, and you'll have to ask your staff why no notes were made. I obviously am not privy to staff procedures and policies. - We did consider talking to someone at the front desk about all our concerns, but several people were already waiting to make complaints and asked for a manager. We overheard the same answer every time of "there is no manager here, there is no one you can talk to," so we just left. The location is good, and we heard good things about this place from years ago. I wish you the best in restoring the hotel to good working order. ***ORIGINAL REVIEW*** I can't select 0 or negative stars, so 1 will have to do. In my lifetime, I have never stayed in an establishment so poorly run and horribly outfitted. - There is a bar, but it's never open - There is no gym - Exterior lighting is so poor, we had trouble finding our room at night - When we first arrived (very late at night), our room window was open - We hung out the "do not disturb" sign one day, they ignored it, came into our room anyway to clean and moved all our belongings - Several outlets in the room don't work at all - There's a sign on the door, warning you to keep the deadbolt locked, the latch shut, and to contact management "if you are unsure who has showed up at your door" - The "breakfast" is 2 choices of cold cereal and terrible muffins - There were no lids for the coffee, so don't plan on taking a cup with you - The 2nd elevator was out of order - The back stairwell carpet looks like it has MOLD growing all over it and is absolutely covered in dirt and grime (see photos below) - The walls are so thin, you can hear everything above, below and outside (earplugs required) - My wife dropped an earring down the sink, we called for maintenance "there is no one available at all." We covered the drain with a small box (to note which drain), left for dinner, and the maids came later in the evening to clean the room, removed the box, cleaned the sink and now her earring is gone. WE DID NOT ASK FOR MAID SERVICE AT 7PM!!!!! I would understand if this sounds like it can't all be true, but it is. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!!!

***UPDATED 11/22/24*** Unfortunately a theft occurred by their staff so I'm soured on this place. Their security cameras are broken along with so many other ill maintained things. Housekeeping mistakenly took a USPS postal box they assumed was trash & when I frantically asked the front desk to help retrieve it, the gentleman that did stole our social security cards & other things from it. I never would've guessed if he didn't lie about where & how he found it to the police. After it was all sorted it sounds like this is a grift they have going since it wasn't actually thrown into the property trash. The manager arriving after this all happened was apathetic & no one ever really offered condolences or apologies for our stay which did not just include the identity & grand larceny thefts. I have emailed Claudio Bono who is the GM & replies to these reviews, while also running for public office, but no response yet. Adding insult to injury, I tipped everyone who helped before our noticed the missing items. November 2024 Stayed over two weeks & they had repeated hot water issues. Moved rooms three times (4th & 2nd floor) they even had a plumber come to repair, shutting the water off Saturday afternoon, but the hot water still had to be reset nightly because there was none. The elevator inspections posted are over 2 years expired. Be careful with directions, if you miss the driveway you end up on the freeway. It's very dated & ill maintained, but they offer 2 glasses of complimentary beer or wine from 5-6 PM daily. There is no restaurant on site or room service even though there are menus in the room. Free parking. The only ice machine is in the back on the first floor. Look at the real consumer photos to check out the lack of overall cleanliness, dismal breakfast offerings in broken cases & non operative fountain.

These hotels were perfect for busy business travelers like me. 20 years ago Aloft was a new concept brand under the Starwood family of hotels in their REIT portfolio, before Marriott acquired almost all of that portfolio of brands a few years ago. They were actually designed to be the essentials of what most solo business travelers needed, while reducing staff needs in restaurant operations. Add a little pizzazz with neon lighting on the side of the building or in the lounge, and modern design, many with mini-suite or Euro design concepts, and this started a whole new hotel trend different than the previous decades with Courtyard by Marriott concepts, or traditional (and expensive) full service Hiltons and Marriotts. This location is in the heart of Silicon Valley, amidst many Apple offices in Cupertino, and close to Sunnyvale, San Jose, Mountain View and other Tech suburbs. It seemingly was refurbished or updated a bit from its inception perhaps 15-20years ago. It has underground parking, and 3 EV chargers there, with overnight charging on the house! So I was doing some business in the south bay at Westfield Valley Fair Mall, up the peninsula in Belmont, and east on 237 in Milpitas during my stay. What was great is that I came back each night here, got my Tesla into an overnight EV parking space, and charged up my car overnight for free! I charge up overnight at home, too, but it isn't free. So this was a comfortable and efficient hotel for my purposes, and because it was off season, it was about $150/night. Not bad for Silicon Valley. Almost cheaper than many Apple accessories, and definitely cheaper than most Apple repairs, lol.

Our Studio 1 King, Sofa bed room was clean and spacious, and immediately earned our Poodle approval. Odd number rooms face the Main Street area, whereas even number rooms face the parking lot (something to keep in mind during check in). The true highlight was the restaurant's free breakfast, with a plethora of traditional breakfast options and additional items such as organic chocolate milk, fresh roasted potatoes, and various nuts. A few extra highlights included: late checkout of 1pm, pet relief area, and an expansive patio area which had plenty of couches, a fireplace, and tables. Overnight parking is at a nearby parking garage (free). Highly recommend the Residence Inn San Jose Cupertino for a clean, centrally located stay with an excellent complimentary breakfast buffet.
