This is such a charming place. It's very clean and beds are comfortable. The inn was built in 1938 so has the aura of a historic motel. We had a handicapped room which was a little less than perfect, just the bathroom. It could use a little attention to the chipped vanity top and the shower head. For the money this hotel is 5 stars. Our experience staying at Wittle Inn was very pleasant, first the check ing was easy and the person was very nice, gave us recommendations of where to eat, and the room was very clean and comfortable, it had all the the toiletries even toothbrush and toothpaste things that we had seen just in Japan. I stayed here for 5 days, April 1 to April 6. When I arrived the walk leading to the office had a string barrier set up as it had just been painted. There was no sign indicating where to go to find the manager. I walked around the side and yelled, "Hello" and a woman answered from inside and I told her who I was and that I was checking in. She sent her husband out. He gave me the key to room 102 and said, "You can pay later or tomorrow." My room was clean, and there was a king sized bed, dresser, desk, two night stands, 2 wall lamps, and 2 older upholstered chairs. The whole room looked dated except for the flat screen tv mounted on the wall. There was a mini microwave, mini refrigerator and 4 cup coffee maker, and 2 bottles of water, and some small containers of shampoo in the bathroom. The motel has fairly good sound insulation. One night a car in the shopping center across the street was playing really loud music. When I went into my room I barely heard it. Now for the things that caused me to give this place just one star and not ever return: 1) When I arrived one of the lights near the bed was burnt out. I reported it to the female of the managing couple and she told me, "I will have my husband change it for you - he'll be there in 10 minutes." He never came. The next morning I took the bulb with me back to the office and gave it to her. She said she'd have the maid replace it. The maid did in the afternoon when she cleaned the room. 2) A day later a bulb in the bathroom burnt out and I went to office. Same thing. The lady told me she's have her husband come within 10 minutes. He never did. This time I put the burnt out bulb on the bathroom sink with a note for the maid. She replaced it later that day. 3) Based on my experiences with the light bulbs after seeing there were no spare rolls of toilet paper, I wisely went to the office and requested another roll before I ran out. The maid brought it the next day. 4) I couldn't ever call the office because as some other reviewer pointed out, the phones are dead in the room. When I asked the manager about it, he made up some far-fetched story about how because so many people use cell phones nowadays, the phone company no longer repairs their equipment. Are you kidding me? He continued the lie by telling me he tried to hire someone to fix it and the two contractors he called never showed up. I was in town visiting my sister and she said whenever she's had a problem with her phone the phone company immediately sends someone out to fix it. I don't like being lied to. 5) Although he put up a string barrier when the manager painted the walk leading to the office, he failed to put up any kind of barrier or even a "wet paint" sign when he painted the narrow walk by the rooms. Because the parking lot is so narrow I tried to park as close to the building as I could and didn't realize I drove my car onto part of the freshly painted walk. The wife knocked on door and informed me and I apologized and suggested next time they either put up a barrier or some signs. That's what they did when he painted another section further down. To me, that's a no brainer. You have people coming and going, you're lot is very narrow, so it only makes sense to put up signs or barriers, not wait until someone drives over it to inform them it was just painted. 6) Because they are so cheap they didn't have a bath mat or even no slip strips on the tub in the bathroom. On my 3rd night I was drying myself off and slipped, fell, and hit my head on the wall of the tub. Later I informed the husband and he acted all surprised that my shower lacked a mat or strips. Had that been me and a guest told me they just slipped and hit their head in the shower, I would have run right over to Walgreen's across the street and spent $8 for a bath mat. One day someone will really hurt themselves and he'll be sued. I was lucky, I just had a small bump on the back of my head. 7) The shower curtain was missing 3 rings. That's another $5 to $8 item that would help make the room look less of a low rent dump. 8) Some of the towels had holes in them. 9) The wooden shutters on the windows let in light and there was a bright light that shined in my room and straight in my eyes every night. I went to Walgreen's and bought a sleep mask. 10) The parking lot was so narrow that you couldn't turn your car around and had to be very careful backing out or you'd hit one of the cars parked on each side. 11) Earlier in my stay the Wi-Fi was very fast. It got sluggish towards the end of the week, probably when more people were using it. For these reasons I cannot recommend the Wittle Motel even at it's relatively cheap price, and by cheap I mean $100 a night. read more

