Cupcakesters is this sweet little spot tucked away in SanTan Village near Harkins Theatre. Their first location is in Mesa and this new one just popped up in the last year. It occupies the space formerly inhabited by another dessert shop. If you're not actively on the lookout, you might miss it. I stumbled upon it while grabbing a snack at the pretzel store next door. I have a huge sweet tooth and couldn't resist. I was immediately greeted by the kind gentleman behind the counter. I later found out he is the husband of the owner and baker. They have a great selection of cupcakes; Ding Dong, cookies & cream, peanut butter, lemon, and more. The cupcakes start at $4 and are huge! Since I had just bought a snack next door, I decided to limit myself to one cupcake. It was tough to choose, but I was intrigued by the Ding Dong cupcake. I wanted to see if it tasted just like one. I took it home and shared it with my teenager. The cupcake was moist and delicious! It tasted like a Ding Dong and even had the cream filling. I kinda regretted not sampling more flavors, but now that I know where they're located, I will certainly be back to try another cupcake! read more

Went here at night on a weekday and service was fast (no one else in line). The shop itself is small so probably not a place to stay and eat in there, more of a grab and walk around treat or take back home. The guy was kind and answered my questions. Cupcakes are a big size and tasted great, good for a special treat because it's a little on the pricey side for a cupcake (I think I paid $12 for 2 cupcakes). New location in San Tan village across from Slimeatory near the Harkins Theater side. Pretty smart to have a spot across from where a bunch of kids will see it like mine did. We walked out of slimeatory and my kids saw the word cupcake and ran. Lols We went around noon on a Saturday. The gentleman working there is the hubs of the owner/baker who has a storefront in Mesa. The place is clean and no seating except for one chair. But no big deal, easy to take the cupcakes to go and eat it outside. There is a good variety of cupcakes that looked fresh. I also saw some cookies, cookie sandwiches and gluten/vegan free cupcakes. The nice thing is the gluten/vegan free cupcakes are the same price as the regular cupcakes. Which is rare bc they usually are more expensive. Cupcakes ranged from $3-$4. You can also order custom made cakes and cookies.... We ate the strawberry, cookies and cream and caramel cupcakes. Sooo good. The cupcake was light and fluffy, great flavor and not too sweet. I don't like super sweet dense cupcakes. I don't care for frosting in general so I didn't eat too much of it but I liked that it wasn't too sweet. Kids ate it all up. I just realized that was like their lunch. Mom of the year here. Let's dive in..... -As soon as I got here I was met by the kindest staff member, he was quick to help us and let us know what these cupcakes are filled with, topped with, taste like etc.! He was chill, definitely giving this place a homey vibe, and definitely makes you want to revisit! - The interior felt like you were walking into a clean vibrant kitchen with bright lighting and colors that bring a futuristic feel. - Now the cupcakes! We got Red Velvet, Peanut Butter Chocolate, Lemon, and Chocolate........ These were by far the best I've tried in the East valley and definitely the best in Gilbert... which is crazy for a mall. Usually I find mall places aren't great, but this place definitely deserves its own separate store. I found my favor to be the lemon, but each cupcake truly shows the baker knows how to create a fluffy and flavorful cake. The frostings are also thick, and not overpowering, but complimenting to the cakes, many were also filled with a sweet or tangy filling, which just upped the flavors and textures to the next level. I would have one recommendation, but that is all, the red velvet frosting could afford to be more cream cheese tasting to cut that sweetness. But everything else was spot on, I am crazy to try more! -Seeing that the mastermind behind these cupcakes knows their stuff id love to see more unique flavors in the future!!! read more

The smell of sweet cupcakes hit my face when we walked into the store. It was really clean and there was a nice calms and chill vibe to the place and the guy in there was nice and friendly. It was empty when we walked in but that was because we got there pretty late but it was nice because it wasn't packed and we had the place to ourselves so that was nice too. Anyway the cupcakes where pretty good the red velvet was my personal favorite but the frosting was just to sweet but it still was ok. In my opinion the frosting on all the cupcakes could be a little less sweet overall they where good I would go there again but it wasn't the number one place but still would visit occasionally. Went in on a whim and was offered their cinnamon coffee cake as a sample. It was amazing! Moist and firm with a great cinnamon sugar crust. That convinced us to take advantage of their buy 5 get one free deal for ~$20. The man behind the counter was very nice and told us all about the business and the flavors. We got the pumpkin spice, carrot cake, cookies and cream, smores, wedding cake, and lemon. We were told that the wedding cake and lemon had a filling, raspberry and lemon curd respectively. No one does real curd so I was very excited to get into these. Upon biting into them, they were not as advertised. The fillings were gel, not curd. Now, that might be fine for some, but I loathe gel in baked goods. It ruins cakes, donuts, and cupcakes. The cakes themselves were unremarkable, not at all like the cinnamon cake and the frosting had nothing to recommend it. The flavors weren't distinct enough to really tell anything apart. I don't like leaving a mediocre review for a local place which obviously tries really hard, but don't sell folks on curd when it's just gel. read more

What an amazing business! We went to visit Cupcakesters for the first time and went right at closing time! The owner, Jerry so kindly opened up and rolled the cupcakes back out. He put them all back on display and gave us the whole run down of each one. He was so kind, funny and nice. It was like an experience while picking our cupcakes. The cupcakes were delicious! We are so pleased with the many flavors they had and how fresh they tasted. They also have GLUTEN free and DON'T charge extra for them! Score. The store was decorate so nice and the displays were so fun to look at! I can't wait to order a custom cake because they looked so pretty! I would highly recommend this place to everyone. Cupcakes had a nice texture, not dry or spongey (like grocery store cakes). We got root beer (w/whipped frosting), funfetti, lemon cream cheese, chocolate salted caramel, and turtle. Only the root beer was filled (w/whipped frosting) and at $4 each, I hoped they all would have been filled. I think of fillings like custard, lemon curd, caramel and fruit filling when I think of "specialty" cupcakes. The gentleman helping us was friendly and patient (went with kids). I agree with other reviews suggesting to wear food service gloves when handling the cupcakes. Would've rated four stars if it weren't for the lack of filling and gloves. The store was clean and smelled VERY sweet as we entered, a little too sweet for me and I love sweet things! I'd go back, but really do hope they implement wearing gloves. This is my first review, ever! And I chose to review hoping the owners will read this and implement wearing gloves. The cupcakes are good and I wish the best for them. Went on a date with my husband last at the San Tan Mall and we saw this place and wanted to try it for dessert. The owner was super nice. They have a deal going on buy 5 cupcakes get the 6th one free so we did that. Every cupcake we have tried so far has been better than the last one. So far we have tried the fun fetti, carrot cake and the Neapolitan. They all have been amazing can't wait to dig into the Oreo one. Shop was super clean and looked very nice. They also do wedding cakes and birthday cakes. Will be ordering from them in the future. You can tell a lot love goes into what they make. 10/10 read more

phenomenal cupcakes. i saw pictures of them after yelp had recommended i try this place and i haddddd to go get them. i had 30 minutes to get there before close, had less than a quarter tank of gas and got a nail in my tire on the way there, but i was determined i promise my husband cupcakes and i knew safeway cupcakes wouldn't suffice. i walked up to the door like 10 minutes before close (i know, i'm the worst) and got half a dozen. they were all soooo good and so moist. the one that really got me was the chocolate peanut butter. the PB flavor is usually so overpowering, but this was nice and light and just enough flavor. the owner is also a sweetheart. we will definitely be back! read more