We enjoyed our stay at Wittle Inn. The room was spacious and comfortable. Everything was clean and well supplied. We found the location to be very quiet aside from the occasional emergency vehicle going down El Camino Real. Check in was quick and simple and the owner was very friendly and responsive. My favorite aspect is the location. This is a perfect spot to stay in Sunnyvale as it is so centrally located and you can be downtown or on any of the major roads in just a couple minutes. Lots of great restaurants deliver to the location and a brand new (and delicious!) Dim Sum place called Dumpling Depot just opened up across the street. The only drawbacks for us was most of the parking is on the street (albeit a clean and safe street). The toilet also seemed to have a slow leak and it would run from time to time. All in all we will stay here again without hesitation if we find ourselves in Sunnyvale again. read more

I've stayed here every week for over a year commuting in from southern CA. I've tried other places ( when I didn't book in advance and couldn't get a room), more expensive and always default back to this place. Others charge more and were not as nice. Super clean rooms, new comfortable beds, flat screen, USB and plugs for charging by each bed, all room amenities needed, even extra tooth brushes (wrapped new of course) toothpaste etc.. Super Friendly owners. Great rates for the area, great food in all directions walking distance to all including target or downtown sunnyvale. Don't waste your time looking elsewhere. read more

If I could give negative I would. Pictures on Expedia looked nice and quaint. Arrived to find no sign of office, walked up a walkway to what I thought was office, door lockedconfused so called the number. Lady answered was rude and said we always have door locked and do I have reservations, I said yes and she told me I couldn't check in till 3, it was about 1. Confused again 1 car in parking lot. Homeless across street or at least some shady characters. Pulled up a Yelp on Whittle Inn and holly crap-bad reviews, bed bugs, cockroaches. So immediately found another place and called Expedia to get a refund. I was able to get full refund no penalty. My bad for not checking Yelp in the first place. read more

While the hotel seemed very clean, in the morning there was a roach on one of the beds . When the Management was notified, they said the Roach came in from the Garden, and could my husband pick it up and put it outside....what? You mean as the owner you are going to let your guest do this AND you didn't even mention a partial if not all of a REFUND? ?? WILL NOT be staying here again! read more

Cozy and affordable inn located in a quiet residential area only 5-10 minutes away from major freeways. There were 3 of us that visited NorCal (San Jose, SF area) for a 4-day vacation from LA. Room pricing was very easy on my wallet, the owner was gratefully accommodating (about 2 weeks before the trip I had asked if it was possible to change our room from a 2-person to a 3-person room, and he happily obliged), the rooms were spacious and clean, and best of all, it felt like a tiny slice of home. Stay away from this place, it has bed bugs. When I was fixing the bed I saw a bed bug crawling out the pillow case. I informed the owner about the problem but he didnt do anything to solve the issue all he said was "okay". He didn't care at all even after I told him that me and my guest had to slept on the bathroom floor to avoid the bed bugs. This isnt a regular hotel where there is a 24 hour front desk, the owners live in a house next to the motel so you can't really bother them at three in the morning because they won't answer. That was our case, we had just come home from a concert so it was pretty late when we found the bed bug, there was no way to reach them at such a late hour so we were forced to sleep on the bathroom floor! read more

Where to begin... So I was transitioning to the Bay area for work and had to foot the bill myself. I ignored the previous review complaining about the people at the desk. I stopped in and spoke with Arvind (the owner) about the place and the rate was probably the cheapest in the area. It was on par with the Motel6...I'll leave it at that. After seeing the location of Motel6 and others and the stench of those places I passed. I am glad I did. It looked a little old from the outside but it was non-smoking so I decided to give it a shot. Once I entered the place I was pleasantly surprised. There was a 32" flat screen TV with free HBO, a DVD player (rare in hotels), a fridge and small microwave. The desk and night stands were in decent shape. There was even a couch and a coffee table. They did have an ironing board but no iron. When I walked into the bathroom I knew I had made a good choice. It looked pretty new. A huge shower, granite sink, and tile floor. There was shampoo, soap, lotion, and a shower cap. Amenities enough for me, considering I had brought all of that. The shower really was pretty nice. The carpet was a little old as was some of the furniture. The bed was clean and comfortable. During my 5 day stay I spoke with the owners Arvind and his wife. They were very nice and pleasant. They had a friendly dog as well that I enjoyed. He also recommended some good places to eat in the area. The overall experience made me feel like I was visiting distant relatives as opposed to a small motel in Sunnyvale. Bottom Line: if you need to stay in the area for a short term this place beats the cheap dirty motels and is competitive with the Courtyards and the TownPlace Suites of the Bay area...at 1/3 of the price. Of course, it's a little older and doesn't have some of the amenities of the bigger chains. If not having a pool and having to request an iron are my only complaints I'll take it. I never write reviews but this place was justified. If I needed a good, cheap place to stay again I would go here in a heartbeat. read more

Great little motel, very affordable for the area. It isn't a new fancy hotel but it has very fast FREE WiFi, flat panel tv with hdmi plug in for my Apple TV! Not many amenities, but again, this is motel for the budget minded, if you want a bunch of amenities, then go right down the street to best western or the grand hotel and pay $150 to $300. The staff is very friendly, the rooms are very clean. The location is excellent, many great bars and restaurants with in walking distance. I will be coming back. read more

Love this little paradise. Tucked in the middle of a residential area it really is a wonderful place. Only 10 rooms you can park right at your door. Super quiet we never heard a car or another person. Shopping center and restaurants in walking distance. Updated hotel with all the perks of a large chain just without the noise and crowds. Equipped with microwave, coffee pot and small fridge. Ironing board and iron included. King bed I really firm but that's my only complaint. I just prefer a softer bed. read more

We have stayed here every year for the last 4 years around May/June while we attended a spiritual gathering nearby. We have never had a problem and the staff has always been pleasant. It is family owned and they live in their home behind the office front. Everything was clean and in working order. We never saw bed bugs or cockroaches or any bugs anywhere, nor did we find them in our luggage when we got home. So if there was a bed bug problem, they have dealt with it. It is unfortunate for any hotel/motel that people with bed bugs have brought the bugs with them. read more

I stayed at the Wittle Inn a number of years ago and then again just recently. I had a very good experience on both occasions, so I would definitely stay there again. This is a charming, family-run inn where the owners and staff do a very nice job of creating a friendly, relaxing atmosphere. Both times that I stayed there, I found it to be very clean and well maintained, and I slept very well, thanks to their comfortable beds and quiet surroundings. Room was spacious and comfortable, especially for the price. Felt the service was good, and solid amenities (free wifi, TV, bottled water, coffee). I made a reservation on Priceline for a one night stay at this hotel not by choice but because of the Sharks game all of the hotels were booked or charging way too much money. But I needed a room for work. I went to the hotel a little early so I could check in and change for a meeting but when I walked in to the door I was immediately greeted with "what do you need" not even HI, how are you, or, WELCOME, as soon as I told him I had a reservation and gave him my name he said your card didn't work and we don't have rooms until 3 or 3:30. I said, Priceline must have used the old card. I have the right card let's just fix it. He said, the payment held your room. I said so you gave my room away? He said no but no rooms til 3. I said ok let me fix the payment and I'll have my room. He said your room was cancelled. We did this way too long. I couldn't figure why he didn't want me to have the room. So I said forget it I'll go some where else and he said, good idea. He's Indian, I'm a blonde, blue eyed white woman. I'm not sure if that played a part. I didn't get it. As I left I saw a maid and asked her if a room was ready and she said yes and told me the numbers. As I turned to go confront him a woman came out and said can I help you and I told her he said no rooms were ready and she said 2 rooms were ready? She said you can't talk to the maids and I said yes I can. She insisted I can't and I said I can talk to anyone I want. Are you the owners she said no, I said then don't tell me who I can and can't talk too. Then the guy came out ( her husband) he said you can't talk to her!! I said yes I can and you lied!!! He said get off my property I said are you the owner he said yes and I said you lied again your wife said your not!!! He said leave.. I said for what? Talking to the maid? And I walked off . Then he yelled at me for the direction I was walking. I said my car is parked over there. He replied UP YOURS LADY!!!!! Omg!!! I couldn't believe all this. A nice place with large clean rooms that have a big bed, big bathroom, and small sofa. But I am giving it only 2 stars because the telephone did not work and I had read another review and that guest had told the manager/owner...but the phone was not repaired during their stay. So I was amazed that after a guest telling them AND posting here, on Yelp, that the repair(s) were not made. When I was checking out I told one of the owners about the phone and she acted as if it the [phone] issue had just occurred. To me, this is terrible customer service. read more
